Not true, I use it to keep high level enemies shields down, you can figure out where vex are gonna teleport due to lingering, not to mention it's good a giving you two head shots for one shot if your fighting guys like shanks and dreg. Plus it stops captain/major enemies from regaining health especially knights. Also for bosses it supplies a none stop stream of damage due to lingering. Also allows me to use less special and heavy ammo because the thorn does a good amount if damage.
