A little backstory
Without mods fallout is entirely a single player game, focusing around the player and their endeavours in post apocalyptic earth, your actions affect the world and you are the most important character the "hero" (or villian based on your play style)
what could be different from ESO to solve mp issues
in ESO you are told you are the "chosen one" but as soon as you step out of the tutorial you find "chosen ones" everywhere, which kind of kills any feeling of being special. So, what if fallout 4 had its main single player story, allowing you to play through the massive open world you know and love, but then there was an independent multiplayer mode where you have a character seperate to your single player one (with an option to import appearance) but NPC's would be completely removed from the multiplayer mode, players would fill the roles of bandits, quest givers (imagine giving a quest to a new player to bring you the claws, of 5 deathclaws, lol.) merchants and even faction leaders or grunts. The world would be shaped by these players
So wait, how would these jobs work?
As a quest giver you would be able to set up a quest using an interface and a set of options (YE GODS, LOOK AT ALL THOSE OPTIONS!) like set a location, items to obtain and a reward as an example: go to the Boston ruins and collect experiment notes from a lab and you are rewarded with 100 caps (payed for from the givers inventory) in return the quest giver would receive the items they wanted or, even revenge on someone who attacked them (yes, Create bounties on other players in the server)
As a merchant a similar interface could be used to sell items to players at prices you choose, simple these items could be purchased simply by another player walking up and interacting with you.
And as a leader you could create groups (bandit groups, military factions, etc) and recruit players to said group, similar to a clan and issue armour and weapons to different members
What about chatting?
A system could be implemented that you could only talk with people who are within a certain distance of you, any farther and a radio is required
And if I die?
Then you will respawn at a "home base" built using scrap collected in the wasteland, you would respawn indoors, collect what you want with you and continue on your way, now you need to ration what you bring instead of being a regular player (3 different sets of armour 20 weapons and thousands of bullets all fit in my pocket and on death i lose none)
How would I build a base?
By collecting scrap, doors (we all know very well you would be capable of carrying 3 of them at once...) metal, traps, whatever you need, then use it to modify existing buildings in the world (old houses, offices, etc) to prevent clutter, if someone else was using that building for their base your base would be generated in the nearest available building with the closest layout
Pvp?
Pvp is enabled, if a player is interacting with another (like shopping) pvp would be disabled for the, temporarily incase there is an "arguement" over a price, but out in the wasteland its survival of the fittest
The world
The world is entirely pre generated, building, land formations, everything the only variation is played modification to buildings.
And as I said, there would be a completely seperate single player (with up to 4 player co-op, maybe?) but in this multiplayer mode you would just be a regular wastelander trying to survive. Would you like to see something like this? Discuss
Edit: sorry forgot to mention, the only NPC's would be things like feral ghouls, cazadores (hate those things...), rad scorpions, and other creatures of the wasteland that can't be communicated with
Edit 2: I applaud you if you read all of that

3 RepliesI really don't think it would be beneficial for the game. It would take away from development of the single player.
-
Absolutely not, if it's anything more than co-op story mode/free roam then I don't want it.
-
2 player co-op is as far as it should go. I get the feeling online multiplayer would ruin this game.
-
Edited by Jono: 3/16/2015 8:40:07 PMThe point of a Fallout game is to make you feel alone and vulnerable in a nuclear apocalypse setting. Adding multiplayer or co-op would ruin that feeling and the overall immersion of the game.

I like some of your ideas, the one that sticks out the most would have to be a co-op mode of sorts. But I feel like too many games try to force a multiplayer aspect into games and 9 times out of 10 if fails pretty miserably, essentially wasting precious development time that could have been focused on making the single player experience better. The Fallout series excels as a single player experience and my personal opinion is that any multiplayer effort could/would take away from the single player. I say leave Fallout as the single player masterpiece it already has the reputation of being

2 RepliesEdited by A Saturnalia: 3/16/2015 4:08:19 AMDetrimental. The only way it would work is if the world was procedurally generated and they wouldn't bother with that. I'd also rather they not spend that extra time and money making a multiplayer and instead add in 70 more side quests.
-
I think Fallout 4 should be a single player only game. Striving away from the original formula may not sit well with people.
-
No, let them focus on the single-player. Multiplayer always takes away from the single-player experience because games have budgets. I highly doubt Bethesda would waste time and money on multiplayer in Fallout 4. Bethesda is not known for multiplayer but for their amazing single-player experiences and multiplayer would just take away from that.
-
At the very least we need co-op! All the games are doing it.
The good ones anyway...
-
The only thing that comes to mind for me is having a multiplayer fps that is similar to the very first half life multiplayer. Just all out crazy fun killing. Due to all the different types of guns and characters and armor I can see that being very fun.
-
Not a bad idea, but if they go with any multiplayer mods I hope it's co-op, but I hope they focus on single player.
-
too confusing, needs already established players and has massive room for griefing. i guess that's what you want from a multiplayer? i think a simple instanced and randomly generated dungeon mode would be good enough. have the difficulty and drops be scaleable on level and players(players set) in the dungeon.
-
Detrimental, the Fallout experience was meant to be experienced alone. It's more immersive, and it has helped Fallout 3 and NV flow very well.

Edited by Spooter: 3/16/2015 12:30:20 AMTo paraphrase one of my previous posts, to make multiplayer a reality, in a game that has successfully existed for decades as a single player experience, would ultimately require a number of resources (time and manpower) that will almost inevitably result in a detraction of quality in other areas of the experience. And by a team with little experience in the production of a multiplayer game, at that. The Fallout formula is something that works. There is no need to bring in cooperative multiplayer, or even a two player system, because then you'd just have another Borderlands.
-
An open world pvp would be cool, kinda like GTA V where you can roam the world and meet other people in the wastelands!
-
Detrimental, it would take funding and dev time away from the Singleplayer component.
-
There is too much emphasis these days on MP. It's pandering to a relatively small community and seriously detracting from the SP experience. Developers should create either MP or SP specific games, but not both; I cite the train-wreck called Destiny as exhibit #1 milord. You can't do both well IMO. Coop in fallout would be fun though :-)
-
Co-op = yes Multiplayer like ESO = no

1 ReplyI would like to see Co op but not like this (great ideas just doesn't seem right for fallout) I think two player Co op in the single player game would work fine. Dying light did this really well I think with the challenges and stuff just adding a bit of competition. But to make it feel more like the waste lands maybe enable friendly fire and have a shared loot stream so if something crazy cool drops you might not be able to trust your friend anymore. Of course vats wouldn't work so I guess put it in real time and maybe buff damage or something to compensate or maybe two people fighting would be enough.
-
Your asking for elder scrolls online fallout edition do you really want that cause thats what they would do.
-
I'm in. Sorta...ehhh....no...,yah....no....yes....sorta
lol
-
If there's room for it, then yes I'm all for it, but I would rather they didn't screw it up or make a smaller world so Co op works. Personally I would rather not play that game with a friend, I've rather enjoyed that feeling of being alone in the wasteland. It would be kind of weird too, with how VATS works.
-
3 RepliesCo-op would be very nice, just as long as they don't build the entire game around it.
-
2 RepliesNo thanks. Just focus on the singleplayer.
