Columbus enslaved all the Indians on the island and worked them to death mining gold. Women were made sex slaves. The demand was high for 9-10 year old girls. They killed babies and used them as dog food. There's more but that's the stuff that stuck out to me

And we wouldn't be where we are today without it. People did all kinds of terrible things. They still do. Cry.

Edited by Dunbrack Rooney: 10/14/2015 4:43:02 PMIt's not that he did terrible shit it's that we're expected to celebrate him, it's like having a Hitler day.

We shouldn't have a Hitler Day, just like we shouldn't have a Columbus Day.
-
We have a lot of stupid days to celebrate stupid shit all the time. No one is forcing you to celebrate shit.
-
No, but it is obviously encouraged. Even if it is meaningless I still think it's telling in that it shows how willing we are to whitewash history.
-
History as a child is taught very differently than history as an adult. Get over it.
-
So we should just never tell kids that some historical figures were bad people? You don't have get super specific, I thought schools were actually supposed to teach kids, not preserve a biased narrative from the 1950's.
-
Where the -blam!- have you been your whole life? I suppose under a rock. Do you have children?
-
Are you saying that we already do? Or are you saying that we can't teach kids that?
-
I'm saying that you can teach your children whatever the -blam!- you want to teach them. You can force them to celebrate whatever stupid holiday you want.. or not. I don't see what the big deal is. You aren't being forced to not know truths in our history. Your not being forced to celebrate shit, ever. Now what?
-
Unless your kids are homeschooled then it is up to the state/country to educate them, that education is supposed to be based on facts, by having a national holiday the country is showing it's support for the celebration of a mass muderer, there is something wrong with that.
-
Edited by CAMMCAM: 10/15/2015 6:12:58 PMThat's the stupidest shit I've ever heard. Because someone isn't homeschooled means that a parent can't teach their children truths? It's up to the state's education system to solely educate children on what isn't depicted in schools for obvious reasons? LOL

Wait until Trump Day. The day Trump deports the Mexicans
