Stop creating 6 man events in public spaces without MATCHMAKING

Really wish they would stop making planetary events public and assign a matchmaking to them... You will never never never find a 6 man team (two 3 man, randoms, three 2 man, whatever configuration) that is doing the same objective as you on old events (alter of Sorrows, Escalation Protocol, the bubble one on Dreaming city).. I am trying to kill all the bosses without a sacrifice to get the ship and nobody is doing it or if they are, they dont know what they are doing cause they just got the game for christmas... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Other than the Nay-sayers/ trolls / try-hards, there has been some good solutions mentioned in this thread. [u]1.) Increase fireteam # to 6.[/u] This sounds great to me. Most of us have more than two friends and would like to do activities with everyone. Bungie seems to stick with the 3 as a ongoing layout. 3 man fire team, 3 races to choose from, 3 class ability types, 3 classes, 3 weapons (kinetic/energy/heavy), etc... but if they broken that to allow 6 on planets. [u]why this works/doesnt work:[/u] I dont see anything really negative about this arrangement. You can play with more friends. Activities on the planet become easier (lost sectors, public events, patrols) with more friends which rewards playing together. There is nothing in the mentioned activities that would break the game. The rewards are usually blue - purple engrams, planetary rewards, glimmer. Just because a 6 man fire team can be on the planet doesnt necessarily mean they can start story missions or heroic missions. I understand that those are balanced for 3 man teams and that can stay that way. Too many members of the fireteam warning could pop up and lock out those activities. [u]2. Create Matchmaking for events such as Blindwell, Alter of Sorrows, Escalation Protocol:[/u] This is what I would appreciate and I think a lot of players would enjoy as this would eliminate countless time wasted bouncing in and out of planets or setting up a request for additional players outside of the game itself, or worst of all inviting a random already on the planet to a party asking if hed be willing to invite your friends and then make them the leader and leave his game. <-- This is not an acceptable way to play these events.. [u]why this works/doesnt work:[/u] Again this idea has really no negative consequence. The only think i can think of as a negative impact is you lose the ability to have up to 9 players working on the activity but how often does that occur naturally? hmm? Plus if it was a selectable matchmaking event on the map, Bungie could build off of it. Make a heroic version which might reward Ascendant shards or crystals, exotics, or masterwork rolls of the current weapons that are rewarded. I would love this as it would create a new endgame content. The events could include their Champion mechanics and make more use of these artifact perks. [u]3. When leaving a fireteam, do not boot to orbit:[/u] This is an interesting idea, why does it always boot you to orbit? What exploit did Bungie want to avoid by kicking the player back to orbit? Was their an intention behind this action? If this was available, players could get as many players as they wanted by invitation to fireteams to the same planet while keeping 3 man teams. [u]why this works/doesnt work:[/u] I dont have an answer for this one. It shouldnt provide any negative impact to the game, you cant have more than 3 enter a Lost sector in this situation. 3 man teams could move on to do the Story missions without disbandoning. I dont know why this wouldnt work and it sounds like a good answer. What do you all think of this? I wonder what Bungie thinks? It would bring life back into dead events.

    The absence of matchmaking make it more "organic/realistic." During game presentation they said that matchmaking was suppose to be invisible in order to make the game feels more alive, which was a good idea. But this system is not working as his full potential, so a matchmaking for this kind of activities is necessary now. I suppose the same system as the forges could be possible, escalation protocole, blind well and Altar of Sorrow may rotate each day and we would go to the acrivity directly from the orbit. If you want to do Altar of Sorrow during Blind Well day, you would just have to go in the Moon.

    • I thought you could travel to the event from destination screen, and it would put you in a server that others did as well. Or did they change that.

      • I agree same should go with the heroic or legendary variants of things like menagerie and the sundial matchmaking in the game for these activities should be a thing.

        I can tell you that the devs 100% are aware these are things we want. To events like Blind Well and EP, the reason those aren't able to be mm for 6 is because of how the world matchmaking works in Destiny. Each zone is a "bubble" that are public (open patrol spaces where you see other random players) or private (lost sectors, parts of strikes, etc). In order to have the seamless matchmaking between zones, as well as to eliminate players being tethered together on patrol (think Halo teleporting players up to teammates when they're falling behind), this was the system Bungie arrived at that allowed the best experience. The fireteam's of 3 are a product of the limited amount of player slots in each public bubble, and there are a lot of things behind the scenes that affect this as well. To give an example, there are considerations for fireteam hosts, game read states, enemies on screen and keeping things consistent for all players within the zone; examples: if a player kills (x), that game state needs to be consistent for everyone, or say there's a public event and (x) enemies spawn; the game needs to be able to keep the game state constant for not only everyone in the zone, but also for random players who spawn in or teammates in other zones who may or may not join. There's also switches within zones like patrol beacons, etc. Players might remember that in D1 there were situations where 6 players could be in a public patrol bubble, most notably the beginning of VoG, but also it was possible to backtrack there in WotM. Those who did this may remember that it disabled patrol beacons and kept other things from occurring that required switches. That's because in order for the 6 players to be together, those things had to be disabled or it wouldn't work. So where it's at now and the maximum public spaces available, the game is set up to where if 3 players are on patrol together and one goes into a different zone (the seamless matchmaking takes place in that space between where sometimes a player with catch suspended in the air), the game needs to hold spots for their teammates to prevent them from being locked out of the zone because it's full. (This is also why players are booted to orbit when they leave a fireteam). Obviously this works well with teams of 3 and zones can be hopping with activity, but if suddenly the game is possibly holding 5 places... You get the point. It severely impacts the experience for smaller teams and solo players. Again, the devs are aware of pretty much every workaround suggestion you've posted as well, but it's good to see posts like this with players brainstorming ideas for things that would be cool to see added and though I doubt we'll see anything like that in D2 as it exists, hopefully as systems get more powerful, the game will get there. I think it would need to be another full reboot though. Obviously it's a lot more complex in what all is happening behind the scenes with not only all the various game states being tracked/implemented, but also what functions are hosted where (some things are hosted on regional Destiny serves, others peer-to-peer), and overall the maximum number of players who can be interacting within a zone, while still allowing for enough enemy AI combatants to make the zones not feel empty. Hopefully this helps a bit. Last but not least, I do agree with comments on optional matchmaking for all existing endgame content (Sundial, NF, Raids) and this is something that is possible, but the top decision makers just don't believe in for whatever reason and I wish it would change.

        • Well thought out. I guess if anything is done it needs to not divert significant resources away. To solve your actual issues as any game fix here will not be quick Find people in your region who want same thing you do. (Use lfg) For altar you need three separate people to load into same instance. Use fast travel until you are all in the same one. If you are in same region it will probably connect easier. Potentially all changing your system tine by an hour may help too. Then have 2 other people join each of those three people in same instance. Voila nine guardians and you will get zero sacrifices and can get the fast kill final boss triumph if you mega nova bomb at right time with seasonal mod active. For ep and bw you can do same thing but would only need two Guardians to get into same instance. Bw seems an easier one to make work as people travel to the specific space when they want to do it and don’t have vendors patrols and story missions that are conflicting objectives so seems well built for this. Takes a bit more effort but will Be quicker than waiting for a fix.

          • Did they change the loot drops on the (I forget what it's called) hoard mode thing on the moon? I mean, I played it last night and we couldn't beat the boss. I guess killing two ogres and 2 knights before they reach a bubble is just too complicated. So we failed the boss wave (I guess having 1 sacrifice basically makes killing the boss impossible since you'll run out of time) and we had to reset from the previous wave. So we beat the sword wizards and finish the round just to get a box with the bosses weapon drops.... I thought you could only get the guns from killing the boss? Guess not.

            Its so stupid after all of the feedback from escalation they still went with alter of sorrow with no matchmaking. Just goes to show what kind of devs we're dealing with in a nutshell. I mean someone gave the go ahead on alters with no mm and everyone was ok with it??? wtf. Not even a option. And the fact that they say they don't have the resources to go back and add mm to older activities is a rediculous joke.

              • Bungie really needs to quit being stupid about this. Heroic Sundial with no matchmaking. My Clan has moved on and no longer cares about Destiny. I am tired of joining new Clans just to get activities done like this. I have been sporadically going through the Xbox Live Looking For a Group this week, but no where have I ever seen anyone making a post for Heroic Sundial runs. Guess no one is doing it or cares about it anymore. How low has your population dropped this week, Bungie? Are we at Anthem or Fallout 76 level yet?

                • MHW launched with the ability to search for the players you want to play with. Specific activities, monsters, you name it. Bungie still can't figure it out after 2 games, likely 10 years of input toward the IP, over 2 decades of existing. Multiple big console releases, some of the biggest launches in gaming history. A dev making their first big console title did it. With better long term support. For free. Yall got conned.

                • Actually they need better instance management. It should fill one instance before putting players in a new one. It would make group activities more usable.

                            lol geez Let's hope if they bring in MM for this type of event that we have an option to choose if we want to match with randoms who come into the event with no champion mods or play with mates instead. go play a 920 nf and you'll see how many idiots are running double overload mods or no mods at all. This is why to have it as an option makes sense
