Columbus enslaved all the Indians on the island and worked them to death mining gold. Women were made sex slaves. The demand was high for 9-10 year old girls. They killed babies and used them as dog food. There's more but that's the stuff that stuck out to me

So we should just never tell kids that some historical figures were bad people? You don't have get super specific, I thought schools were actually supposed to teach kids, not preserve a biased narrative from the 1950's.

I'm saying that you can teach your children whatever the -blam!- you want to teach them. You can force them to celebrate whatever stupid holiday you want.. or not. I don't see what the big deal is. Unless your kids are homeschooled then it is up to the state/country to educate them, that education is supposed to be based on facts, by having a national holiday the country is showing it's support for the celebration of a mass muderer, there is something wrong with that.
