I think it is very important to acknowledge 3 things for this to make sense
1. The darkness is a force/entity of unknown (possibly extra-dimensional) origin
2. The “bomb logic” is a philosophy specific to mara sov and the awoken and is there for a philosophy of grey
3. The light has forever attempted to protect its charges and create as Toland put it “a gentle place ringed in spears” it has also sought to spread its influence.
So what is the end goal of the light? The darkness seeks to become the only thing left in the universe by killing everything else and become the final perfect shape. The light having always sought to create “a gentle place ringed in Spears” must follow one of two philosophies.
The first is a shield logic which is similar to the bomb logic yet diametrically opposed to the sword logic. The goal of this shield logic is to create a idea/ place/society that is so complex and interwoven and diverse that no single idea no matter how refined(the sword logic) can break it. This makes sense in light of the lumina as it heals teammates and connects you to them. This complex thing could even outlast everything else in the universe.
The second is what I refer to as the creation logic, the creation logic. This goal is similar to the shield logic but much more expansion based, the goal of this philosophy is to become the foundation of everything in the universe, this is strongly supported by the way the traveler constantly seeks out civilizations and builds them up, the goal is that these civilizations of which the traveler is the very foundation of would spread pushing all other sentient life till the light is the very foundation of all life in the universe. This is supported by the way the hive seek to hunt and destroy every light based civilization before it develops. Though I find this less likely in light of recent developments.
Now we also have to consider how the philosophies of other groups fit in the mains ones being.
The traveler is not good: none of these things make the traveler the good guy for humanity as it has abandoned numerous failed attempts
The balance: these philosophies are both diametrically opposed to darkness (though I don’t agree with ulan-tan)
The bomb logic: the bomb logic very heavily supports the shield logic as the bomb logic is the use of many various ideas on things to destroy something, this combines the lights complexity and the darkness’s destruction. (It also helps explain why guardians can use the sword logic because it can be incorporated into that complexity) we also used this with the blighted light to kill oryx, so as that was light and darkness so is this, this is a philosophy of balance
Saint-14: his views on the darkness at this point seem rather outdated in light of newer information.
The nine: the nines ideology is very close to the darkness but not the same, I believe the nine are a bit like the awoken philosophically however I think the awoken are a it more on the side of the light and the nine a bit more on the side of the darkness
Humans: I think it’s very important to note the difference between what the light wants and what humans want, I believe that at some point in the interest of humanity the light will have to go at some point, many groups have been seen who support humanity and not the traveler and I don’t think it has our best interests at heart
Both of these are also supported by the travelers terraforming

1 ReplyA shield and a sword, both are binded to their nature and their own capabilities. The Traveler can only do what it's nature orders it to do and the same applies to the Darkness...But we (guardians) are not, the same way a sword can be used to protect a shield could be used to harm, if Darkness would have "bestowed" upon us it's power we would be wielding it for the same reasons we use the Light. Hence why we can use both the Light and more and more the Deep. Perhaps that's why the Traveler chose to stay because it understood that it has found the Agents who can wield their own destiny... This whole thing might end with us breaking both and sending them back from where they came from

5 Replies<Oh Saint-14's ideas are far from outdated. The Darkness is a single powerful entity leading an army composed of one or two foreign enemies, all empowered by the Deep. The Speaker was right, it's a cosmic force. Pujari was right, shown as Uldren gets more corrupted and the Darkness within causes him to change AND the physical aspects shown everywhere else. I discussed Saint-14. Ulan-Tan is partially right, but I think it's more like the Force. As in a balance is needed but the scales can tip dramatically. For example, the Traveler can die but Light can exist in this dimension as long as there's a source. The same goes for the Darkness. The Monists are partially correct, as the Pyramid Armada is visually more advanced than any other race so far. Their ships are the most sci-fi looking thing in this franchise so far. The Acataleptic Clause is only correct now. We are only currently unable to understand the Deep and we'd need a chat with IT or the Traveler to fully grasp its nature.>

163 RepliesWe don't actually know the goal of the light so the shield logic is just your opinion. Nothing the Traveler has done has made it anything other than the good guy to humanity, we are not the other species that the traveler left and the Hive kill species whether they are touched by the Traveler or not. Guardians do not follow the bomb logic, in fact they don't follow any of these logics, they just want to protect humanity and regain it's worlds everyone else can get -blam!-ed. The nine just want to be independent of the life that originate from the sol system.

5 RepliesFirst off a typo: Toland not Roland in your 3rd bullet point at the beginning. Both of these ideologies are great and have merits to them in explaining the Traveler's role in the universe (I really like how you pointed out the possible parallel of the Last Shape and First Foundation). Of course at this point we are crazy deep into speculation and theory, so it is hard to prove/disprove any of this. For your creation theory, if the Traveler's goal is to become the idol of all (surviving?) creation wouldn't that mean that it would strive to protect that which has accepted it and prepare its followers to go to war against those that oppose it being basically the god of the universe/creation. The theory (to the extent that you have explained at least) paints the Hive and the Darkness as a little petty; by that I mean this theory could be improved upon by describing the Hive as seeking out the Travel to strengthen themselves against the most zealot of beings in the universe (loyalty to the Traveler). Those who would fight just as hard as they do for what they believe in. Also theoretically the Hive don't consider other species as weaker but philosophically the Hive strive to be the best and if they aren't the strongest that is great too because the strongest guy still wins. Think of it like this, if I train against the hardest/most worthy opponent possible then the victory must be the strongest between the two of us. The Hive could be seeking out the Travel and its followers to prove who truly is stronger. The Shield Logic is probably more likely. If I understand you explanation properly the Shield Logic is the philosophical version of communism. This is to say all ideas, knowledge, and beliefs are equal, there is no right way because every way is allowed. And it is this unity of everything that allows the Shield Logic to overcome everything because it encompasses every theory of belief and therefore understands how a single line of thought is "wrong" and thereby that line of thought is beatable. Both your ideas are well thought out and you deserve some praise for thoroughly thinking about all the pieces on the board of Destiny to come up with them. It is unfortunate that we will probably ever get a real explanation of the Traveler's philosophy beyond the vague concept of 'serve the light', because this topic is so game changing (from a lore perspective) if bungie doesn't get it perfect. But hey it can be fun to theory craft about ideologies of a looming force of the Destiny universe. Hope you have a good day.
