You see, even as an atheist, I say this is wrong. People should be able to choose freely in what they do or do not believe in. I see this as no different than the assholes in the American South that want to set Christianity as the state religion.

Except this would clearly be bennificial for humanity. A nation that makes decisions based on logic and reasoning will be more productive and advanced than one who can hide behind religion.

Your post is assuming that people don't make illogical choices without religion. Your post also assumes that just because someone is religious they will make illogical choices. Both assumptions are wrong.

The reason that the French Revolution was chaotic was because the Jacobeans were a bunch of crazy nut-job radicals who hated the government, and were inspired by the success of the American Revolution, not because they were loyal to reason and knowledge.

Perhaps, although it is, at best, difficult to know all of the reasons and intricacies of how history played out, even for those who were there.
