It reminds me of the shipbuilder's paradox, as I believe it is called. Imagine Bungie as a ship, with all of its employees being the pieces of wood that make up the ship. Over time, the pieces are replaced one by one, until eventually none of the original wood is on the ship. Is it still, then, the original ship?

  • Every seven years every cell in your body recycles. Are you the same person you were seven years ago? The answer depends on your point of view. The issue isnt that Bungie had changed. The issue is that people want to "step in the same river twice". Which you can never do. A hard lesson I learned when I walked out of the theater confused and disappointed after watching The Empire Strikes Back. Figured out that it was because I went in chasing after a feeling, rather than to see a good movie. Got the latter, but was upset because I wanted the former.

  • I was with you until you said you were ”confused and disappointed” by The Empire Strikes Back. Still the best Star Wars movie ever made and a hands down improvement over the original.

Actually you are not the same person from second to second due to neurons, long and short term memory and your ability to learn. The real debate is about good and evil. Evil being a concious choice to do something to hurt, hinder or take advantage of another. Games lime destiny 2 (not 1) are aimed primarily at children. It's a real worry at just what the hell Bungie are doing given they are actively shifting game mechanics to get people to use the games micro transaction system and spend a lot of real money. Money that children don't have! So those children are going to resort to the beg, borrow or steal reflex. It's only a matter of time before this blows up in the same way app iaps did i.e when children spent 1000s of their parents money on virtual items.

  • Most games that I've seen with micros are aimed at teens, not young children. Teens are old enough to understand the value of money and to exercise restraint. Also parents are responsible here.

  • but for this paradox to make sense the wood planks need to be technically identical. My point was: If everything was fine and if activision would do a good job most of the developers wouldn't just quit... it is so obvious, i dont get how anyone can defend activision...
