As I do my grimiore grinding, it has become apparent that the crucible is pretty miserable and unfun lately. They tried too hard to undo the year one metas and created a total mess. Here is a list of reasons:
Server issues:
- Hit registration is total crap for almost everything. Melees are a little better but hand canons are barely viable and there are still disappearing shotgun pellets and fusion rifle bolts all the time, which brings to the second point...
- Latency. There is nothing worse than unloading three hammers or golden gun rounds into a person, have them melee you once and you die at full health, then they run away and "die" from your super five seconds later. While this is an extreme example, the latency from the time it takes damage referee to decide who won often puts you at a disadvantage in a fast paced game.
- Red bar warriors. They are still a thing.
Weapon Balance:
- There is little choice in the game. With hundreds of guns that the art department and design team put so much work into, there are surprisingly few of them that are viable. Choosing to have a "fun" loadout for a casual such as myself is the difference between a 1.6 game and a 0.3 game.
In general, primary weapons (with a few powerful exceptions) have such high TTKs, you often end up putting a lot of effort into an opponent only for them to evade and regenerate. It only makes sense that players gravitate to faster killing methods.
- Hand cannons are crap. I want to like them, but between the intentional "bloom" and hit registration issues, they are lackluster at best due to their way too frequent "ghost bullets". Plus, the shots to kill between high impact and medium impact hand cannons are no different, making low ROF hand cannons an unwise choice.
- Auto rifles (I know, right...well, here we go). High ROF autos are one of the few weapons in Destiny that have almost no drawback. As long as you have the right stability perks, range falloff has so little effect, that they remain as effective at mid range as most other primaries, despite being billed as close range weapon, both by the stats and bungie's own assertion. Additionally, the amount of damage all those bullets make staggers opponents, so as to make fighting back impossible once you've been hit . (I remember Bungie saying something about the Mida and stagger....) Medium ROF auto rifles are well balanced.
- Scout rifles and pulse rifles are mostly balanced, but within those types, most people will choose Mida, hawsaw, or grasp since they are standouts in an otherwise fair to mediocre weapon type. Pulse rifles were hardest hit with the Nirwen's archetype bring demoted to a three-banger without a commensurate increase in ROF.
- Snipers........Bungie described them perfectly as one-shot close to medium range battle rifles. In a game that is supposed to be about making choices regarding your loadout, a la paper-rock-scissors, snipers are all three. They are the counter to everything:
- Someone with a sniper? Snipe them.
- Someone slide shotgunning to you? Snipe them.
- Shoulder charge? Snipe them.
- Roaming Super? Snipe them.
- Fist of havoc? Snipe them.
- Someone with rockets? Snipe them.
- Someone with machine gun? Snipe them.
- Just got meleed? Snipe them.
- Losing a gunfight? Snipe them.
If you are the least bit familiar with YouTube, you can find examples of all of those, and in your daily gameplay and on the forums. Since year 2 started, someone has always answered complaints about everything from stormcaller to sunbreaker with "Bro, just snipe them." Snipers are the one tool that is good at all ranges, in all situations with very little to no downside. It's like they are a tool with multiple uses.....
....Which reminds me that Mida's high caliber rounds and marginally effective hand cannons were the only good counter to snipers, and the absence of both (this week's Dis-47 package notwithstanding), has left a vacuum for snipers to run wild and unchecked. Maybe bungie likes all the trick shots on youtube.
Restore pulse rifles and fix hand cannon registration and i think most of the imbalance will go away. My only suggested change should be a very slow equip and stow time for snipers, to make "body-shot-primary" combo less of a cheap tactic.
Enough about weapons.
Let's talk spawns....Yup, the spawn are annoying as -blam!-. It's even worse for solo players like myself when fireteams exploit destiny's shitty spawn system. The maps have been around so long that no-lifes have pretty much mastered the art of spawn-trapping, spawn-sniping, or coordinated spawn flipping leaving the recipients trapped in a cycle of constantly dying, like Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow. Spawns=broken.
Quitters: There should be a penalty. 1/3 of every match I'm in (solo guy speaking again), people start dropping like flies at the first hint of losing, sometimes as the first 1000 points is made. There is nothing worse that sticking out a game when it's 6 Jump-sniping 1080 no scope no land beyond diabetics in a fireteam versus me and the only remaining blueberry. I stick it out, angily, hoping for an end of round drop......
WHICH BARELY -blam!-ING EXIST!!! Last, but not least, the crucible remains as unrewarding as ever. Endgame legendary drops are egregiously infrequent, and when they do occur, you have to wade through weapons with exhumed in every perk slot. Thankfully, bungie thought about that and gave us crucible faction packages and weekly bounties, so now I can grind for my 100,000,000th class item from Shaxx and a chance at a sweet ghost shell from the weekly (or a Times of Need with exhumed in every slot).
Edits: fixed part about TTK. I meant high TTK. Thanks for pointing that out.
Some people can't read. That's okay. The world needs more sandwich artists.
In all of this, I only asked for one nerf, and I was to stow/equip times on snipers.
Telling me to simply "git gud" implies that you guys are happy with p2p connections.
Yes, I'm a crucible casual trying to "git gud" after being a pve player since launch. If you think that the crucible should only cater to people with 2.0 KDs, then you don't know what it takes to make a video game exist for more than three months. Besides, without average players like me, everyone would have a 1.0 KD. Don't bite the hand that feeds.

Dude I don't even try anymore, I just do my bounties, whether it's Crucible, CoE, or whatever and switch to Fallout 4. I don't grind anything, I don't raid, I don't farm, it's not worth my time.

I would be remiss not to include one of these here: OP is complaining about PvP? Check OP going on long ramble about how it's everyone, and everything, ELSE to blame for his lack of skill? Check OP has negative KD's on all characters? Check OP mains a Hunter? Check Huntard confirmed

The Crucible now is more balanced than it has ever been - anyone who PvP's longer than five minutes will see that. As for Hand Cannons? I went Flawless at the weekend using one, so they really aren't that bad. As for no choice? Now I know you have no idea what you are talking about! There is more choice now than EVER before. Just looking at Primaries: Scout rifles are in a great place (Mida, Raid scout, Jade Rabbit, Gunsmith scout rifles etc), Auto Rifles are much more balanced now (Doctrine is still good, but not as OP as it was, again Gunsmith for the AR, Haakons from IB etc), Pulse Rifles are in amazing shape for the fast RoF ones (vendor Hawksaw anyone?) and there are many decent Hand Cannons available too (Her Revenge, Elusyana etc) - all of these are Primaries more than capable of mixing it up and doing well PvP - one just has to adjust one's own style according to weapon choice Pretty much the only thing you got right in your post was the lag - p2p matchmaking will always suffer problems But let's be honest, you didn't need to write an essay complaining how 'broken' the World is, just to say 'there is bad lag in PvP'

1 ReplyCrucible sucks to me right now because of the lack of teamwork. Too many people either don't care or don't have a clue about objectives or working together as a team. Even in my experience in a fireteam, there is a lot of finger pointing and people that think their way of doing things is always the best. Pub stomping doesn't look very fun either. I do play for fun. But losing, being spawn trapped and constant 1v3's is not fun. I could tolerate all other flaws of crucible if there was just decent teamwork. Grinding for shitty gear from crucible packages is the icing on a stale bitter shitcake. I have tried being positive and patient for quite a while. It all just seems to be getting worse. Frustrated and fed up. Time to put Destiny aside for a while and I'm a little sad about it.

2 RepliesReally nice watching my k/d drop after each day. While the weapon issues are a thing, my biggest issue is with the red bar warriors/latency. Chucking a sol hammer and then getting melee'd and then seeing the guy I hammered die about 2-3 seconds later. Red bar warriors teleporting here/there/everywhere. -blam!-ing irritating. Played a couple matches this past IB where everyone in the lobby had red bars. I'd like to play crucible more however these issues make me not want to play at all. And on top of all this, the RNG for crucible matches is so broke. I played 3 matches straight yesterday and got nothing. Not even MoL or blue engrams. Meanwhile everyone on my team got stuff. How does this even make sense?

Besides buffing legendary hand cannons Think it's a really balanced Although maybe 2 heavies a match

Let this defeat be a lesson, only the strong survive. Lord shaxx

Edited by B: 6/6/2016 9:20:49 PMPvp feels so much funner when you just mess around. Granted you still get frustrating games where all thats wrong with the crucible seem to stack in the enemies favor, but it definitely lessens the sting when you take it with a grain of salt (pun intended.) I've had some of my most enjoyable, and best, games using test weapons, only melee'ing, and just running around like a madman with the stand asides on.

2 RepliesDestiny PvP has lost ALL appeal, I'd rather play CoD now....ugh
-
I wish I would have done all my crucible grimoire in year 1. Salvage is a sweatfest.
-
Don't forget these people... http://youtu.be/wFF6MRfbaDI
-
I just hate the red bars.
-
The only thing I'm really having a problem with in crucible is the primary TTK (time to kill), that's why snipers are considered "OP"
-
The only thing about the Crucible that drives me crazy is the bullet cone on hand cannons. It shouldn't exist. It is the only weapon in Destiny that behaves that way. If my feet are on the ground, and I'm ADS, the bullet should go where I'm pointing. Simple as that. That being said, I picked up the vendor Appelant III and it's treating me well on the closer range maps.
-
They should just make the sensitivity low and the same across all sniper scopes, so they become ineffective at a close range quick scope area.
-
Remove the "cone" effect on hand cannons. Lessen the flinch on high rate autos and the crucible will be fine
-
Dude I agree about snipers countering most everything in the game. And also you can't consistently even switch weapons to have fun and keep things fresh because the people on Destiny try SO. -blam!-ING. HARRRRRRRD. with their top tier weapons 100% of the time (I smack all of them with the grasp of malok, invective combo) but it's not fun just using the same guns all the time. HALF the fun for me in destiny is the thrill of farming, raiding, and hoping for that new gun to wreck face with in crucible. Over all, I think bungie, the deaf turtle, needs to go to connection based match making while we patiently wait for new content.
-
Idk man.... I'm just as average as you but I've been having no issues other than getting crappy mates ._. Sure I have the occasion bad match but that's about it .--.

Destiny has become PVP. I haven't played PVP in 6 months because I cannot tolerate the lag, especially deliberate lag. So, I quit. Don't regret it. But, PVP has now negatively affected my PVE game. That was a very big mistake. One, Destiny will not recover from in my house! I bought a PVE game where PVP was to train Guardians for PVE. That's not Destiny now, so, I'm out on any future paid content. I don't do 'bait and switch' twice! Ask yourself why you tolerate it after you read your own essay! It's very clear you should walk away. There are much better PVP games available today than this crock...
-
I agree with a lot of what you said except for sniper rifles. The issues with snipers stem from the primary ttk. No matter the game players will "git gud" with snipers and try to trick shot. Every player is going to push their weapons limits to the extreme. Players have had two years to practice. Every special weapon type is more than viable.
-
I get you man. I enjoy Destiny for the gameplay that it has, but any day of the week I would choose Titanfall over it if I wanted to get into PvP. Despite what others would say, I truly believe that I had far more fun in the Crucible back during HoW in spite of the Big Three handcannon Meta. Pulse rifles felt like they were pretty decent back then and legendary handcannons also handled pretty well too.

Edited by Dark Raven 2501: 6/6/2016 11:49:45 AMSo the crucible is broken ha Pve is broken because of asshole like you & PVP dicks.
-
Could not be bothered reading. Have not played destiny in a month but I still agree anyways :D
-
Yea, so much lag now. Only about 30-35% of the matches I get into now are not totally riddled with lag. Its no fun when you go around a corner see an enemy hit punch like 3 times and it does not register then you die without even seeing a shot fired by the enemy. Or you see a guy down range wide open, unload an entire clip on him see every shot clearly hit but 2 seconds later you see his shields and health only get down to 50%. Or you see a guy looking at you and you die from his stare then right as your body falls over you hear the shots. Lol gotta love the lag.

PvP is ok. Leave it alone
