I know people are expecting a big review, this isn't it. Honestly it may be a day or two because i haven't scratched the surface of 2.0 yet, but I did want to put up my early impressions and see how my experience has compared to others.
So I got home from work tonight and headed to the Tower first. My initial Tower impressions:
New vault looks nice.
Declaring allegiance was cool... Right up until it gave me a quest to wear all my faction gear lol.
Shader collection is cool.
Exotic weapon vault. Red Death and Juju... And no MIDA.
Exotic armor vault. No Armamentarium.
It seems so arbitrary what's ascending and what isn't. Why do some keep playing with their normal exotic setup and others have to start from scratch?
Other than that, the Tower is whatever. Gunsmith updates tomorrow I believe and everything else (outside of collections) is mostly the same for now.
So I debated trying missions and checking out the north ghost, but opted for PvP instead.
First match entered map I've seen once in elimination (Widow's Court), joined the match down by 10000. Thought that sheet wasn't supposed to happen now. Died like 4 times (all Pulse Rifles) and we got mercy ruled.
Second match was on the Dungeon. Map was decent saw a couple ARs which was nice, but Pulse Rifles are everywhere now.
Realized this match that they gimped all our intelligence, strength and discipline bonuses. Should have realized it I suppose, but it was still a shock how long grenades take to recharge now. Kept trying to throw them on the internal timer I have of when they're usually ready and they'd be half charged. Going to be an adjustment for sure.
Next match was on Crossroads- and this is the map I finally saw a Hand Cannon. Went up against Thorn and they might as well have been shooting me with a no impact AR circa 2 days ago.
I still don't like that people needed to nerf Thorn to stop it. All these Pulse Rifles you're destroying with have always destroyed people, takes Nerfing weapons to get people to try new things though.
The map itself was probably my favorite I played tonight, never really got a grasp on any of the new ones, but Crossroads was at least more open a layout than were used to seeing from Bungie.
Tried staying with the group after the match because I thought I heard there will be some reason we'll want to... And it disbanded everyone because it said it was too lopsided.
I thought that was kinda stupid because if I'm waiting 26 seconds instead of just backing out and re-queueing what's the point to get disbanded?
Next match I played was Bastion(!) I know right! Was interesting seeing it reappear.
What was even more interesting was getting Rockets 3 times and getting exactly one rocket kill with Gjally.
I've used Gjally in PvP for 6 months and this is not the same weapon.
Got Rockets three times the next match on The Drifter and got one rocket kill. In fact at one point I shot two enemies with Gjally, landed the rocket directly between them and didn't kill either one.
Originally wrote Fusion Rifles are dead because Plug One is so inconsistent now, but omg Plan C is returned to its full glory. Not sure how Thorn gets nerfed and Plan C gets buffed, but I'm going to enjoy using it until people get it nerfed.
So five matches and I saw one Hand Cannon (Thorn) and it sucked, got a total of 2 rocket kills with what used to be the best PvP RL in the game. Beyond that ttks seemed the same as before, just with different weapons.
That's my quick impression, tired as hell. Peace.
*Edited out TLW, didn't know it ascended when I originally made the post.

Get used to it bruh

2 RepliesGjallarorn isn't dead, man. It still kicks major ass in vangaurd, nightfall, and weekly.
-
9 RepliesLol I got 28 and 25 kills with hard light and nechrochasm quit your whine sauce... And learn to use other guns
-
1 ReplyGhorns not dead me a couple buddy's used in on skolas yes it took a little longer than usually but not that bad thorn needed a nerf but I think they nerfed it too much and I've never used last word so I'm not sure of the difference
-
I mean... I've been enjoying more variety in pvp. Sucked getting killed by the same 4 weapons every game for 8 months. I also don't use gjallarhorn often enough to be bothered by that nerf. That's just my perspective though. I know a lot of people who used gjally every day and... they actually haven't been saying anything negative. Everything feels nicer since tuesday.

good riddance to them all.

2 RepliesWith the legnth of the download I haven't had a chance to play PvP yet to verify 2.0 changes. Hopefully I can jump in tonight. I am not an avid Thorn user but I will when everyone else does or the team build is lopsided. However I was tired of playing against the peekaboo Thorn players, you know the 2 shot and duck routine. So I ran a couple of matches with comparible kills using Thorn. Engaging the enemy and hiding while 2 shotting peekaboo (camping a hallway midway between 2 doors) strategies Results were with 19 killes each match Engaging 1.5 k/d, Peekaboo 4.67 k/d I can see why players do it, but it was not anywhere near as fun or challenging. Kind of a turkey shoot as players either passed bye or tried to enter either doorway.

I think what they do to nert every gun!! Because they want you to buy the Fxxking DLC right now!! That's reason why they nert Year one weapons on this carp 2.0 update!!!

2 RepliesPoint of reduced blast radius on RL's was so you would learn to use one effectively aside from getting proximity, which the max detonation radius was indeed large, AND was to emphasize MG use. Maybe you see 1 HC was because everyone trying new stuff? I've seen gameplay, it isn't that bad from the looks of it for some guns, like TLW makes people use it like it should have been used and made for-CQC combat. Also, WHY would anyone use Gjallerhorn in crucible? Complete waste of a slot.
-
Gjallahorn is a terrible pvp choice for heavy, and it's hardly the best pvp launcher.
-
TLW is still good. You just can't snipe with it anymore.
-
5 RepliesThat's what you get when you abuse a power. It's the Thorn and TLW users fault. Go cry some more.
-
2 Repliesghorn isnt the best pvp rocket but whatever lol
-
5 RepliesLet the salt run through you.
-
Rip Gjallarhorn. Thorn is still good imo. Haven't tried tlw.
-
3 Replies-blam!- your pussy ass thorn
-
9 RepliesForgive me I can't remember the official name but the fusion rifle you obtain from the gunsmith that you can test in the crucible is pretty darn good. I'm happy my Fatebringer still seems relevant when it needs to be
-
Thorn has been reasonably nerfed but TLW is still deadly as -blam!-.
-
They get nerfed but those 3 weapons are still good. I still play thorn and LW on PvP and I think they're just a bit more balanced in comparison of other weapons.
-
Very happy!
-
2 RepliesGhorn is noticeably weaker ye but it's still a damn powerful and useful weapon
-
Also TLW ascends stupid get your facts right
-
Hand Cannons including Thorn and TLW still hit like trucks and Ghorn still hits like a truck
-
1 ReplyFrom what I played, everything actually felt pretty reasonably balanced. Thorn no longer dominates engagements, but that should never have been its purpose; DoT leaves an enemy disabled for longer before shield regen, so it becomes the perfect hit-and-run weapon. The hand cannons I used (Timur's and Word of Crota) felt fine; Timur's now basically takes 3 shots unless they've left their armor way too low, but the high impact means a longer effective range for those shots. Plus my old Up For Anything is back to the beast it once was.
-
Fusions felt great. Gjallajorn is still good. Still arguably the most powerful rocket launcher. Tracking hasn't changed for me. They nerfed grenades and horseshoes which was well needed imo. Just not nearly as good. Needed the need imo. Last is going into year 2. Also depressed about the MIDA. I love the weapon update. Thorn is still good at closer ranges. The DOT was nerfed which was well needed imo. I'm loving the update so far

7 RepliesI love the fact that I can play PVP now and not see all hand cannons. People are using different guns and its fantastic.
