He could very well have died. He's several guardian generations before us. Remember, he grew up in a small settlement before the City was even built. He's the first know person to use the Golden Gun. The wilds are a dangerous place today and that was even more true then. One wrong move over the decades could have cost him his life. It's also possible, assuming he could age, that he simply died from that.

  • During his fight with Dredgen Yor on Dwindler's Ridge Malphur channels a significant amount of light through the Last Word and fired 3 solar power shots to win the duel. This is why when any Hunter summons a golden gun it appears as TLW, because that's what the original Golden Gun was.

  • Feels like you aren't the person to dispute grimoire facts with. Good day guardian.

  • 2 to "win the duel" but a 3rd in his head afterwards, "for jaren"

  • Yea. Three shots were fired in total, but only it only took two shots to win.

  • Also, how do you feel about the Speaker right now? Toland and Osiris both dislike the guy (viewed as a hypocrite and charlatan, respectively), but you're pro-Saint. We can assume Saint-14 probably joined up with Osiris, since Osiris is still kicking and Saint hasn't come back (the story is too great to just kill Saint). Which means he probably doesn't approve of the Speaker either post-TTK update to that story. So how you feeling toward Mr. Speaker at the moment? Will reply in the morning probably, going to sleep.

  • I'm reserving judgment. I have no idea whether or not he can in any way commune with the Traveler. If not, then he's a charlatan who deceived the people and must be punished. But who knows? I don't like Toland, and believe he will try and become the next Taken King. I'm neutral towards Osiris, but usually seem hostile due to my distaste of the borderline worship he receives despite his obvious imperfections.

  • So you're not leaning Speaker? Ayyyy. Also, I'm the only one that really praises Osiris. The Toland/Osiris poll had Toland up something like 40% before I posted. Thats mostly because Toland has full fledged lore.

  • I've never really "leaned speaker." I've just always felt that pretty much everyone writes him off despite the fact there's absolutely no information to really go off of. And while a lot might prefer Toland, Osiris is still basically unanimously viewed in an incredibly positive way. Put a Speaker vs Osiris poll up and I bet you get at least 90%+ vote Osiris.

  • I like to imagine that toland is like the guardian from warcraft lore. A truly powerful guardian that trains and masters everything they can to become a true protector; he gets corrupted by the "wrong" power source, maybe a wyrm, and ends up being a servant to the Hive. Hes just sitting in the background, and now that Oryx is dead, we will see toland soon...

  • Toland was pretty good, but he got obsessive. If you notice the writing, he got a lot more pro-Hive once he got into the Overworld. He respects them a lot. Its because they're victims, in part, but its also because of how smart Oryx was- making himself as synonymous with Darkness as possible.
