Extreme bans for first time offenses

I had a friend queue in an lfg for crucible a while back, turns out one of who he queued with was hacking. My friend wrongfully stayed in for a few games with that lfg crew before leaving. I agree in the sense of a punishment for staying a few games with a cheater, but he is currently banned indefinitely, recieving the same ban as the cheater (hopefully the cheater was actually banned). It's been months and he's still banned, ticket closed and appeal denied. Not denying wrong doing, just stunned by the aggression of bans. Note, this is his first offense in any regard. Not a single restriction or ban in the past. I get punishment for his actions but doesn't this feel a bit extreme?

  • Bungie doesn't actually know which player is cheating and so its taking a shotgun approach to it.

  • Bungie's policy is that if you knowingly stay in a group where someone is cheating, you are subject to being banned. Which is how it should be. You're 'friend" was helping to ruin the game for others, and was benefitting from someone else's cheating If you drive the getaway car, you are still part of the bank robbery. You can't claim innocence just because you didn't walk into the bank with a gun. You're friend learned a hard life lesson....but a fair one. Hopefully he accepts that lesson and moves on, rather than trying to find someone else to blame for the consequences of what he did.

    • Willingly sticking around with a cheater is really only a step or two short from sort of cheating yourself in a sense. You’re not personally cheating but you’re happily reaping the benefits knowingly. So yeah, the ban is deserved.

      • Advice for you....sorry, your "friend"..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 An offense is an offense, 1st time or the 50th time. Serve your ban, sorry again, your "friend" needs to serve his ban and learn from it.

        • Your “friend” should have checked stats, should have left right away after noticing hacks and should have instantly filed a player report form providing all info. None of that was done so the ban was extended fireteam wide.

          • To be ban alongside someone that cheat you need to be in a fireteam with the cheater on multiple occasion....not randomly queuing

            • Good news! Glad another hacker or someone that benefited gets banned.

            • Guilty by association. Whether people are actually hacking, or not, if I feel like someone on my team is suspicious and things don’t seem right, I’m leaving. Not taking that risk of getting a ban like this.

            • Hes guilty by association. If he knew the guy was cheating and stayed (and lets be honest, its not hard whatsoever to tell if someone is) and continued to play with him that means he accepted the risks of playing with a cheater. Playing with them period is an offense and obviously leaving at first glance would "hopefully" avoid getting banned. He stayed with the cheater and there for is just as accountable as the cheater.

              • Not really. If he knew and did nothing he is an extension of the issue. Also they don’t do hardware bans unfortunately so there’s nothing stopping him from making a new account.

              • No, it is how it should be. They knowingly stayed in the match so pay the price. If it was up to me the ban would be a hardware ban.
