As I do my grimiore grinding, it has become apparent that the crucible is pretty miserable and unfun lately. They tried too hard to undo the year one metas and created a total mess. Here is a list of reasons:
Server issues:
- Hit registration is total crap for almost everything. Melees are a little better but hand canons are barely viable and there are still disappearing shotgun pellets and fusion rifle bolts all the time, which brings to the second point...
- Latency. There is nothing worse than unloading three hammers or golden gun rounds into a person, have them melee you once and you die at full health, then they run away and "die" from your super five seconds later. While this is an extreme example, the latency from the time it takes damage referee to decide who won often puts you at a disadvantage in a fast paced game.
- Red bar warriors. They are still a thing.
Weapon Balance:
- There is little choice in the game. With hundreds of guns that the art department and design team put so much work into, there are surprisingly few of them that are viable. Choosing to have a "fun" loadout for a casual such as myself is the difference between a 1.6 game and a 0.3 game.
In general, primary weapons (with a few powerful exceptions) have such high TTKs, you often end up putting a lot of effort into an opponent only for them to evade and regenerate. It only makes sense that players gravitate to faster killing methods.
- Hand cannons are crap. I want to like them, but between the intentional "bloom" and hit registration issues, they are lackluster at best due to their way too frequent "ghost bullets". Plus, the shots to kill between high impact and medium impact hand cannons are no different, making low ROF hand cannons an unwise choice.
- Auto rifles (I know, right...well, here we go). High ROF autos are one of the few weapons in Destiny that have almost no drawback. As long as you have the right stability perks, range falloff has so little effect, that they remain as effective at mid range as most other primaries, despite being billed as close range weapon, both by the stats and bungie's own assertion. Additionally, the amount of damage all those bullets make staggers opponents, so as to make fighting back impossible once you've been hit . (I remember Bungie saying something about the Mida and stagger....) Medium ROF auto rifles are well balanced.
- Scout rifles and pulse rifles are mostly balanced, but within those types, most people will choose Mida, hawsaw, or grasp since they are standouts in an otherwise fair to mediocre weapon type. Pulse rifles were hardest hit with the Nirwen's archetype bring demoted to a three-banger without a commensurate increase in ROF.
- Snipers........Bungie described them perfectly as one-shot close to medium range battle rifles. In a game that is supposed to be about making choices regarding your loadout, a la paper-rock-scissors, snipers are all three. They are the counter to everything:
- Someone with a sniper? Snipe them.
- Someone slide shotgunning to you? Snipe them.
- Shoulder charge? Snipe them.
- Roaming Super? Snipe them.
- Fist of havoc? Snipe them.
- Someone with rockets? Snipe them.
- Someone with machine gun? Snipe them.
- Just got meleed? Snipe them.
- Losing a gunfight? Snipe them.
If you are the least bit familiar with YouTube, you can find examples of all of those, and in your daily gameplay and on the forums. Since year 2 started, someone has always answered complaints about everything from stormcaller to sunbreaker with "Bro, just snipe them." Snipers are the one tool that is good at all ranges, in all situations with very little to no downside. It's like they are a tool with multiple uses.....
....Which reminds me that Mida's high caliber rounds and marginally effective hand cannons were the only good counter to snipers, and the absence of both (this week's Dis-47 package notwithstanding), has left a vacuum for snipers to run wild and unchecked. Maybe bungie likes all the trick shots on youtube.
Restore pulse rifles and fix hand cannon registration and i think most of the imbalance will go away. My only suggested change should be a very slow equip and stow time for snipers, to make "body-shot-primary" combo less of a cheap tactic.
Enough about weapons.
Let's talk spawns....Yup, the spawn are annoying as -blam!-. It's even worse for solo players like myself when fireteams exploit destiny's shitty spawn system. The maps have been around so long that no-lifes have pretty much mastered the art of spawn-trapping, spawn-sniping, or coordinated spawn flipping leaving the recipients trapped in a cycle of constantly dying, like Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow. Spawns=broken.
Quitters: There should be a penalty. 1/3 of every match I'm in (solo guy speaking again), people start dropping like flies at the first hint of losing, sometimes as the first 1000 points is made. There is nothing worse that sticking out a game when it's 6 Jump-sniping 1080 no scope no land beyond diabetics in a fireteam versus me and the only remaining blueberry. I stick it out, angily, hoping for an end of round drop......
WHICH BARELY -blam!-ING EXIST!!! Last, but not least, the crucible remains as unrewarding as ever. Endgame legendary drops are egregiously infrequent, and when they do occur, you have to wade through weapons with exhumed in every perk slot. Thankfully, bungie thought about that and gave us crucible faction packages and weekly bounties, so now I can grind for my 100,000,000th class item from Shaxx and a chance at a sweet ghost shell from the weekly (or a Times of Need with exhumed in every slot).
Edits: fixed part about TTK. I meant high TTK. Thanks for pointing that out.
Some people can't read. That's okay. The world needs more sandwich artists.
In all of this, I only asked for one nerf, and I was to stow/equip times on snipers.
Telling me to simply "git gud" implies that you guys are happy with p2p connections.
Yes, I'm a crucible casual trying to "git gud" after being a pve player since launch. If you think that the crucible should only cater to people with 2.0 KDs, then you don't know what it takes to make a video game exist for more than three months. Besides, without average players like me, everyone would have a 1.0 KD. Don't bite the hand that feeds.

Snipers. Passive play... Most frustrating thing, especially when going against a team and they can call out the positions.
