It's not predatory at all, especially since it's shitty cosmetics most of the time. It's nobody's fault but the buyer if they want to get ripped off by buying boxes and not getting what they want from them. Edit: Not to mention Destiny 2's micro transactions are probably one of the better implementations of them, considering how easily you can get all the stuff from them just by playing the game.
It's not predatory at all, especially since it's shitty cosmetics most of the time.
Doesn't matter what kind of item it is. The practice is just as shitty either way.
It's nobody's fault but the buyer if they want to get ripped off by buying boxes and not getting what they want from them.
pred·a·to·ry ˈpredəˌtôrē/ adjective 2. seeking to exploit or oppress others. synonyms: exploitative, wolfish, rapacious, vulturine, vulturous Exploiting ones desire to have a particular item by hiding it behind a random payout is preying on/exploiting that desire, or at least, attempting to. The practice of rng is more lucrative than just offering the item by itself, else they wouldn't do it, hence the predatory terminology.
