No bloom or with bloom the Needle Rifle is just better. The fire rate is faster and the there is more bullet magnetism. Now if we are talking about full bloom Reach, the gun is easier to control with bloom and can fire faster than the DMR with less bloom.
tl;dr: NR>DMR

7 Repliesthe better question is why would anyone in their right mind play a game like garbage reach. Halo 3 is much better.

Edited by cB557: 5/19/2013 1:01:10 AMEhhhh, with full bloom the nerfle is a mess. With the TU though it definitely is better, save for the DMR's superior range. I'd say for some it's stylistic preference, for some it's availability, for some it's the range, and for some they're just unaware of the advantage. I'd want to test how many frames it takes to kill though, because I don't actually know that the nerfle is better than the DMR.

I like the DMR better because I gets used more so im used to everything that is DMR, although the fire rate is a nice advantge to keep players out of their scope in long range firefights
-
Amen i think its reload is cooler too.

3 RepliesNobody uses either weapon because nobody plays Reach anymore. /kidding

I prefer to use the plasma rifle... Wait a second WTF happened to it!?!?

If you can land the first 2-3 shots with a needle rifle on somebody without them hitting you back (say, they weren't looking at you or something), you'll pretty much win every time. In a 1v1 between the two, DMR will always come out on top. Pre and Post title updates.

PP + Needle Rifle = Fall of Reach's Covenant

because the DMR is Human made, it's always my personal preference to use Human weapons over Alien

My experience comes pre-CEA TU; that is, playing Reach as released before 343i got their grubby mitts all over it. The fire rate is faster, yes, but to balance that against the DMR, the damage of the individual projectiles is lower. In games I played where it was DMR-vs-Nerfle, the DMR always came out on top. The only reason Nerfle was prevalent in those games was it came with two stickies for the noobs. Elites were constantly stealing UNSC gear (DMR, Shotgun, Magnum, Sniper, Scorpions, etc) in Invasion and Invasion Slayer. The supercombine only happens with three projectiles in an unshielded body. If you're taking time to plug three crystals into your unshielded foe to damage his teammates next to him when you can off him with one to the head, you're risking more damage from your target, meaning you may not survive that encounter or the seconds thereafter; you may not even score the supercombine and lose the opportunity of getting the kill that you had. Basically, if you're going for supercombine in standard MP, you're playing the game wrong. Now the Nerfle's unique headshot/supercombine properties is by comparison so ridiculously overpowered in Firefight against Brutes, Jackals, and Skirmishers (and obviously Grunts as well, even perhaps Elites and Hunters too) that you'd be ludicrously insane to elect the DMR over the Nerfle in standard Firefight.

2 RepliesI always liked the needle rifle. People always hated playing Elite Slayer but I liked it for the default NR loadouts.
-
3 RepliesI try to have both on me.

1 ReplyI agree that it is a better weapon and feels smoother and more fun to use, but the DMR does more damage to vehicles whereas the Needle Rifle's needles just bounce off vehicles instead of damaging them.

2 RepliesPlus the bonus of the supercombine.
