Putting a cap on the marks is to stop people hoarding marks and buying everything when something new comes out. Is it an inconvenience? A little perhaps. I would say that unlimited mark earning and shared marks outweigh the inconvenience of having to go back now and then. If anything I would suggest a compromise in maximum increase to 300 marks.

  • Cool. In my glimmer analogy would you be good with a glimmer bank limit of 3000?

It's a slightly different scenario though given that the items that you can buy with glimmer are far more disposable, lower in cost and more essential. If however you take your scenario and scale the items down to match the new cap. The most logical way would be to convert the 3000 as a ratio of the current glimmer cap which is 12%. That would mean that the Petra ship (which is the most expensive glimmer item in the game?) is now 2100 glimmer. Heavy ammo is 114 glimmer, green level weapons are around 100 glimmer. For fairness of comparison we'll leave the rate of acquisition the same (since marks are actually likely to increase the rate of gain) which means you'd probably cap out quite quickly. The difference here is that you are far less likely to spend glimmer in large chunks or even at all at the moment (this may change in TTK however). If there was a desirable item though where you want to frequently spend 75% of your glimmer and that losing the excess meant a lot, then maybe I would be more concerned. As it stands there isn't, hence why glimmer is not an exact comparison. In the interest of comparison 1200>200 is 16% so it'd be more like a 4000 glimmer cap. And unlike glimmer you are unlikely to earn 200 marks without a break (that's 33.3 Crucible wins at 6 marks?), can't remember how many marks you get for a strike playlist but your bags will be full before you cap out. I understand people's concerns, but you have to look at it from a game design perspective. The alternative is that when they bring out new content, they wipe marks or switch them to a new currency again (not to say they they won't but with limitations, the need to do this is much less). I do agree that 200 seems a bit low (but not unworkable), but at the same time, unlimited is definitely unhealthy so perhaps enough for two weapons before recharging - 300, 350?

  • I appreciate you taking the time for your reply. My goal with the glimmer analogy was to get people thinking. I simply took the 200 Mark cap times 10 to 2000 and said the most expensive item would be 1500 or 10 times the most expensive Marks item. For you as you were fine with 300 marks, I made it 3000. I agree that glimmer is less likely to be spent in large chunks, but I had seen that as a weakness for my argument, not against, and was willing to coincide it. I was willing to do this because I felt people had a better understanding of glimmer and had some negative experience with the current cap. I'm glad to see you realize that you will likely cap out quickly on marks. This forces more frequent trips to the tower to buy gear. It means less of an ability do PvE and PvP without the interruption of gear shopping. Players and Bungie alike appear to understand the value of less frequent tower trips. This, ostensibly, is why Bungie is adding the ability to claim bounties without returning to the tower. Would you be OK returning to the tower after doing 5 things like strikes, PvP rounds, or missions? How about after every one? At what point, for you, would frequent trips to the tower become "unworkable?" This is the biggest reason for my concern. From a design perspective I understand there are challenges. I feel that those should be manged by the developer rather than the player having to manage this issue constantly. The player having to manage this constantly constitutes design failure, IMHO. If we, as players, don't speak out against these types of choices from our developer they will likely continue to go this lazy route. I , for one, don't want them offloading there workload to me, the player. Again, I just want to say thank you to you. I appreciate the thought and time you put into your reply. It would be great If the majority of players would think and share their thoughts in the same way.

  • I fully agree that it is something that Bungie are aware of - adding artificial play time; it's not the first time and certainly not the last. With the bounties this was recognised as you say, but doesn't face the same sort of issues and so they can easily make these changes without fear of future repercussions. I can't say that I know for sure why they made the cap so low, and if it was made that way to accommodate future plans and thwart stockpiling (a la Xur coins - I'm surprised that they haven't reset these, although the weapon per week limits this 'progression'). I would agree that 200 seems a little small. There are reasons of course, as discussed and by the sounds of it, you understand as well even if you dislike them. I would like a higher but not stupid cap. But I would also say that currently it's not a huge concern for me right now and I doubt it will impact me that much. There is of course no right or wrong answer to this as it entirely depends on each person's play style/length of playing. Thanks for your replies as well - I'll change my vote to we'll see as a consequence.
