Is HOW do or die for Bungie and Destiny?

With the large number of players hitting a wall, and nearly everyone less than satisfied with TDB, do you think the long wait is due to Bungie wanting to make damn sure it's as good as it can be? I wonder if they have been holding back on PvE events so they can dump them all at once with the DLC inflating the amount of new content. Or maybe I am giving them to much credit and the decision to hold off is strictly a business decision. I have always said they shouldn't worry about all the complaining, they should worry about when it stops. And I'm afraid most people just no longer care and have moved on.

  • I'll have to see. Elder scrolls online cones out on console around the same time HoW does, so it better be good if i'm to stay

    • I already paid for HoW so I'll be playing through regardless. The content that's included will decide for me if I'll jump right into comet or wait it out to see the community reaction. I don't want to leave but with halo 5 and other titles coming out they're making it tough.

    • This is by no means a destiny bash because IMO it has more than paid for itself for me in terms of entertainment but I do see HoW likely being the end of the road for several die hards. The past week is the first time I havent played destiny for over a week since its come out and I don't plan on playing it any time soon either. Its not the game itself but rather burn out and lack of anything to do which is just natural progression I guess. I also heard (though this may be a trumped of rumor) that comet will be priced just shy of full retail price at a time that other new AAA titles will be making a splash onto the scene which doesnt bode well for me either as I will likely not buy an expansion when I can buy a full game for 10 bucks more. • I think HoW is a do or die for destiny and bungie at this point. Although I will continue playing it regardless just not as a regularly. This has to be bigger and better in every aspect that TDB and especially the launch content. I'm not a hater but I am an avid fan of destiny

Doubt it. Were talking like they require sales from HoW or Comet to recoup a loss. They practically tripled the production cost of Destiny. They're laughing to the bank at this point. PR is the name of the game now. As long as they make it look like they've made an effort to satisfy the core player base, marketing will take care of the rest. What we have to realize is, there are people who are still going to buy the game, the whole game, from now until Comet. Like it. Play it for three months and buy Comet. Likewise, think about it... There's been a solid user base for three months after TDB dropped. If HoW does come out end of April, early May, last three months, that 1 month of down time until Comet. Bungie has seriously planned this out. I'm not praising them, but the time the DLCs are dropping is well played. There is a core player base, friends lists, community posts, about people leaving have little substance. No one has numbers to back it up. Gameinformer, GameSpot, all reported the user base grew from 16 million in Februray to 17 million in March. I'm not confirming this, just what was reported. Is that 17 million playing? Probably not. But there was a rise in overall activations. HoW do or die? Only in the PR sense. The people who played CE and still run VoG will run the new Raid for 3 months and players like me who enjoy PvP and Nightfalls will play through all the way to Comet. Personally... The only thing that will kill destiny is Bungie not producing content. Which isn't likely anytime soon, the stuff coming HoW, Comet, and the following DLCs are most likely low cost addons with most of the framework packaged with the Launch game and with the massive (massive in the destiny sense) Comet expansion. Edit: not a fanboy, just looking at it logically... This game was supposed to die months ago and with every subsequent big title release. It hasn't. Why? Well, maybe just maybe there are more people playing this game that don't actually care about all the fuss... And just play.

I only grind this game because Call of Duty sucks this year. When my friends were playing a lot during the week and weekends, it was great. After they stopped because they got bored or other games, solo playing was OK for a while and finding groups is hit or miss and usually isn't that fun. If HoW is a disappointment and nothing more than a grindfest for another level cap (which it looks to be), I just don't see me buying Comet. I don't need another lonely grind fest of a game that doesn't have a story.

        • Their games are already funded, even if everyone quits when HoW comes out they will still make the next games. Unfortunately if everyone quits ten it will stop being a Bungie game and the rights will move to activision. Then we really would have to pay out the ass.

        • For a lot of the older players from day 1 it is bungie's last chance to impress us. A lot of the Day 1's (including myself) are either on break or have quit entirely. I don't speak for them, but a lot of the ones I talk to feel like this. If HoW isn't something special, then bungie will lose a good chunk of its base. Those of us who have been on the game since the beginning are the ones who have been advertising and drawing players in with our videos on YouTube, posts on forums and through spoken word. We were the ones who helped the kinderguardians when they wanted to run VoG hard at 27 or get carried through CE. Bungie needs to remember us before it decides to release another half assed product like Dark Below. Without us, the dedicated players, this game would of died 3 months after release like some of us thought. If HoW is bad (not marginally better than DLC 1) your base will all but disappear. The game may survive, who knows, however it will take bungie a long time to build that base back up. HoW will decide for a lot of older player (some are just staying b/c they bought the seasons pass) if they are going to stay. If the older players quit forever then the game will fall.

          • I've seen a lot of guys say it's the make or break point for them. People denying that others won't come back if they mess up need to realise by then there's going to be more games out and in turn will be harder to keep people here Just remember that without big numbers this game will be screwed. As its hosted games you want the best connection available. You won't get that with dwindling numbers

          • destiny will have phases where people take a break but come back for dlc. There is no other game mode on any other game that is good as a new destiny raid. When bungie finally drop the crap old gen consoles it will become the best franchise of the generation

          • No. They will have complainers no matter what they do.. Haters yet they play the game just to bash everything. And no HoW should not be the last chance for any day 1er.. Stop complaining about small dlcs and wait for comet to actually start "biching"

            • Yes. I'm halfway out the door already, and I'm sure many others are. We're all waiting for house of wolves, and if it's another dark below, I'm gonna be out again after a month or two.

            • Since most destiny fans are mindless zombies who seem to think destiny's the only game out there.... I'd say destiny will live on As for bungie... Well, they've been dead since they joined activision

              • That would be comet more likely. Many of us already bought HoW so we'll more than likely stick around for it at least mostly. Comet on the other hand they have to convince us to buy. Sure, HoW will influence that to a degree, but Comet hints at a much bigger update, people may feel that's worth at least looking at before walking away. I'm curious about the leaked image's mention of a new patrol (really disappointed it's only 1, but it'd be better than playing more story missions backwards)

                • No. Destiny 2/post Comet DLC is what will kill or keep the franchise. If they keep up the half hearted updates, ignore reasonable and popular customers requests(more story, private PvP, optional matchmaking, more appearance options) players will simply stop coming back. I like this game, the play style is exciting and fun, the lore(what little there is of it) has captured my heart. It's a good game with problems, with its online, constant update game support lack of improvement is inexcusable. A good game with problems can become a great game with proper fixes and tweaking.

                  • No, the little DLCs seem to be following a set model. Handful of missions and stuff, but no real changes or improvements to the game. The destiny we have right now isn't going to change very much until destiny 2. If anything, a lot of people will be waiting for reviews before buying D2 I think.

                    • It's funny the amount of people who keep talking about this Comet DLC as if it's a real thing. Bungie have never acknowledged it's existence, and at least 2 Dev's publicly mocked that supposed leaked image. Let's not pin our hopes on something that may not even be a real thing.
