Edited by Asylum: 10/13/2021 6:35:37 AMLooter shooter. There isnt anywhere near enough player control for this to be an MMORPG For instance if the game is supposed to be team based why is it that i can have 6 with me for raids but can only have 3 anywhere else (barring crucible and gambit here). Shouldnt i be able to take my raid team with me anywhere to help with team cohesion? So that we can master our callouts and find ways to make the team work off each other? But no, i have to cut my team in half unless we're raiding for no reason. And this stupidity is even doubled when you have destination activities like alters of sorrow or escelation protocol where you had to luck into enough people in a given instance to even stand a chance because there was no way to MM or even cooedinate a way to get enough people, especially when it released. The loot, and the grind to obtain it, are severely out balanced as opposed to real MMORPGs where typically the grind is worth it for the loot. But destiny 2 has and always will be "2 tokens and a blue" because the grind severely out weighs the rewards. But then at the same time you have strikes that are so easy you can run them solo eithout issue, even if youre under light; and in order to make them "challenging" bungie just triples the spawns, triples the health, and cuts the damage in half vs putting in actual mechanics that require more thought than "stand here, shoot crit spot the size of a billboard for 20 minutes...profit?" And thats for whatever reason, considered challanging rather than just pure laziness. Bungie doesnt put in enough content and effort into the game and its mechanics to consider this anything close to an MMORPG, hell you can only have a max of 16 people per instance. Thats pathetic considering we now have battle royals that have up to 200 players in some games i believe. Destiny is not now, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be (especially with the worst P2P connection on the worlds most useless hybrod servers) be a legitimate MMORPG. Its just a looter shooter with and over complicated story. Just shoot aliens in the face and be merry 🙃

A huge grind with little payout

2 RepliesIt’s kind of both. Take away that first M and I think that’s sort of what it is. It doesn’t feel “massive” to me. Everything is very small, confined things and the open world areas are not compelling at all. They’re just used for fetch quests or occasionally as “hallways” to whatever you are doing in your small team or by yourself. I like that it had been going more RPG(but glad it’s not taking on the “massive” part), and wish it would lose some of the RNG of the looter shooter part. Some aspects of the RNG are too unforgiving and create terrible scenarios that shouldn’t exist in a game like this, or any game really.

3 RepliesD2 is not a RPG at all, in RPGs the player controls the plot and drives it forward based on there decisions, we have had 1 choice in Destiny in close to 8 years, Drifter or Aunor , and even that choice is forgotten. I don't see why STASIS couldn't have been a choice, with NPCs acknowledging your decision like Drifter calling you snitch. And it wouldn't be that bad if we was the center of the story , but we are less and less involved, we were the one who spared Mithrax on Titan, a choice that also could have been acknowledged, but no,it was an unnamed guardian, our guardian never met him. And in Season of the Lost , we are just doing the NPCs busywork ,while the important characters schemed. Imagine how pissed Halo fans would be if Chief had to kill and collect so they could watch cutscenes about other characters. If Destiny can't be a true RPG , atleast keep the player has the center of the story. And Destiny is not an MMO either, which I am thankful for , I tried ESO and I didn't like it, systems on top of systems, currencies on top of currencies, you can't keep track of them all, yes Destiny has a few systems, and crafting coming in Feb, but I am sure you won't have to harvest 2000 metal ore and 1500 Wolf Hide to craft a pair of pants. It does have a few MMO like steps, but that's only to add depth to the gameplay loop. To me Destiny is a Co-op online shooter, where I kill aliens and collect guns and armor , and that is enough for me , if I want a deeper experience I play Mass Effect or Witcher, true RPGs , but something keeps me hooked in Destiny

Both. That is what Bungie means when they call Destiny an "action-MMO". It is an action-RPG (in the spirit of Borderlands). But the "RPG" aspects of the game borrows from MMOs rather than campain shooters (Borderlands) or an open-world game (like The Division 1/2). Bottomline is that Bungie is trying to create a NEW kind of game----a game that other people are calling "MMO-lite" games. But some people (hint) are unwilling to see this as a new kind of game...and keep trying to cram it into a category that they are more comfortable with....even though it doesn't really fit.

Looter shooter and mmo rpg aren’t mutually exclusive genres.
