Asher mir is no more, I believe. I think he sacrificed himself in the vex network to make the veil, and then…well, you know. But I could be wrong.

He didn’t become the network, he finished his conversion into a Vex but retained his self awareness. We encountered him a while ago during the endless night, he was piloting a Vex unit and used Morse code to call us assistant. The Vex could never be allies.

The person that was trying to communicate with him from the beginning was Chioma, the Vex network is split between the original network that Chioma & Soteria integrated with and the Vex that were taken by Savathun & Quria. So yes, we'll probably meet Chioma Esi soon, and I'm sure Asher will be at her side. That's what Avalon suggested... the path to victory isn't through Savathun... it's the Vex, Asher was at the base...the roots of the Tree with Silver Wings... that's the path to finding the light. Juxtaposed to what just happened... Darkness consuming Sloane huddled scared in the corner. "Giving up" ISN'T the same thing as "Sacrifice/Martyrdom". Asher sacrificed himself... Sloane gave up. Remember vanilla D2, where we found Cayde...? He was in Vex network looking for Chioma. That's how he got stuck. Btw, it's rumored that Io returns next season... if true Asher will be apart of that storyline. The Whisper of the Wurm... the key to freeing Ahsa... maybe. That was on Io too. "Whisper" (darkness) of the [hive] "Wurm" [god] (Ahsa). Maybe 😉? Also, hopefully my favorite mission will return - Arecibo "Trust not those that grant unlimited power but ask for nothing in return". My theory started with that mission, that's when I "knew" the Traveler was a lie... not really😋, but that's where it all started for me.
