Xbox Series X - native 1440p output?

If you connect an Xbox Series X to a 1440p monitor, what do you get? 1440p native? 4K downscaled to 1440? 1080 upscaled to 1440? I can't find anywhere that Bungie has stated the answer.

With optimized version of D2 I would have to assume the only option that wouldn’t happen is 1080p being upscaled to 1440p.

I'd assume all that resolution scaling is handled by the hardware.
