Make sure you grab a copy and let us digital folk know what's inside, will ya?
ProTip: posting scans of copyrighted material (like from a magazine) is a one-way ticket to a ban.

  • "Let us know" = "Post a scan"? Its almost as if you WANT to ban someone.

  • Seriously, who wouldn't want to wield the awesome power of the banhammer as frequently as possible?

I thought that's why we have the mute button, and that there's pretty much no rules. Unless I'm mistaken.

  • You are somewhat mistaken. We still have rules. The members are here (for the most part) to interpret them as they personally choose to draw the line. When it comes to copyright infringement? I don't need to (and won't) wait for something the hit the report queue if it is staring me in the face. There are still some "ban on sight" offenses. Not many, but violation of IP law? That's one.

  • I see, that makes sense.

  •
ProTip: posting scans of copyrighted material (like from a magazine) is a one-way ticket to a ban.
I didn't really want scans. Frankly I could care less about the art; I was looking more for any juicy tidbits of info we may not have gotten elsewhere. However, I've been hearing there isn't anything new. And if people are going to get in trouble sharing "exclusive" information, I'd rather the thread get locked and just serve as a "go check it out!" post. I'll edit the OP accordingly.

I'll edit the OP accordingly.
No harm, no foul. Your wording (that I quoted) was vague enough that I didn't assume that you were asking for scans, but I realize that it also could be seen by someone as a request for a scan and a post. I wanted to warn those folks, not chastise you. No need to change your OP (unless you simply want to clarify what you meant). Personally, I like leaving conversations as they occurred so that people can better understand how the topic flowed and how information was shared. And locks? Those are a thing of the past. If a ninja "locks" something now, it means the post/content is removed (not hidden for the duration of a ban) and the poster is banned. You didn't say/do anything worthy of a ban, and actually gave me a chance to highlight a serious and important consideration for all members to remember when using these forums.

  • Why?

  • Because printed publications are copyrighted. Scanning and sharing that content on the Internet is a violation of that copyright and breaks any member's membership agreement for this site.

  • Has Bungie been threatened with legal action before because that seems like the biggest rule enforced out of all the flaming and trolling.

  • I don't and wouldn't know. I believe that it is a serious rule because our hosts are content creators themselves and are very aware and sensitive to the proper need for enforcement of IP laws and rules. Just like it is not only stupid to post about or encourage digital piracy on this site, it's just plain rude to our hosts. They make a living out of creating things out of 1's and 0's, it would simply be insanely rude to then use this site (that they provide to us as a courtesy, for free and out of love for their fans) to then turn around and promote the illegal distribution of anyone's digital creation/IP/content. Take a look at the 6 reasons for reporting (other than "meh") 4 of the 6 involve criminal acts and the other two are "personal offense" violations. I would say that our hosts when they say "Play Nice" are emphasizing "play legally" more strongly than "don't hurt other people's feelings".
