And if you get six kills before your timer runs out, you get a seventh for that elusive, impossible-to-achieve-with-Striker 7th Column.

Defenders are supposed to be close range? They have a bubble to hide in. Strikers are the ones designed to rush and assault. Yeah it can kill in one hit. But it has to be charged and timed. Warlocks get shields without a kill, and hunters can throw stuff. Leave them alone. Each class has strengths.
