This game came out over a decade ago. And it had a larger and more interesting open world.
It had actual secrets. Not crap that was time gated and not the Bullshit carrot that Bungivsion holds In front of our noses.
Just thought I should put that out there.
Edit: I'd also like to add jet force Gemini
Three playable classes with several different planets to explore

5 RepliesEdited by Senor Crouch: 11/7/2015 6:19:47 AMI'd like to add to this conversation by illustrating something about Destiny. Remember in OoT when you claimed the Master Sword, you became older and you were tripping out because of it? Then remember after the event you actually stepped foot outside the Temple of Time to see everything in utter ruin and devastation? Remember how emotionally lost and confused you were? "My God, how did this happen...and are those Zombies in the courtyard!? What the hell happened here!?" It was like stepping into a nightmare. In some cases some of you felt sick as you asked yourself what happened to this once bustling and happy town? Now imagine the same thing happened to the last safe city on Earth or the Reef in Destiny. What would be our reactions? Would it be to laugh? Shrug our shoulders? Some of us might actually get emotional and ask, "Is Cayde okay?" Some might even get mad that the Cryptarch and/or Xur wasn't part of the casualties. Would we turn it into a joke? Would we feel indifferent about it or see how many memes we could extract from it? But you can start to see my point. In one world we had emotional investment, we felt like we were a part of the world. In the other you feel detached from almost everything and are never given the chance to actually become invested in any of the characters or the world around you. A few exceptions apply (Cayde, Sweeper Robot, Randal, Elevator Cabal).

4 RepliesI guess people are already getting bored with all the new "Destiny killer" games that just came out, and they are back here at the Destiny forums again complaining about how great Destiny isn't. And it was so nice and quiet in here for those 3 or 4 days that Destiny was "dead".

9 Replies/Rant Destiny has a lot going for it but it's only just slightly better than crap for a couple reasons: It's not popular because it's a high-quality game that does everything right. It's popular because its simple and because they designed it to be as addicting as possible. It's got "open world gameplay" but frankly the open world is just -blam!-ing empty. There aren't really many easter eggs, there's nothing really cool you can find if you put the time in and search every nook and cranny. The story (though ever-so-slightly improved by TTK. Is still a boring mess. The good lore (what little there is) is tied up in shitty cards that you have to read one by one online. I remember when I played the Halo games, I was OBSESSED with the lore and I loved it. I read the books, theories, every little snippet I could find in the games themselves. Did all the Easter eggs.... Here its practically empty. Hell I've heard fan theories about what's really going on that are so damn cool and engaging and then I look at what they've given us and I think ".... yeah no they aren't smart enough to give us something that cool" But what frustrates me the most. What REALLY breaks my -blam!-ing balls, is the kind of people this game attracts. I'm talking about the people that don't give two shit's about what crap the developers try to pull- be it selling on-disk content or starting up microtransactions, or selling the game with a butchered story. They just smile and say "take my money!" Does anyone remember gaming just like... 5 or 6 years ago? I remember when I saw microtransactions in a CONSOLE game for the first time and I want: wait WHAT!? Now it's considered fine apparently. And I'll tell you what boys and girls: shit's just gonna get worse. Those of you who let these companies walk all over you? You're eternally -blam!-ed. You're -blam!-ed and you're dragging the rest of us down with you. Destiny 2 will have more microtransactions and more of the "more money for less game" bs that you've come to love here. and for -blam!-'s sake: JUST BECAUSE YOU ENJOY PLAYING A GAME DOESNT MEAN YOU CANT CRITICIZE IT TOO. look at my hours played if you don't believe me. /end rant

1 ReplyEdited by MrParadox002: 11/7/2015 6:53:14 AMDestiny technically doesn't have any sort of open world, obviously Patrols are the closest things to that but they don't work quite the same way. Regardless it takes more time to travel from one point of Earth patrol to the other then it dose to go from Hyrule fields to the castle then to Koriki village or even other parts of the map.

2 RepliesDaggerfall came out in 95 and had the largest game world ever, that's the trade off, graphical quality vs map size.
-
1 ReplyI liked the world concept in red faction guerrilla wars (the one on Mars)

As far as seemless open world, I would say.. Jack and Daxter has the biggest seemless Open World. Granted, there were loading screen, IF you used the portal and right before a cut scene. And all three games were really big. -
It seemed big and was very impressive until you have to walk everywhere or ride a slow as horse. Destiny has vehicles lol. Btw I love Ocarina of time
-
True. But to look at more current games like GTA 5 or even 5 years ago with skyrim. Destiny doesn't have 1/10th of the map size of those games.

2 RepliesOg gamers still remember the strat to beat the twinrova sister witches.

2 RepliesMan, if Nintendo came out with a normal console I'd be all over it. They need to stop with that nunchaku stuff or whatever they call it. Zelda, now thats a game.
