To all those on these forums that plaster it with topics like “Bungie only caters to streamers” “You have ruined this game for casual players” “Difficulty has sucked the fun out of D2!” “Game is now just to hard and no fun” “God why not return everything as it was before this dlc” and my favorite - the one’s that make up % - “90% of people just want to relax & not have to develop their skills for the game - I don’t want to GET GOOD!”
From the article linked above:
‘Destiny 2’ Just Had Its Highest Monthly Playercount Since Its Free-to-Play Launch in Shadowkeep. What’s the opposite of a dead game? A live one, and Destiny 2 continues to be one of the only PvE-centric live games that has not just survived over time, but thrived. And if you need any evidence of that, just look at the latest post-Lightfall player numbers. This was highlighted by u/Merzats on reddit, as they followed up with the previous information we knew that Lightfall had brought the highest peak playercount for Destiny 2 on Steam…ever, with 316,000 players at Lightfall launch besting all previous expansions. Now, we have some similarly impressive, longer-term figures. With March having come and gone, we can now see that the game’s average players in March at 135,102 are higher than at any point in the game’s history except for 165,307 during the launch of Shadowkeep. Importantly, that’s not just the first moment the game came to Steam in the first place, but it was also the launch of the New Light free-to-play experience, back when the game still had loads of free content (Red War, both expansions, its first three seasons) for players to consume. So I’m not surprised it didn’t quite beat that out.
So it would seem that the majority of the player base may have had some strong criticisms towards the story narritive & the amount of content that came with the expansion, but find the action game play super engaging, the game play fun, & the loot is interesting enough to continue logging on weeks after a “failed launch.” Interesting...

11 RepliesBelieving anything Paul Tassi or Forbes has to say < Literally anyone with a brain cell / Your average forum poster. Might as well cite The Onion as your source.

3 RepliesRight now there are 670,000 playing counter strike on steam, counter strike is thriving, destiny 2 has 68,000. Big difference.

Edited by Kouz_MC: 4/4/2023 9:38:18 AMYou do realize that the quoted graph in the article shows the steepest decline in population ever registered? It also doesn’t even represent 15% of the actual community across all platforms. So yeah, nice cash grab, but friends’lists are already shrinking to half one page, except may be on weekend days, barely one month after release, and many returning players are already back to other shooters. I also never heard a marketing company with serious conflict of interest talking bad about the money that feeds them.

“Rheeeeee!!! Sbmm killed the game!!!!!” Rofl

20 RepliesIf that were true Bungie wouldn’t be taking the nerf hammer to the game. They are clearly seeing something deeply concerning in their metrics and moving quickly to get out in front of it.

Did my part for the numbers algorithm, logged in for my weekly three minutes to check eververse and Ada and logged off.

1 ReplyI don’t like the difficulty changes. However I’ve been playing a bit more recently. I just spend less time in the activities that have been mostly affected (ie made more difficult). If other people are behaving in a similar way then that might help to explain why Bungie are backtracking a little on some of the changes, despite ‘the numbers’.
-
Population numbers are largely irrelevant to the equation. What we can’t see is content engagement - which has obviously dropped otherwise they wouldn’t have walked back some of the changes. All this means is he’s lots of people are playing - but most of them probably aren’t engaging with Legend+ content as much as before.
-
16 RepliesIdk if you can call population booming when 90% of them are bot walking in patrols.
-
People are typing some really long paragraphs in these comments but somehow saying nothing? Suck it up and move on if you don't like the game, or stop crying and get better if you want to keep playing.

2 RepliesEdited by Kildozer666: 4/3/2023 7:10:49 PMThe cope from people on these forums that truly believe that the echo chamber they live in on the internet reflects real life people. Turns out the majority of whining complaints of twitter, Reddit, and these forums don’t reflect the opinions of the majority of the population. Wow! What a realization. Hahaha

1 ReplyBest post of the year in the forums.

2 RepliesLightfall campaign sucks. This doesn't mean that the entire game sucks. People mostly criticized the campaign story and narration, the changes in difficulty, the Commendations and GR system. Minor complains reguarded Neoumuna design and Activities, the lost of old types of Mods (that now we know we don't need anymore to make good builds) and few other things. Clearly PvE side of the game (which is its core) is still fine and kicking. Players are playing, enjoy Strand, new Weapons, Builds, contents, changes that are making the game more enjoyabe ecc. Bungie -as always- needs to tune things and fix changes that were served half baked (Commendations, for example). Gambit is still Gambit. PvP is... something, I suppose. The fact that one hell of a Weapon was put as Reward for Trials made the population very high the last week, which in terms of numbers is always good. Overall it's still Destiny, with new changes that helped the game to improve and others that are still trying to understand what the hell is theyr purpose.

Edited by Accola: 4/4/2023 9:32:53 AMDon't even bother trying to convince people about this. There are so many users on these forums who haven't touched the game in years yet still post about how awful the game supposedly is, if not that they're whining about how bad they are at it. They'll never like the game but by God they'll throw $100 at Bungie every single year and keep complaining and saying "I just want the game to be good" for the next five years. People legitimately believe that Bungie and Steam are colluding to inflate player numbers because ?????? And their source is ???????.

8 RepliesI think the new changes have made it to where players are taking longer to complete activities. That will obviously skew the data in favor of reflecting an increase in player activity. Doesn’t mean the player sentiment/enjoyment is necessarily there lol.

2 RepliesEdited by Knight: 4/4/2023 12:03:29 AMYou see? 'dead game' or 'unfun difficulty ripped my fun out' lol get either these games I recommend: Chivalry 2 (more fun, more entertainment, better combat, however if you are bad at this game, you'll be sweaty and may rage) Fallout 76 (better grind, a lot more weapons to try out, a lot more armour sets to fill your fashion taste, better combat, NO BUGS AS WELL, from my experience of 8 months of fo76, doesn't feel broken to me anymore. Feels like an average game Diablo IV *Releases at June 6 (Literally a better version of destiny 2, very fun gameplay, lots of weapons, lots of skills, open world, feels like an mmorpg, world bosses to defeat, very good pvp, Elden Ring (A third person medieval adventure game, very fun gameplay, very fun pvp, however, be careful with your temper around objects) Warframe (Just a really better version of destiny, why would you choose destiny over warframe? I dont get it) Very fun games than destiny 2, destiny 2 is utterly garbo.

There are a lot of people just stuck on d2! Addicts ….habit ….haven’t got much going ….I honestly used to log in like auto and sink hours into d2. Destiny is the best , smoothest pvp/ pve game out there ….that’s why I keep coming back but most importantly I do not take destiny seriously or emotionally involved.

2 RepliesDestiny 2 is a dead game

Way to copy and paste someone else's article on the matter.

37 Replieshow many of those play pvp?
-
2 RepliesFirst, Paul Tassi is a joke and not a relevant source at all. Second, a thriving game is not one where they have sold millions copies and only around 130K play each month. That's a lot of disappointed fans. That's a lot of disappointed customers. That's a very low customer retention rate. Try to look at it as a whole, not just one number. Bungie has alienated a lot of gamers and left them disappointed. Just look at the player retention rate and that truly sums up how successful the game is. Bungie is falling short and they are not respected in the gaming community. These are facts that do not require numbers. Bungie, Do better!
