Why weapon capping wasn’t complained about much in D1, but is in D2
Destiny 1 had weapon capping/retirement from the start. it happened in TTK and then ROI. Since players were used to it, they were able to adapt to it well and “welcomed”the retirement.
Destiny 2 didn’t have weapon retirement until now. I bet if we had it right off and weapon retirement happened every year expansion, starting with forsaken, it wouldn’t be complained about too much(tho people would still complain about it)
Edit: actually if I remember this right, vanilla D1 weapons were made obsolete when dark below was dropped, but house of wolves infusion(or light upgrade) brought them back. So yeah for D1, weapon retirement was as early as Y1
Edit 2: ooook there were reasons for the quotations around welcomed. Holy shit. Ok how about “There wasn’t as big of a crying out back in D1.” Would that work?

A small handful of weapons in D1 were retired, everything else could be I fused to max light. I might be missing a few but the only weapons I remember that stayed retired were Black Hammer Pocket Infinity The fallen themed weapons that you got from prison of elders/skolas (those got replaced with updated fallen themed weapons)

TTK? yes. ROI? No, you can still use/infuse y2 weapons up to 380(before AoT which increased the light level to 400)

because everyone can reach the max light in d1 compare to d2 max light not everyone can go to 1000 light

Nobody welcomed it we were all furious when vog weapons were retired then bungie gave us a half assed apology with Imago loop then brought back vog weapons because we were still pissed off. Matter of fact I didn't even buy wrath because I figured kingsfall weapons were getting left behind and I was pissed off because those were by far the best looking guns and I wasn't regrinding for the same gun with the same perks and a shittier look
