Here.
Eagerly awaiting the new DLC that was announced at E3 last month.
Horizon Zero Dawn is what can happen when you give a game developer the freedom to take risks....and the TIME they need to really create and POLISH a game.
They occasionally put out patches that they claim are bug fixes....but I've never actually ecountered any bugs in the game. Its THAT polished.

For sure. Ubisoft and EA need to take notes.

They do. But part of the problem is that they are both publicly-owned and traded companies. So they face the pressure of "Wall Street" expectations for sales and profit. ...and often times that pressure is coming from "institutional" investors who don't really buy-and-hold stocks any more. Instead they really just large-scale speculators who just want to maximize shor-term profits and don't really give a shit about the product, or even the long-term prospects of the business who's stock they own. But since these executives have to answer to Boards of Directors...and in many cases have their own salaries tied to stock performance...and not to more long-term measures of business success....they have little incentive to resist that pressure.
-
Ahh. I don't have an economical mind, but that's interesting.
-
Long story short, we've created a situation where there are destructive incentives that reward VERY short-term thinking with little consideration of long-term consequences.
-
Not really good for the game industry. We need more risky experiences that take time to build and polish. Then we can have more games like HZD.
-
Its not good for any industry....because EVERY business can benefit from the controlled-risk taking and long-term strategizing that you're talking about. But this sort of casino mentality among investrors....and CEOs whose compensation is so tightly linked with changes in stock prices.....just creates a situation where nothing seems to matter beyond the next quarter. ...and all businesses suffer to a degree. But the people who are in a position to change thigns....have a FINANCIAL incentive to do absolutely nothing about it.

You sure understand this stuff well lol. All good points.

Have a brother who does this shit for a living....can runs circles around me with it.
