Each time Iron Banner returns, there seems to be more and more players using the Suros Regime. I think it's an amazing weapon, and pretty much beats any other primary straight up in terms of 1) ease of use and 2) power.
I have some open questions/opinions/observations:
1. The healing from this gun seems "broken" at best, at least from the victim's perspective. If I happen to land a body shot with a sniper, and die to someone shooting a Suros, all I see is their life and shields return to 100% about 1 second after dropping. What's with that? The description of the perk says "has a chance to return health while dealing damage." By chance, does it mean 100% of the time? If that chance does hit, is the shield recharge timer reset immediately? I can't imagine that it gives you all your life back from landing a few shots? Perhaps this is just a display glitch -- am I the only one to notice it?
2. The range is a bit absurd (this includes all auto rifles). Remember the Halo AR? When you have a healing auto rifle with the range of Scout rifle (let's not pretend the IB maps are large enough to separate Scout/Pulse range and AR range), why would anyone pick another weapon (other than to avoid being considered status quo)?
3. Auto Rifles are endorsed every day by the "20 AR Headshots" bounty. This is -blam!-ing baffling to me - why is there such a push to use an AR?
4a. Suros breaks the balance of the game. Even according to Bungie's definition of "weapon balance," if a very high percentage of players are using the weapon, then there is clearly some advantage outweighing other weapon choice.
4b. Every weapon should have it's drawbacks -- If I use a shotgun, clearly my range, ammo, and reload time is limited. If I use a hand cannon, then ammo, reload times, and fire rate are limited. Pulse and Scout rifles are especially limited in Iron Banner because of the horrible map rotation.
4c. The Suros does not have any obvious drawbacks. There's not clean cut defensive strategy against a Suros except "kill them first." It's true that at *Long* range, a Scout Rifle or Sniper will win against a Suros, but at mid-range, I think that "sure thing" drops to probably 50% (which would be acceptable for Sniper vs Scout but Sniper vs AR?) . Consider all other primary/special weapons in Destiny -- You can almost always intuitively think of a good defensive strategy.
Please don't misunderstand my feedback. I'm not suggesting that "nerf" is the solution, and I certainly do not presume to understand the complexity of Destiny weapon balance. If there is anything that irritates me about the weapon, it's that the skill curve is basically a flat line. This example is bias and fairly extreme, but it annoyed me: I witnessed a hunter clean up about 6 kills in a row with a Suros, fire up his golden gun, and proceed to miss 4 shots. Lots of variables, I know, but you'll have to just take my word for it that anyone who saw it would be scratching their head.
For those folks who love Suros in PvE and PvP, do not take offense to this, as I think your gun choice is very wise. Additionally, just because a gun's output doesn't vary a lot based on skill, do not take that as me saying that anyone who uses Suros doesn't have skill. I know many skillful players who will use Suros in many circumstances.
However, what I am saying is that there shouldn't be a reason that one should feel pressured to switch to a gun just so they can compete (or win consistently). When your opponents all have the same weapons, the game feels very one dimensional and boring.
Am I crazy? Butt-hurt? Whatever nice descriptive phrase you come up with, please try to at least be constructive :)

Soooo I finally got a suros yesterday. .. almost a year too late :( ( still pretty beast though)

2 RepliesLol all I saw in IB is Red Death or Hawksaw, plus the raid weapons.
also shotguns but that's not new whatsoever
Lol... there is no limited to the crying.

4 Replies1. I don't believe I've been killed by a single Regime this week. 2. Stop bitching.

1 ReplyYou come up here bashing on one weapon that got nerfed 2 times, the suros is weak, the one weapons need a nerf is the last word, thorn and hawkmoon. Every matches, it's all those three guns. Everybody using them. Crucible and ib is so broken because bungie decided to milk all the sorry ass players with no aiming skill.
-
2 RepliesOk in order: 1. Out of every 10 kills I get with Suros, I am hurt in 8; of those 8 i heal on the kill 3 times of the time by the weapon. 2. That range is useful when zoomed in with the first upgrade, yes. Still outclassed by most other classes of weapons in Destiny. 3. Keep in mind most auto rifles, Suros the exception here, have low impact and usually low stability or range for the fire rate or clip size. 4a. Vex Mythoclast is abused more in crucible than Suros by those who have both. I can only beat skilled Vex users with Thorn or luck. Thorn ties 60% of the time, wins and loses 20% each the rest of the time with all other weapons. 4b and 4c. Either spray and pray or play safe and cool. The Suros Regime upgrade got nerfed at the request of crucible players, who rarely see it in full effect. Who waits to reload till they have three rounds left in the mag with ARs in this game honostly?

1 ReplyMaybe you dumb assholes is because there is a -blam!-ing bounty to get head shots with an assault rifle!!!! And since bungee decided to get rid of any legendary assault rifle that was worth a damn.... You have 2 choices... SUROS or vanquisher... So why don't we just shut the -blam!- up and grow a damn pair.

hey over here click that spoiler.

theres a range perk.

don't tell anyone.
iron banner is about power. Suros is power. Use Suros in iron banner. Are people using it all the time in PVE or Pvp? No, they're not.
-
1 ReplyI only use suros to speed up the 20 AR headshot bounty. I think they should really add more variety to the bounties
-
9 RepliesTry 'Thorn Banner'
-
1 ReplyThe worst part about guns like suros hawkmoon thorn and TLW is if you're not using one of them you automatically put yourself at a disadvantage. It should never be like that. I mean you can max out stability and increase range on the suros for god sakes. It has no weakness
-
1 ReplyWtf suros regenerates health? Mine doesn't do that
-
bungie said exotics should feel powerful in regards to others without breaking the game. its a paradox. the weapon is either powerful or not and if it is it breaks the balance. crucibles mighty trio is vex/thorn/suros. i only got the suros recently and damn right its op and i use it every time when im not in the mood to use the hawkmoon.
-
Shouldn't be like that, but every pvp mode has it's stand out weapons that everyone ends up using!
-
3 RepliesThe thorn is a 2 shot kill, way more ridiculous than the suros
-
ive seen a few suros yeah, but most people were using vex(me included) or thorn. to my surprise only 1 gun out damaged me 100% of the time i ran into it, and i traded with lmgs if i got all headshots. guess what it is yet? no?
praedyths timepiece. decent damage, amazing fire rate and insane stability
-
Sucks to be a scrub but im myself are a scrub because I don't own the g-horn but please don't push my buttons in IB :)
-
Yeah, iron banner just becomes a suros orgy fest now every time it comes out.
-
Suros I'd a fair play. I take down Suros with Thorn all the time. My Thorn tears a new one.

1 ReplyI get the feeling the next event will be queen, or at least pve. Deej even commented how it was noted that when IB comes back everyone wants the queen.
