Title says it all. Im epileptic and I’d love to use riskrunner but the electricity effect constantly flashing all over the place really gives me a headache, and i’m sure i’m not the only person with this problem.
Edit: yes I know destiny isn’t necessarily good for epileptic people but not everyone with the condition is the same, and the rest of the game doesn’t really affect me if at all; just riskrunner is overkill.
Edit #2: asking for an option to lower the effects of one single gun shouldn’t be as controversial as some people are making it out to be.

3 RepliesEdited by The White Rabbit: 1/26/2021 5:12:04 PMThey had to patch the Arc Logic auto rifle last year for being too flashy. Given your condition and their supposed ‘commitment to performance’ it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have effect sliders in this game. Lots of much much older games do and did out of box. WoW is one such game (and one Luke Smith keeps harping about).

22 RepliesIf you're epileptic then you really shouldn't be playing video games.
-
51 RepliesHello. Thanks for reporting this to us. I've filed this issue for our developers to investigate.

Yeah they really gotta tone down the flashes and stuff in this game, even for someone without epilepsy it's just hard to look at on a lot of things.

1 ReplyEdited by GraySithHolocron: 1/27/2021 4:30:18 AMTo all of you people who are telling this guy not to play: what the feck is wrong with you? Seriously, people, what in the feck is wrong with you? This guy has a serious medical condition. If he wants to play a game without it triggering an epileptic shock, I don't see a problem with him asking for a way to reduce the screen flashes on a weapon he likes to use. I don't have epilepsy, so I can't even imagine what he goes through, but even I sometimes have moments playing this game where I'm just like, "GOD DAMN! That flashing is outta control!" If the Destiny community is becoming a bunch of fecking assholes like you lot, then Bungie should just pull the damn plug on this game. Assholes like you don't deserve a goddamned thing except scorn and contempt.

Yeah, no... they should have a filter or something for the whole game if you are epileptic. Give those that like if, the option to keep it the way it is, and those that don't like it, allow them to change it. My personal opinion, I would love risk runner to not crash my game when I kill a bunch of trash mob. Bird error! Bird error for everyone! This should be the first fix!
-
I’d love to see video games launch with an ‘effects suppression filter’ that pretty much nullified all crazy visuals. I don’t know much about epilepsy, but as technology advances it’ll be cool to see how developers reach out to that demographic.
Sorry, all out of salt.
I think all games should have an “epilepsy” setting, that way you could play anything you like safely. Why should gamers miss out or watch what they play through no fault of their own.
-
I like the effects so I want them to stay but I'm not opposed to an option in the menu for epileptic people.
-
I don’t understand why some people see this change as a horrible addition because it doesn’t improve their direct gameplay experience

23 RepliesReading the comments below had reminded me how awful a lot of people here are. This won’t do anything except help some people. And a lot of y’all are acting like this man is asking to remove the gun. Grow up. Op, I hope this at least catches some attention to bungie or you find some sort of solution. Ignore the idiots below

3 RepliesHey man, i have epilepsy too. We're the rare 1%. I agree with you and am one of the ones that the riskrunners lights DO NOT bother. I do agree with your opinion and like the others' suggestions of maybe a filter mode or something for those with the lights being an issue. On the same hand, make sure youre taking your own precautions too man. Play in a lit area, if you get headaches, take a break and hydrate man. Don't want you collasping. Make sure youre up to date on meds too. (if you take them) Want to make sure youre safe man.

I would like an option to tone down some of the visual effects of the game as well. I'm not epileptic, but too many visual effects can make it hard to see what's going on in game well enough to play the game. I don't think your request to lower the effects of Riskrunner is too much to ask. Reviewing all these comments just shows there are a lot of jerks in this community.
-
Oh dang, yeah they should probably fix that.
-
2 RepliesOut of curiosity, why not just adjust the settings on your tv?
-
Hmmm seems like the easiest way to fix the problem you're having.... it's to not use riskrunner? Probably easier then a minuscule minority getting a weapon changed and wasting dev time
-
Yeah it’s bright but remember the sun on burning shrine in d1? I think that literally caused my astigmatism
-
I'm curious though, would that make it easier to use for everyone, including those without this issue? Less electricity surrounding you while perk is active makes it easier/less distractive to aim or find new targets. Not saying that would make it or other weapons op, but it does change the usability. I think most likely putting those that disabled weapon effects at an advantage. But I could be wrong. Is there another way to alter it without giving those benefits?
-
Hey, you might want to take this up with bungo directly, not use the cesspit that is the forums. Also, use any epilepsy support groups you have access to. Bigger voices, especially in the media, tend to get better, quicker results. Until changes happen, stay safe bud.
-
There should be an option to disable the visual effect
-
That’d be a really cool move by bungie if they did that, I think just an overall mode like the color blindness options, but more like a switch to tone down effects that trigger epilepsy (Disclaimer, I’m not a doctor or a game designer, so I could be totally wrong on all accounts)
-
Honestly I want stuff like this to be toggleable kind of like a color blind mode. There should be a selectable epilepsy mode so that those that still want the flashyness can also keep it. Like chaos reach for example. They made it less bright but if your trying to make a video or clip or something then you would want it to be as flashy as possible. So I think it should be a setting that allows us to toggle how flashy things in the game are.
-
15 RepliesThat means they will have to change almost everything of the game let's see how that works!
-
I agree with them making a slider for weapon effects. I would have used hard light more in vanilla if it didn't feel like you were standing in a magnitude 10 earthquake while in the middle of a rave
