Same race as darth plageous and his face is all messed up. Could quite possibly be when palpatine killed him. He brought himself back to life. Because at that time he was on the cusp of learning the power of bringing people back to life. Also it's not like he died a long long time ago he died right before palpatine took over the Senate

If we are still considering Plagueis to be a Muun, then they are not the same race. Snoke looks nothing like a Muun.

Another source of evidence is when we see snoke the same music plays from revenge of the sith where palpatine tells the story of his former master. Also kylo ren referrs to snoke as very wise and darth plageous was known as the wise one

I'll give you the point about the music, but Snoke's head is nothing like that of a Muun. A Muun's head is tall, thin and long, and (at least in the movies) lacking a nose. Snoke's head is somewhat deformed, but it is much shorter and rounder, and Snoke has a nose. If you want a good reference there are images of Snoke that were just released online. So unless Disney plans to contradict the previous movies, Snoke can't be a Muun. That said, they could choose to make Plagueis a different species, since his species is no longer canon.
