I'm a switch axe/charge blade guy myself, though I had a little stint with gunlance for a while.

I do like charge blade. The rotation can be hard to get into though.

Edited by epicperon: 12/14/2020 9:35:17 PMI couldn’t figure out charge blade. it seems really cool, but also kinda complicated to use effectively. i’m certainly open to tips. switch axe was easier to understand but i’m not a fan of the super low mobility weapons, other than the lances of course

I'm not going to pretend I'm great with the weapon, or at the game in general, but it generally revolves around building your vials in sword, buffing your shield, building them again, then switching into the axe phase and melt faces.

what does it mean when the phial symbols are red?

That is prime shield buff time, or time to switch to the axe. Any more charge and you run the risk of bonking off the enemy.

and buffing the shield is where you put the sword into it and charge phials? or does that just charge phials and you have to do something that else to buff the shield?

It's been a while...but I know there's a move, I think it's in sword and shield mode, where you stick the boys in the shield, and the shield on your his starts to glow red. I haven't played in months, so I don't know the exact button combo...
