So apparently cool cops are the ones that don't do their job right.

  • More like takes extenuating circumstances into account. Speeding is a misdemeanor. OP said his work place is very strict on punctuality and his being late was a fluke. The officer obviously did not want to wreck OP's life over a misdemeanor.

OP should have manged his time better. Not the cops problem he's late. Nor is it mine when he knocks me off my bike on the way to work.

  • He said it was a fluke. In other words, this is not a regular occurrence. Also, according to his description of the conditions, no one was on the road.

  • Well if nobody seems to be on the road, speed away!

  • That still doesn't change my point, the cop was not doing what he was being payed to do.

  • Would you rather a police officer enforce every single law on the books, without exception? Or would you rather them exercise some judgement and worry about the larger crimes?

  • I would rather have the first option. Because that will encourage people to actually obey the law regardless of their situation.

  • I encourage you to look up laws in your state before answering that question. Some of them were made over a century ago to enforce "morality" rather than protect the common good.

  • Its their job to "protect and serve" not to give tickets. The tickets are a way of deterrent from speeding but as OP said he didnt have a criminal record so it's unlikely he speeds often.

  • Did OP say he doesn't have a criminal record?

  • Speeding makes driving more dangerous for others. Discouraging speeding reduces risk of accidents.
