Shotguns and its Effects on the Crucible

Shotguns are on top now, I don't think thats debatable. Now they are basically what they were in year one but the situation is worse now. Though sometimes it seems like shotguns have stupid range more often or naught our little peashooters we call primaries can't kill shotgun rushers anymore. If some foolish child wanted to run at me with shotgun in year one, two shots he's dead. But now handcannons take 4-5 shots usually to get kills. In that time little Jimmy has enough time to run at me with his mapador 64 and blow my head off. What needs to happen is a drastic primary buff that will allow people that are good with their primaries to punish the people that allows rush and don't think.

    • I got news for you. Shotguns have been the #1 killing weapon out of every weapon for over a yr now. They didnt just reach the top lmao. Theyve been there.

      • First of all. In the tittle it should be "effects" Now to your concern. Year One had the worst shutgun problem ever, even worse than Modern Warfare 2, so please, dont compare this shotguns to year 1. I had the felwinters lie, and that shotgun was like a sniper, it had so much range. To use shotgun atm you need skill, when to use it and when not to use it. If you cant kill with primary weapons you need to learn how to aim or get the right primary for crucible

        • Yes! Buff those primaries! Why should I put myself at a disadvantage by using a primary when I get outshot by everything while using it? I just pull out my special and instantly become able to compete. I use my special as a primary because my primary isn't special!

        • They need to nerf special ammo so these people can't go around using secondaries wildly as if they were primaries. Give them 4 shots per drop. They need to do something about autorifles too.

          What people don't realize is that it's always been like this since year one. So many people would use a secondary as a primary. It still hasn't changed since. The Majority of the playerbase on here is too reliant on special weapons. Of course, you're gonna get the people who say something like "screw you, I like shotgunning/sniping/etc."; to which I say "Good for you, but this has been a problem since launch and something seriously needs to be done because it's been a frequent balance problem." I personally don't believe buffing all primaries is the solution. That'll only trigger power creep and it'll make this game feel like CoD, which it isn't. Bungie had the right idea when they limited special that one time. The problem was that Ice breaker, invective and sidearms completely undid this change, and it forced bungie to revert the special changes. They can do this again, but only after they've done something about ice breaker and invective. What people don't understand is that Special weapons are meant to be used for when the situation calls for it. That's why they're called "Special" instead of "Primary". TLDR: This has been an ongoing issue since launch, and Bungie needs to limit special ammo to fix this problem.

            I'd rather have TDB days back. Shotguns were twice as strong as they are now, but they were actually kept in-check by primary weapons.

            • Shotguns in this game are everywhere. I would say 90 percent of my deaths lately come from the shotgun. This game has lost most of its skill base and is now built for trash kids. The sad thing is I enjoy using a shotgun but it's not my primary. Most kids pull out that shotgun and it becomes their primary the entire game. This new META is garbage!!!

              • Shotguns are nowhere near what they were in year 1. People complain about range now go watch some old videos of the felwinters lie. Shotguns are in a good place for me, although sometimes quite inconsistent. Hand canons shouldn't take that many shots but if you are using a bad one that would explain it.

              • what HC do you use because you must have some bad aim if it takes 4/5 shots to kill hell you can 3 click plp with the mida and anything is better than the camp fest that was the rein of snipers for a year and a half

                    • I think primary damage should be scaled up the closer your enemy is to you. Kinda like reverse damage fall off.

                      • My solution. Just create a primary only crucible mode. No NLB and no Universal. Problem solved. My other suggestions would a mode where everyone in the match (both teams) has a random load out but everyone's the same. That way people could get a chance to play with weapons they don't have and everything would be equal. If you lose then you lose and can't complain.

                        • I think the best way to fix the shotgun issue is everyone using shotguns stay in the close quarter areas and the people using snipers and primary's stay out of the shotgun areas.

                        • Primaries in year 1 were able to fight back against shotguns. Now even tho shotguns have been nerfed...Primaries are even more unreliable. I used to back pedal Red death shotgunners...but now that gun is to weak to do that.

                        • Use sauros regime with focused fire and aim for the head. Ive had people rushing at me with a shotgun and the added stopping power of focused fire slows em down enough for you kill em before they close the gap.

                        • It's okay guys. It's just another sniper crying for bungie to further cater them. * I want less flinch! I want shotgun range to be nerfed so I can use my long range weapon to quickscope! This weapon that can be used seamlessly at any range is too underpowered to compete with a shotgun that must close the distance gap.

                        • I agree, but people are going to say. I kill rushers just fine with my primary gun. Knowing dang well its bs. And knowing bungie, they don't give a crap about us wanting primary buffs. Most of bungie are shotgun warlocks.

                          • wrong... every single one of these posts is wrong... the issue is not "shotguns" it's a select few shotguns (matador, party crasher, conspiracy theory) and the issue isn't that they are OP... but its the fact that ALL other shotguns pale in comparison to them to the point where using any shotgun other than those select few is just not smart... this leaves no variety in this weapon type and that is the real issue here... everyone is tired of seeing the same 3-4 shotguns killing them over and over again... i get it... but that doesn't mean that they are OP and need a nerf. also there are plenty of ways to beat them. fusion rifles do wonders if you're smart about it and the trespasser just shreds people trying to rush you.
