Blue ray: $40
Keyboard:$40
Mouse:$10
Normally I side with PCs, but I don't like the fact that you also left out these things. You should also take note that you will need some sort of PC anyway, so why not get a gaming PC instead of a PC+ a console.

And if the person didn't already have a good PC, now they'd be able to do a bunch of other stuff that they couldn't do before.

You can get the OS for free, Blueray is completely optional (Xbox isn't going to have blueray, anyway). And I suppose he assumed you already had a mouse and keyboard, considering you probably have a computer already...
