I said that it showed a lot about your character, so thanks for putting words in my mouth. Yes they do. Everyone does. You are joining someone else's group so ofc you need their permission to join. However, a low mr player is going to be a hindrance to the group, so their friend is going to have to pick up the slack. You need to make sure that the other 2 people are okay with that. Don't expect people to carry you through any activity just because you think you deserve it.
