Because it wouldn't bring back actual choice, it would just let people use the same piece of gear over and over again just by changing the element.
"Oh, it's solar burn in strikes today? I guess I'll make my current load out solar so I don't have to engage with any other weapons"
And yes, people would absolutely that. They did it before, that's why they removed it to begin with.

Edited by JANOVA617: 6/3/2021 8:02:35 AM.....is that not what people already do? I cycle through the same 3 weapons to clear harder content depending on the element. If I want to use an arc gridskipper because it's my favorite energy weapon, you're telling me thats a bad thing? Are you seriously saying it's bad that players have favored or preferred weapons? Lol you know how dumb that sounds right? I want to use a solar Royal Chase but bungie says " NO! You cant use the weapon you want to use because it's not enough variety!! Royal Chase is a only a void weapon so we are forcing you to switch!! Enjoy your variety! 👍👍👍" Like dude, variety isnt about you changing your weapons for every damn activity, variety means having the OPTION to change your weapons for every activity. That way at the end of the day, it's still your choice. But seriously, if I grinded my ass off for a Royal Chase scout rifle and have 1 for each element, is that really hurting anybody? Who are YOU to set the standard for MY variety? Its ridiculous and suffocating to build potential. Your logic is already being applied through the relic mod system, stiff arming people into a predetermined system of "variety" is not good.

You’re not in “harder” content. Legend NFs barely even require you to be much above brain dead to complete.

Edited by JANOVA617: 6/5/2021 2:41:19 PM1. I just now got this account ready for Master Nf, I've been using an account on ps4 but the only character on that account that's been leveled up is the warlock. This account is actually my first one which is why I've been giving it more attention, I plan on buying the new xbox soon. But I have completed the higher level content in this game before. 2. I dont know how that's even relevant to myself and the other guys conversation or the OP. 3. I wasn't blaming anyone for using the same 3 weapons, I was simply stating that the issue the other party had about using the same weapons is already here. We use the same guns unless something stronger comes along or the relic mod dictates otherwise. He thinks that being able to have a Threaded Needle in multiple energy types is somehow going too upset that system lol. People are going to use the meta regardless.

People are going to use the meta regardless.
That’s what YOU are doing. YOU are using the meta regardless, or using the same guns unless something stronger comes along or the artifact dictates otherwise (which is the intent - you know - not using the same guns in endgame content). People just watching streamers to find out what’s good, and then running that, are just sheep waiting to be told what to do. Try experimenting with weapons when you get them. It’s really not hard, nor is it really that bad. Changing element type trivializes match game and the requirement to have any synergistic team aspects. Should probably be more shields in the NFs anyway; it’s a joke when there isn’t. YOU may not see how it would hurt, but you’re a single person who seemingly just wants the game easier, as if it isn’t already. Also, cross-save exists?
-
Omg here we go lol. I have already experimented with different types of weapons, that's how I figured out what I like and dont like. I main a wave frame grenade launcher, I almost never take it off regardless of the burn for that particular activity. I usually run void, solar, and arc damage to deal with any sheilds I come across so sheilds are irrelevant to me. (Though I have been running a new build with felwinters helm that's all void.) I hardly use meta weapons at all lol the closest thing I ran to meta is deathbringer. I dont even own anarchy lol. And as for that sheild argument lmao dude match game makes running only one type of element a great hindrance to you. You're still better off mixing up your damage types so having the ability to have a deafening whisper with arc or solar energy isnt going to change that interaction because you or you're teamates are probably going to need void somewhere in your builds. Synergy and builds will still be important so why are you acting like it will suddenly make everything easy as hell?
-
You happen to only like, what, like 5 weapons? Sooooo versatile! Your playstyle shows; you've done barely anything in content that actually requires you to have that synergy you are talking about. Are you seriously min/maxing base strikes? Oof. Who said anything about running one type of element in match game activities? That's why you synergize everything with a team. Supers, match game, champs, CWL/Warmind/Well builds, everything. Even if it turned out that I ran only one element in my weapons, I know that the team can cover the other 2. There are only 3 types of shields right now. You don't need the same weapon with multiple energy types; you need to branch and use different weapons. Your inability to adapt is what makes you a hindrance to any team. I deal on a constant basis with someone who absolutely refuses to change anything about their ONE loadout, and we often end up carrying them through the content because they can't adapt.
-
Wtf are you talking about? My playstyle shows? My guy last time I checked you've never ran a strike with me a day in your life. And as I said before, this is an account that I am JUST NOW getting together, I havent done any GM nf on this one, only a handful of masters. I never used the cross save for the ps4 because 1 the ps4 wasn't even mine, and 2 I wanst expecting to do as much as I did on it. What I'm trying to say is that having the option to use the same weapon type but different roles/element is not going to hurt weapon or build diversity. It will expand it. Alll the synergy and team builds will still be there. If I tell someone who like a specific sniper rifle that they need to branch out and try something they dont like i cant get mad at them for telling me no. If they are still contributing to the team and we are still getting stuff done then what is the issue? If they can grinded for their preferred weapon in all elements then so what? If it's not at the detriment of the team, what's so bad about th e having more options?

We had that system and D1 and people used all sorts of weapons. Just because I can use what I like doesnt mean I'll stop trying new things. You cant find new favorites by only playing with your old ones.

It’s not a great system as a whole, even if some players “will still experiment”. This system gives them a nudge toward that experimentation, which is good.
-
If some people do that than that's okay 😅. It's their choice to make, not ours. There is nothing wrong with individuality my guy lol. But even still, the weapon element type wont effect the relic mod system. The mods make the weapons stronger not vice versa. Right now I'm using the Pleiades scout rifle on my hunter, it only drops as solar. How is that weapon dropping in arc and void as well going to limit weapon variety? I'm still going to use it top pop barrier champions and a specific type of shields. It will just free up an elemental option for my heavy or my subclass. If it's an overload or unstoppable activity, I'll still have to change my build and possibly my weapons. There is 0 correalition in having weapons drop in all energy types and them being the only weapon used. If that was the case hardlight and Borealis would be a top picks because you can change their energy type at the press of a button, yet you hardly ever see them.

Lol I do see beyond myself, you are just struggling to see beyond your current limitations. But whatev 😊

Edited by AbsolutZeroGI: 6/3/2021 8:29:52 AMIn a game that is about collecting weapons, yes, it is bad if people only have to use the same kinetic, energy, and heavy weapon for every activity no matter what. Using excess punctuation and bold text doesn't make it a less terrible idea.

This is a game about story. STORY DRIVEN FPS, loot helps us beat the enemy IT IS NOT THE POINY OF THE GAME. THE POINT OF DESTINY is NOT to chase Loot, it's to finish the Story and Move onto another Game. Which is why Bungie doesn't want to Finish Destiny until they Release Matter. They are afraid after a DECADE of players waiting on the Story to be Finished, that we will be disappointed and Move on. So they want to Transform the Game from a Story Driven MMO-RPG (Destiny 1,) into a Loot Driven Competitive FPS (Luke Smith Destiny 2 to be the next overwatch.) -&- What other game company can peice meal the story for a decade? (Cutting the story up purposely behind years of EXTRA DLC'S?) What other game company can successfully punish the player base for being to strong and making content to hard to make? (Sunsetting,) Bungie isn't an Indie Studio and not are they making a Loot Based Game. This is a STORY DRIVEN FPS MMO-RPG Bungie is hopping to keep extending by giving u less loot choices.

Edited by l Xemnas: 6/3/2021 2:39:50 PMIf that were the case, they would make all weapon archetypes solid choices. Instead certain archetypes are unused and irrelevant.
-
No archetypes are irrelevant, people just all equip what the streamers tell them to and then walk around saying everything sucks. Some weapons are better than other for certain activities, but you can equip basically any weapon for 60% of the game and be fine.
-
Lol that takes even more away from your argument.
-
Exactly lol
-
..........you're wrong though. The game isnt about collecting weapons, it's about collecting weapons that you (the player) want and want to use. If I see a new weapon that I'm not interested in, why should I be forced to use it? You are acting like giving random rolled elements is going to suddenly make every single weapon meta lol. The current meta is mainly set by weapon perks, not by the gun itself. The only outlier is Anarchy, which is meta because of the system that you're defending(and becauseits just good for every occasion. It's one of the only arc heavy weapons that is actually good. If Code Duello could drop as an arc weapon we would see more than anarchy in almost every activity. And I don't know why you keep reiterating the "it's bad if players can use the same thing" argument. We are already doing that man. It's called playing the meta and it isnt going anywhere. You are literally trying to forewarn about a system that's already in place lol.
-
Edited by AbsolutZeroGI: 6/3/2021 8:52:11 PMCollecting weapons is a very, very large portion of the endgame replayability. The whole game only takes a few dozen hours to beat. People who have been in this game for 1000+ hours didn't do so playing story line. They did it by repeating endgame content and grinding for endgame loot. It is fair and accurate to say a very significant percentage of endgame is grinding for loot to some extent, even if it's just ascendent shards to upgrade armor. Code Duello as an arc will not supplant anarchy, especially with breach and clear existing. I understand what you're trying to say, but that's not a great example. The issue comes when you do something like pick up a "kill stuff with bows" bounty and then also a "kill stuff with solar weapons" bounty. There exists a bow that can do both. If everybody could get a solar version of the void bow, then nobody would ever need to run last wish for the solar bow. I know ticuu exists already, but that's besides the point. The idea that a person just grind for a world drop bow in all 3/4 elements (as it currently is the arc bow) eliminates the need to do the activities that grant you the void bow and solar bow (I believe last season's seasonal activity and last wish are where you get them), and thus eliminates the need for either of those bows to actually exist since they're all the same architype. That is just one example. I could come up with a lot more. Anywhere in the game where elemental damage matters (GM, strike Playlist, raids with shielded enemies, bounties, quests, hell event gambit has elemental damage stuff). This is what happened in Y1. I was there. Heck, I abused the system. I have what has to be one of the remaining void Sins of the Past to exist in the whole game (it drops solar now permanently), but when the new system came out and I couldn't just roll my Uriel's Gift in every activity, it forced me to branch out. Even now, I carry a shadow price adept for arc, thr GoS auto for void, and summoner for solar. 3 different guns vs 1 in a system very similar to what OP is suggesting. 300% increase in variety.
-
Hmmm but why do you want to be forced to "branch out" as you say? If you like using an auto rifle, who am I to tell you that you need more variety?? If autorifles work for you then so be it. Why are you acting like that Uriels Gift will be the last auto rifle you ever touch in D2? In D1 I loved fusion rifles, they were my favorite archetype. My favorite fusion rifle was The Vortex from fwc, I had multiple rolls in multiple elements and I used that gun in every activity. But that didnt stop me from grinding all energy types for The Vacancy, Long Far Gone, Midhas Reckoning, Darkblade's Spite, Susanoo, I could keep going lmaoo. My vault was FULL of fusion rifles that were viable in every part of the game, but I never stopped looking for better stuff or stopped using other weapons. I used sidearms, shotguns, scouts, etc. Me loving The Vortex and having the option to use it in all types of content didnt make me stop choosing to use other weapons. It just gave me the option to use what I enjoyed. And as for the bounty problem, maybe they shouldnt be so bland and generic? They can easily be changed if you are so worried about daily bounties becoming easier than they already are lol.
-
Hmmm but why do you want to be forced to "branch out" as you say?
Why would someone pay $60+DLC+$10/seasonover a few years to play be forced into a single game mode to grind the same 1 weapon (out of several hundred) 3 times just to avoid using the rest of the game's loot?
-
Because it's their money and they should be given the option to use it as they damn well please lol. And where are they being forced to do anything??? Nobody is forcing them to grind a game mode for a weapon they want lmaoo. You're really trying to say that being able to have multiple energy types on our weapons is going to limit weapon variety because we are only going to use one weapon lol. That has already been disproved by D1, people used all types of weapons even though they could get multiple in different element types. Frankly your whole statement doesnt even make any sense.
-
No, I'm afraid your statement doesn't make any sense. The drumbeat of an entitled snob who doesn't know how to use anything other than the 5 guns he carries around on his character. Sad really.
