PS4 - Forsaken $25?!? Yet required for BL quests?

I’m new to playing Destiny. I purchased the Beyond Light deluxe edition or $60 as it was the version recommended in the PS4 store (side note - for a new player deciding which edition of this game to buy is incredibly confusing). From what I had read, BL basically made the previous expansions obsolete, and other things I had read made it seem like they weren’t required to play the current and future contact. Well, to my surprise, even though I just spent $60 buying this game, when I tried to queue up the weekly nightfall strike, I’m unable to do so unless I spend $25 more on the forsaken expansion. Right now I’m stuck in a place where I’m sitting on the BL stasis quest line requiring me to run nightfall multiple times to power up my stasis abilities, but the only way for me to complete content in the current expansion is if I spend $25 more on the game I just purchased. This really doesn’t make sense to me and from a customer service standpoint, it doesn’t sit well with me that a purchase of the new expansion doesn’t include all of the content necessary to play that actual expansion. I haven’t played too many MMO type of games, but I did play WoW back in the Lich king days and the way Blizzard always created their content ensured that if you purchased the most current expansion, all of the other past expansions were included. Okay, so Bungie isn’t Blizzard, but $25 seems like a pretty steep price to pay for a content pack that no one is playing other than when it happens to randomly pop up as the weekly nightfall. Having someone spend $60 on the ‘Deluxe Edition,’ of a game and immediately asking for another $25 just to be able to play through my current BL questline is a very poor customer experience. Bungie - if you still want to attract new players to this game rather than just try to hold on to your existing player base, you really need to rethink the content you’re including along with a purchase of the current expansion. Heck, when I was purchasing this edition of the game, in addition to it being the one recommended by the PS4 store, it was also the one that my friends who have been playing since the game started suggested I purchase as well. Past expansions should be included in a purchase of the current expansion, but heck couldn’t you at least make the forsaken expansion like a $5 add on?

  • Leave the game before your invested now they are sunsetting armour too so all the years I’ve had invested to make sets for different runs will become useless and a waste of master working so I to will finally have a way out and I’ve played since D1

    • Any chance you have access to a XB1 console with Game Pass?? Forsaken, Shadowkeep & BL are part of the Game Pass catalog... What you play there will sync with your PS4 with cross save... Just a workaround.

      • The Nightfall: The Ordeal strike rotates to a new random strike each Tuesday with the weekly reset. Bungie adjusted the available strike at least once during the first few weeks of the season to ensure it was one that was included with the free version of the game or the Beyond Light expansion, but that only occurred because the Stasis quest just became available and we are now 9 weeks into Year 4 for this expansion. In case you missed yesterday's TWAB, there are making some adjustments to rewards in The Dreaming City and the Moon to restore some value to these legacy expansions.

        • Yeah the "deluxe" is just a bunch of useless goodies. The base version would've been sufficient. Also kinda would recommend you to not bother with the game since this kind of monetizationary bs has been going on for a long time. And due to the recent changes that Beyond Light content will also go useless like Forsaken and Shadowkeep quite soon.

        • It is worth mentioning that BL is not an expansion at all. Expansion implies expansion of the content, but in the end the content was cut by more than half. The game became pathetic after the BL "expansion" was released. By the way, forsaken is not worth 5 dollars since most of its loot has been sunsetted.

Get out while you can. This game is sold like a MMO RPG something wonderful rabbit hole but in reality it's just a glorified manhole.

          • The strike this week sadly is forsaken exclusive, so next week hopefully it'll be a strike from the base game

          • Whats funny too is that you have access to the strikes in the regular strike playlist, but not when it’s a nightfall

            • While you're right the main use of ShadowKeep and Forsaken(the two old DLCs). Is to get their exotics, for example one of the most absolute top tier weapons for the end game is Anarchy which came out during the Forsaken year. Also things like Xenophage and Divinity from Shadowkeep. Although it seems to also lock you out of specific nightfalls, I can tell you it isn't locking you out of all nightfalls only this one because it came out in Forsaken. You don't need to own Beyond Light for it.

              • Hey, quick question to you all: Do these old expansion disks still work? https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/playstation-4/games/products/destiny-2-forsaken-legendary-collection/176577.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAl4WABhAJEiwATUnEF9-lCTI7MYjqz31Czjmfd8dopQEyxUSfSJaWEgh8YpL2FQPeeVm-kxoC_BcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I don’t like buying content after JUST buying what I thought was current content, but $10 is more palpable than $25 on the PS4 store.

That night fall strike thing has been around for 6 years, since the first time the Omnigul strike came out for Crotas end in destiny 1. If you want to play the content, you may need to pay for it. Maybe Get used to it? I doubt it will change. Also it's just one +2 drop. I've been 1260 armor and guns for weeks.

                    • Yeah sorry you’re going through this - Bungie really doesn’t care and it’s not worth it to pay the $25 for sunset loot and stale content...

(They are not looking to keep players around at all) and that is a fact looking at how the game is being managed, and very poorly at that. They are just milking the players until they release their new game that this one is funding, and they will let this game in a couple of years collect dust just as they did with the first destiny. That is basically why they created the new light system because they were losing their player base and needed something to save them after Activision dropped them. With the new light system having such a high turn over there will always be new players and that is all they care about at this point.

                    • This sort of thing is why there used to be 3 different strikes to choose from for weekly nightfalls... idk why they did away with that setup.
