Pokemon cards were like the biggest thing ever for a few years in primary school. Although nobody ever actually played the game... Must've been in Year 5, 1999-2000; got back from a school trip to find my folks had bought me a couple of booster packs as a present. And inside one, a Charizard. Ho-ly shit.
I was eventually persuaded to trade it, for 7 shinies. Bungie would have been proud. Including a Venomoth, I remember.
Also, the whole craze got so out of hand, I remember my buddy Emile got his Gyarados stolen, or he was forced to trade it for something really shit, and he complained to a teacher about it. A few days later, the cards were banned. :(
