I think the concept of "roles" has everyone confused. Here's a list of tasks and who should be completing them.
Killing Enemies: Everyone
Banking Motes: Everyone
Clearing Blockers: Everyone
Fighting Invaders: Everyone
Killing the Primevil: Everyone
Invading: Invaders
Seriously though, you don't get to stand at the bank just because you wear sentry, just like an invader can't just stand at the portal waiting for invasions.
Everyone should be team shooting invaders, Sentry just has the added bonus of marking them for the [i]team[/i]. I don't understand the rationale everyone has in thinking they should be able to 1v1 invaders.
Tldr; I think sentry is fine. Invasions are a 1v4, not a 1v1.

If they invade and the sentry is out killing ads instead of killing the blockers in the middle what happens when your team mates aren't capable of taking out the invader? If you play sentry stick to the bank and kill everything right away so that people can bank motes as soon as someone invades. just make sure you use a long range weapon to help kill ads from the bank when you've killed all blockers.

Invasions are a 1v4, not a 1v1.[/quote] Except if you're a good invader, your job (and self interest) is to make it a 1v1v1v1v1 rapidly. Not run into an open area and meet a 1v4. You'll always lose a 1v4. Sentries are there to make it a 1v4. But invaders do not want that to happen.

I sit at the bank all the time in my sentry set, unless it's mars where I can't see and help with enemies. I use a long range scout and protect guardians getting rushed from behind, clear blockers and Mark invaders. I have probably lost 1 or 2 matches doing so. People are too stubborn to realise playing your role makes gambit prime play much quicker and easier. Especially with sentry holding the centre of the map he will always have eyes on an invader before he gets to people carrying motes. If he dies he's not carrying any and has probably marked his target.

I agree, scout overwatch from centre if you are blocking. Your team probably doesn't realise you save their lives a few times, or other backup tasks that you do. Can make a major difference to final result, but is not reflected on end of game scoreboard.

Those rolls are true but when the one role that is meant to counter invaders and blockers doesn't have many (if any) good perks for their job.

Hawk it's 1 v 4 why would the invader have to be worried about one player?

Their 2nd main role which should have a good benefit when they are supposed to COUNTER INVADERS and be the main attacker of them, everyone can but they should be the main one

I think you've made a bit of a leap here. I never said anything about 1v1 killing, standing at the bank (although the healing armor perk encourages this), or any of the other stuff you listed. My point was simply that the single anti-invader perk on sentry armor is weak and sentries should have more anti-invader tools.

All good. Those snips were meant within a team context, but I can see how they'd sound like they are about 1v1. Without derailing things too much, I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Yes roles are shared and yes the team needs to be fluid about moving though the different phases, but if im grabbing motes as a sentry and prevent the collector from getting a giant out, or have 12 in my pocket when the invader comes, as a sentry I've overextended and that is counterproductive. But anyway...
