Not positive, but it may stem from the same thing as why you can have two stacks of Dawning shaders. Depending on where they came from (Tess, or gift boxes), they either break down into silver dust, or into glimmer, so they can't be in the same stack. The lantern effects may be the same way, but they only way to know for sure would be to dismantle them and see.
