Sid Meier defines a game as "a series of interesting choices". In Destiny, that's what class you play, what gear you wear, what mods you socket, when you use your abilities, when you use your power ammo, which enemies you shoot first, and where you stand/go next.
However, do those decisions even matter when a single stomp sends you past where you can jump back into the boss arena, instantly wiping you back to before the boss fight?
I spent who knows how long kiting that boss, fighting waves of Cabal, running from one Vex circle to the next (having to run for my life several times and return before finally clearing them), chipped the boss down to low health and finally got knocked out of the arena. I turned to make the jump back in, and... dead.
What's the point of putting in that kind of effort if a stomp is what decides the outcome?

Yeah I agree it's kind of dumb honestly and some bosses who "stomp" don't even have feet. It's just Bungie using the wonky physics of the game to murder you it gets too annoying at times. Yes there are counters but just because a bad mechanic has workarounds that doesn't mean it's not a bad mechanic all of a sudden. In most cases the AOE is also way too big for no reason so even if you're out of punching range you can still just get sent out.

The area of affect for the stomp is set too high, getting knocked back during a shoulder charge or sword attack is going to happen but when you are hand cannon distance from an ogre and he can still stomp you off the map it's a bit ridiculous.

6 Replies1. Stop trying to DPS a boss at their feet while they have a stomp mechanic. 2. Melee the boss to get rid of knockback. Works great especially with a trenchbarrel shotgun It's not that hard and there's a reason for it.

Stomp's an annoying mechanic for sure, but as others have already pointed out, there are counters. Here are some that weren't mentioned that actually do make your loadout choice matter. - Hunter Strafe Jump: If activated in the opposite direction of where you're being sent flying, it negates that momentum. If you do it immediately, all stomp does is make you airborne, but doesn't send you off the map. In fact, Hunter jump is the best one for jumping back onto land after falling off/underneath it. - Titan Shoulder Charge: No matter where you're going, whether that be in the air or on the ground, activating SC will take over your current momentum, and push you into whatever direction you're facing. Though I understand you won't always have your SC ready to use, or maybe you're not even using a Titan subclass that has one. I'd include Icarus Dash as well, but I'm not sure how well it works for countering momentum. The only other thing I can think of is Hive Swords(spamming light attacks mid-air), but they're not exactly readily available.

8 RepliesSounds like you are being penalized for making the decision to stand next to a boss with a Stomp mechanic. Don't stand there if you don't like being stomped.

To all you "Punch the boss" what about all the times where the boss jumps up behind me while I'm busy trying to clear adds? What about when they stomp I melee and am knocked into the red only for them to stomp again 2 seconds later before I even start healing?

You Still can't counter stomp mechanics?

13 RepliesNever put your back to bad has been a staple in arena and mmo battles alike. You know that theres a massive push back, so why are you even going that close when you're near a ledge?
and no I'm not talking about those Halo 2 esc super bounces that fly you across the map, those are clearly unintentional, but funny.
Not gonna lie, the amount of CC in the sundial is starting to get to me. Why the cabal arm their troops with anything but phalanx shields is an absolute mystery to me.
