I had the pleasure of defeating Skolas last night in the level 35 PoE encounter. It took a while, but was well worth it. It wasn't that hard once you figure out the strategy. My fireteam consisted of one character of each class. I have listed the basic mechanics, and then a guide as well that makes the fight pretty easy.
It's Solar burn, so make sure to have abyss defiant, black hammer, vision of confluence, etc...
Here is a simply layout of the mechanics of the encounter:
1. Servitor Buff
-Upon entering the arena there are servitors that spawn, they have a glow to them so they are distinguishable.
-Once you kill a servitor, the servitor bonds will be weakened for 20 seconds, which is basically when Skolas can take damage.
-If you do not get Skolas below 50% health before that time expires, you will have to kill another servitor to gain another 20 seconds of the servitors bonds being weakened.
-Once you get Skolas below 50% health, the servitor bonds are broken and Skolas will take normal damage the rest of the time.
2. Devouring Essence
-Once Skolas reaches 50% health a random firteam will receive a debuff called Devouring Essence for 30 seconds.
-This is kind of like the thorn burn. It will kill you once the 30 seconds is up unless another member of your firteam comes over to you and holds x (on Xbone) and takes the debuff for himself (kinda like the chalice of light).
-Once the debuff is taken off of you, you are immune for 30 seconds, which means you cannot take the debuff off your fireteam member until the immunity wears off. This calls for precise coordination between you and your fireteam members.
-The debuff stays with you until the end of the fight.
3. Splinter Mines
-On top of the Devouring Essence, at 50% health, you will have to defuse 3 splinter mines, failing to defuse any of them will casue your fireteam to wipe.
-Another wave of splinter mines will appear when Skolas reaches 25% health.
-After you kill Skolas, and defuse the splinter mines, the encounter is over and you can return to airlock and drop down to the treasure chest room to obtain your loot.
Here is our strategy that seemed to be the easiest and work the best:
-Upon entering the arena, all three members go left and kill the first servitor.
-Have a titan pop a bubble with weapons of light.
-Unload 7 gjallarhorn rockets at Skolas.
-Ignore everything else
-pop a heavy ammo synth and unload 7 more gjallarhorn rockets at him.
-This should kill him, and then all you have to do is defuse the 2 waves of splinter mines.
-If you kill him fast enough no ads will spawn and defusing the mines is just a matter of making it to each one in the time given.
Make sure you have a key for the gold chest in the treasure room. That is where you get your exclusive emblem, shader, and ship for beating the level 35 PoE.
Hope this helped, feel free to ask me any questions, or let me know if anything I listed is incorrect.
I'll post a video as soon as I have it uploaded.
Edit: to get to the mine quick enough, as soon as I shot my last rocket, I popped my super and blade danced across to the other side.
Edit: 100+ replies, thanks for all the positive feedback and questions. Seems like everyone has the same strategy, just blast him with rockets. Lol
Edit: So it seems like you only get the shader, emblem, and ship on the first character you open then level 35 chest with. I just ran my second character through and got hard light and a queens shotgun. Nothing special.
Edit: I just ran through with my third character. We had 2 Titans and a hunter. One of the Titans didn't have a gally so he hit him with the vex and whole the other Titan and I hit him with gally. When we paused to use a synth the other Titan unloaded HoC rockets on him to keep him staggered. Worked just as well as 3 gallys.

10 RepliesBut what if you don't have a Gally, or hunger of Crota? I have a black hammer though.
-
I haven't own gjallarhorn before... I spend playing up to 7 month and everyday since destiny launched and still diden't get gjallarhorn... I think RNG hates me to get it...
-
1 ReplyAnnnnnd if u don't have Gally? I'm day 1 and HoC maxed, RNGesus is a douchebag.
-
You call this a strategy? Get your gjallarhorn, shoot 7 rockets and pop a heavy amno synth? Wow so creative. What if you don't have a gjallarhorn or your menu is way to slow to pop a heavy amno synth without getting killed?
-
1 ReplyOh wow great strategy... Not it's not even a strategy every knows how to deal damage. What we need is a strategy for when he doesn't die immediately in 30 seconds and for when one of my teammates has no solar heavy or sniper
-
6 RepliesWe had 3 gallys in our group all 365and still didn't beat him. He gets too close to quickly. Slowly driving me up the -blam!-ing wall
-
3 RepliesHere is a video of it, with a tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy9pvF0W6CQ&feature=youtu.be

On Xbox 360 the loading screens are slow but we ended up popping our second synths and killed him after our 50 try it took a while
-
What you do is: 1.) Shoot Ghorn 2.) Walk back to airlock 3.) Get loot 4.) Dance
-
2 RepliesWe died the first try and then killed him the second try. All 3 of us were level 34 and we just kind of ran in circles and we all hit him with 7 gally shots every 5 minutes
-
1 ReplyThe shit is impossible on 360

Reply for later please

Edited by Sith_Trillex: 5/23/2015 7:47:41 PM
Alright this is something my friend and I came up with since he didn't have ghallahorn, we tried it numerous times with hunger of Crota but to no avail it wasn't doing enough against skolas. So I said snipe him. So this is how our winning strategy went, when skolas fight starts run to the left side and up the ramp. Immediately kill the servitor and throw up weapons of light if you have it. Now my buddy used icebreaker and shot skolas in the head to stagger him and keep his distance from us, while me and the other fireteam member shot gallys at him. It's not a big change in strat but it's good for people that don't have ghallahorn. By sniping him, he never even made it across the map from his starting point allowing us to aim our ghorns more precisely rather than jumping around hecticly. TL;DR use icebreaker to stagger him and keep him away from your fireteam
Edit: this is from a post I made

this fight needs to be nerfed a little. trying to do this legit (since we didn't have a titan) is almost impossible. theres way too many enemies in the room, and killing them off doesn't help one bit. they respawn way too damn fast. you even look at a captain funny and your dead. and that's besides the boss one shotting you with his cannon. the debuff to pass around isn't that hard to deal with, but it was the mobs that kept -blam!-ing us over. theres nowhere to hide, and when we were relatively safe to shoot the boss, he was nowhere in sight. I'll try the gjallarhorn rocket strat next time, but the mobs need to be toned down a little, its a little ridiculous.

I did it with an LFG group. One 33 warlock and two 34 hunters. One hunter took a right and aggro'd him to the center of the room and the other hunter and warlock rushed the left servitor and then launched rockets from that platform. The hardest thing about it was waiting for heavy synth to cool down between tries. It's kinda like Crota. Things have to go right for that technique to work. Just proof that you don't need all 34s or a titan to do it.

2 RepliesYou dont actually need 3x ghorn to do this. We did with 2 ghorns and i (still aint got it since day 1) used hunger of crota and ice breaker precision shots. Still got him down.

Bump for later

2 RepliesI play on Xbox 360. The chance of your inventory not loading up within that entire 20 second window is very real. Not worth upgrading over though!
