This was the most well written thing I've seen out of you, Boom. And you're absolutely 100% on the money. Especially regarding the influx of toxicity inherent in an ultra-competitive playlist being introduced. I'm looking at you, Trials of Osiris. There are some good points on the balance forums, though, and even though no one wants a nerf-herder to be correct...sometimes, they are. Look at the Sunbreaker. Look at Thorn at the peak of Hand Cannon dominance before 2.0 dropped. I will say though, at this time, aside from my innate dislike of shotguns, the Crucible is actually quite balanced. I've been killed by a variety of weapons now, as opposed to just dying to Pulse Rifles before this last patch. I'm seeing a lot of snipers out there, now. And while people will get frustrated that they'll turn a corner and get domed by a Her Benevolence(guys, stop using Her Aim-Assist Crutch), I find I actually like it. It teaches me sight lines, encourages improved reaction times, better casing of my surroundings, and overall, it helps me improve my game.
I would honestly like to see Bungie rework this forum. Something that allows the entire community to express themselves, but at the same time, provide some good evidence to back a claim that there's something that needs to be worked on. Something to ensure that it's not a cancerous sea of crybabies who can't handle a loss. Making the community better starts with us, the community.

Give it... about two weeks. I guarantee that Scout and Pulse Rifles will take over again. Then Scout Rifles will get hammered. Here's my problem: Bungie doesn't take the simple route when balancing, nor do they use any kind of discretion. Instead of treating each individual weapon (especially Exotics) on a case by case basis, they've done blanket nerfs that have rendered entire weapon classes useless. However, their bungling of the Auto Rifles in this latest patch, was the straw that broke the camel's back. They LIED OUTRIGHT, and that cannot be allowed to stand. Right now, I have tabs open for every set of patch notes regarding weapon balance. I'm going to take this as far as I can run with it, and recalculate all of weapon balancing from scratch, to ensure as close to flawless counter play between weapons and Supers as possible. I have one idea for PvP that honestly should have been implemented from the word go, when Destiny first dropped. I want this game fixed, and I want these nerf-herders put in their place once and for all.

I read some of the articles regarding the inaccuracy of the values that were adjusted on a couple of these prior patches. Again, at this time, I see this as a lot more balanced. Pulse and Scouts are still exemplary, especially MIDA and Hawksaw. But there's still a good variety of weapons...there's only one thing I want adjusted: Imprecation. That whole questline is impossible.

Edited by Boomstick1911: 12/15/2015 1:12:29 AMThe patch just came out. It's the same thing we see every time: We get a honeymoon phase where there are a bunch of weapons being tested, and then when Trials rolls around, we'll start seeing 1-2 weapons rise up. Those weapons are going to be Pulse Rifles and Scout Rifles. Also, let's not forget that Fusion Rifles are still in a piss poor state. I've seen how they handle now since the update; it's utterly disgusting what was done to them.
-
True. Fusion rifles get no love unless its name is Vex Mythoclast. I'd like to think that the honeymoon phase doesn't last for more than a couple days. So I just keep playing 3v3 with the same loadout (I'm currently working with the Hovey loadout), seeing if I can spot a consistency in what kills me. So far it's Shotguns, Snipers, and Scouts and Pulse.

Same as before, basically. I haven't had a chance to get this damned TV mounted on the wall and hooked up, so I haven't played in weeks. Still, would you agree that weapons should be examined individually, rather than overbearing nerfs that ruin entire classes of weapon?
-
I agree, but at this point you still have to take the entire weapon class as a whole and fix it.

Edited by Boomstick1911: 12/15/2015 1:36:11 AMExcept that there's nothing wrong with the weapon class as a whole, at least not in any of the cases I have seen. Hand Cannons are a prime example of this: Hawkmoon and Thorn were the two standout weapons in the class (I don't consider TLW to be in that tier, because it was glitched and went unfixed), and rightfully so, being Exotics. My biggest issue was Thorn, because it's literally the ONLY thing I have seen in this game that can give a player that much control over not only a single engagement, but even the entire match. Having the ability to burn your opponent with every shot... making them run, and CONSTANTLY having to fight on your terms... that weapon, beyond a shadow of a doubt, fundamentally changed the way Crucible was played. No other weapon, or even entire weapon class has done that yet, and I doubt it ever will. Having one or two stand out weapons that everyone uses is no excuse to blanket nerf a crapload of legendary weapons, and make the weapon class as a whole useless. It's lazy design work and a total cop out.
-
My issue with Hand Cannons back then, was their range and lack of dropoff.
-
Yet, would they really have been broken, if Auto Rifles hadn't been hit so hard, so many times?
-
They would not have been broken if they were made for the intended range.
-
I think they would have been fine if Auto Rifles had still been a contender. Here's another question: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/180134142
