I can ignore many things, but this game takes the cake.

Edit: added TLDR. New player. Just started the other day, I'm at 1025 atm (whatever that means), and my mind = blown. This has to be the WORST multiplayer experience I've ever had, and trust me I'm not exaggerating. I went in without any expectations, in fact they were negative. But not even in my dreams could I expect such incompetence displayed on an iterated product with 4 years behind it. No tutorial. Ok, i can live with that. Read the tooltips, check the key binds and off I go. But the rest requires either clairvoyance or constant googling. Hell, in many cases even that didn't help. Why would you send me on strikes 20 minutes in? Cool missions, sure. But they reward umbral engrams...so after capping my inventory I had to spend 4 hours trying to get a quest from that clown by the engram trash compactor, which turned out to be a waste of time in Gambit where I get matched vs 1070 players in game mode with enabled level advantages. Then another 2 hours trying to get Contact done, or more precisely to get the failure registered so I get the necessary part. Ok cool, you know... I let that go. So now I have to go on a raid. Is there any matchmaking? No! Shocked as I was, I figured it not be that big of a deal if I ignore that for the time being. Then there's a dungeon with 9 things in it, that also has no matchmaking. It wasn't long before I realized that there's no LFG or even a Global chat channel in the game! Just a pathetic /local that nobody reads, because you don't join by default! I'm amazed. You have a 4 year old multiplayer co-op mmo type of game with ZERO community tools in it! How? Please someone explain the logic to me, I can't even find a clan. Hell I can't even whisper to people in the open world! Some guy was looking for a chest, I found it but I ended up having to show him the path with a rifle, right after getting his attention with 4 cluster rockets.... I figured eh maybe on Discord. Yeah, 300k server good luck! Discord isn't made to be a matchmaking software; the server was overloaded for 12+ hours when I tried to join. So I dug deeper and what do my eyes see? An APP! I was half expecting to have to start sending emails to people asking if they would like to team up! And worse still, the Browse Clans part doesn't even work lol! I'm literally laughing as I'm writing this. Usually I can chuckle at a bad model, animation, sound or poor voice acting and writing (of which D2 definitely has an entire pile of gems, but I won't get into that because my face is tired), but this is the first time I find myself laughing in disbelief at the choices being made by the user experience department. I can forgive the fact that I can't just pick up bounties straight from the map before mission select, and have to load the tower every time I want to do something different. I can ignore the fact that there's a ton of currencies/tokens that barely excuse their existence. I can brush off the bad writing and the atrocious delivery. I can put aside the lack of direction at the start. But this... this is just the pinnacle of lazy design; making me jump through hoops just to get a PUG going. "Hey we have a multiplayer game, do you think we should include communication systems to enable players to contact one another?" "Nah, let them sort it out on their own. If Discord doesn't cut it, we can put one of our interns to develop a phone app." "You mean like on Google Play and iOS?" "Yeah! Everyone has a phone right? Worked well for Blizzard!" I can envision this conversation happening somewhere in Bungies HQ. I don't know who, why or how; but I will remember Destiny 2 as the most unpleasant multiplayer new user experience I've ever had. It's not technical problems on launch, or a badly designed system... it's the total absence of it that just amazed me. Bravo TLDR: New player. First quest after tutorial is to go on a strike - can't unlock umbrals. Getting the machine unlocked requires a seer. Can't get a PUG going in game without external software. Not all missions have matchmaking. No LFG chat; dead /local. Wow.

  • lmao ppl are really linking this dude stuff I'm so done. He's right lol game jus has an awful system. Thinking about other games I actually enjoy, they all have easy ways to communicate with teammates youre matched with. This game still has so many core issues unresolved.

  • Also raids should definitely have matchmaking as should all end game content. The opportunity should at least be presented tbh. Its fair. If you WANT to be match made with 6 randoms then sobeit. Also better communication systems would have to be implemented into the game. But nonetheless, the option for matchmaking in raids, dungeons etc should exist. Most people, me included, would rather just actually find a team on discord anyways. But matchmaking could definitely be viable. Especially if you could be matchmade to a host who could kick someone ruining it or there was a vote kick system. Also dungeons aren't very difficult anyways and kinda just seem like glorified extended strikes. So at least by now those should have match making.

  • I spend a lot of my time in the cosmodrome and tower warning new lights off all the bugs, letting them know about all the hours of research they should do before deciding to continue to play and offering my assistance in any way.. Most have the same exact response "this game is so confusing, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do".. You are not alone there.. but if you think Bungie actually cares, you are definitely along there..

      • Well, to address the matchmaking complaint, yeah, no, not a chance in hell should it be a thing for difficult content. A majority if people are just leeches and loot goblins for free loot who want to put no effort into actually learning and beating the encounters themselves. I've kicked plenty of people from raids for actually being incompetent morons, and lately, out of sheer boredom, leave my Pit or Prophecy dungeon runs open on the Xbox LFG. Some of the people that join are exactly what I mentioned before: leeches who want nothing but free loot handed to them. And I can tell. The lack of good gear, mismatched exotics, everything awful. Absolutely braindead to think that adding match making to endgame content is a good idea. Most of you can't even read plates, count doors, or even kNow WHAT THE HELL CLOCKWISE DIRECTION IS. Is Destiny 2 a new player friendly experience? Not exactly, but that's because it's in a messy period where all the stuff being thrown at you currently is going to be going away the next season. Chop the fat off, make it a new experience altogether.
Point still stands though, matchmaking for endgame content would be hell on Earth. Also, a lack of a global chat is a good thing. Some of you people, you got personal issues
• I was sent a survey for beyond light to my email. The things you listed are exactly what i told them in the survey that I would like to see addressed. I also mentioned that an improvement to the RNG pinnacle rewards are a top concern of mine. I don't care about triumphs or titles. I don't care about new supers. I don't care about Europa. Heck, if i'm being honest i really don't even care about vaulted content or sun-setting. How about dropping the stubborn act and old philosophies, and just give players OPTIONAL match-making for all activities. (Minus Raids,...perhaps) And PLEASE, a little bit of RNG/Bad luck protection on our pinnacles would make so many players happy

        • Destiny isn’t a multiplayer game. It is a solo game with marginal activities designed to be played in groups. Not coop, groups. Enjoy the “need 20+ clears” part of the lfg. Have fun with players with titles who need to pay or glitch/cheese everything. Destiny was meant to be the best space fantasy fps, but it was placed in the wrong hands, and now it’s mostly a patchwork of abandoned works in processes and bugs. The worst part is it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better. Beyond light subclasses are an epitome of bungie’s moto: it’s hard to make content.

          • I'm on the same page as most of what you said. Better systems in game for finding groups and socializing with others is desperately needed in Destiny. I don't think raids or dungeons should be automatically match made though. Even pre-made teams are too bone headed to complete them at times

              Thinking out loud about that:
I can forgive the fact that I can't just pick up bounties straight from the map before mission select, and have to load the tower every time I want to do something different
In 2020 we can order a pizza and get it in few minutes, but in destiny which is in the future we can't manage to make a call to the vanguard and ask a bounty, we have to travel to another planet just to reach whoever the vendor is and ask him "hey, is there any activity you need to save our specie?". Imagine if traveling from a planet to another would cost an amount of glimmer proportional to distance between planets because ships needs fuel, lol.

                • First of all, this is a very good write up from someone new at the game. As a D1 vet (insert ego check jibes) I had the opportunity to grow with the game. As they inserted frivolous currencies over time I only had to manage only a few at a time. I can not even imagine what it's like for new players coming to the game for the first time and having all these things they have to do but no idea how to do it. Alot of the stuff only makes sense if you've had alot of time on the game. There's no in game way to contact players for help or to look up quests and best way to complete them. I completely agree with all of the points you've made and can only hope bungie reads your response. My advice, should you choose to accept and continue playing the game: find a clan. See if there's people who you click with. For me, the game isn't about the killing and the shooting. It's about the people who've I met in game and clicked with. I've also been fortunate enough to have met half of my FireTeam, with plans to travel half way through the world to meet the other half. For me, the game is a platform where I log into to spend some quality time in orbit to chat a bunch of shit with buds and then maybe get around to shooting shit in game.

See, you don't understand.... "You're just lazy because you're unwilling to put in the work to participate in a multiplayer game that requires multiplayer but doesn't give you the tools for multiplayer. It's your responsibility to set up everything, make sure everything runs smoothly, and then make sure you get matched with the right people. It may require 1-3 apps to do this, but you have to understand that playing this game is a privilege and you can't ask Bungie for anything ever even though you bought the game. Don't worry tho, someone will come along and make a 5 paragraph essay on why you're always crying for clearly unnecessary add-ons even though this is your first post ever." - most forum mouth breathers Yes, this is their honest take. They expect YOU to do the work. It's okay if Bungie doesn't. They've made this argument since D1, and they'll make it now. It'll never change, just like we'll never get an updated engine because reasons.

                    • So so true... That's okay, if you keep playing you will all yourself almost daily "was that a bug or the way bungie meant for it to be" and you will never get the answer... Play a game where the developers actually care about the players... If you find a time machine, let me know and I'll go back with you to DO days... This game was 100,000x better before eververse came out... But at least we have avengers and outriders to look forward to!

                        • Matchmaking for raids has been a topic for discussion since the first D1 raid launched. Personally I’m dead against it unless it was completely optional in which case you know what you are getting yourself in for if you choose to roll the matchmaking dice. Same goes for dungeons or any endgame activity that needs some form of good team comms and coordination. I see you are in a clan with 54 members. Maybe you just joined them which is cool but if not, after three days of playtime I would have thought reaching out to your clan mates would be your first, best option. Sad that the game hasn’t met your expectations. Everyone’s experience is different I suppose.

                          • It's not an mmo, no matter how many times bungie says it is. It's not, and never will be, so your first mistake was going in and expecting it to have everything regular mmo's have. LFG isn't hard to use if you want raids or dungeons done, and dungeons can be soloed anyway. You say you just started playing, but all you've done is complain about everything. Nobody wants to help someone who constantly cries about the little things.

                                  • Based on your comments, it sounds like you're a PC player. It's worse for us console folks as we have to back out of the game and find the player with the console's own chat system if we want to send any messages that aren't generic "so-and-so wants to play Destiny!" fireteam invites. The complete lack of meaningful matchmaking and player communication systems has been a sore spot since the game originally launched back in D1. Bungie's stance is "the internet exists, so use it instead" and that's not likely to change. We're just supposed to shut up and throw money at the screen, per Luke's declaration.

                                    • There are a lot of people that only do PvP on Destiny for a quest that they force you to do to acquire that weapon. Otherwise, most people agree that Crucible on this franchise is a sh-t show at best. You must only use what weapons that they would like you to use,. If too many people are using another weapon, it will promptly be nerfed. Once the community starts to enjoy an exotic weapon or armor piece, it is promptly nerfed to the point where it is useless and not worth the slot. I have many legendary weapons more useful than my exotics and they are due to be nerfed now. I’ve been playing since Destiny 1 Beta, and instead of learning from mistakes made from the first launch, they have somehow found a way to make Destiny 2 exponentially worse. If this expansion isn’t an absolute Grand Slam, this franchise will lose the remaining idiots like me that are left.
