That really doesn't matter it's still a milestone to reach the 1 kd i personally find destiny quite hard pvp as i reach a 1 till 1.3 kd ussually but meanwhile i have a 1.9 overall kd on titanfall2

No it's not. Even the lowest skill tier players can get a 1.0 when they only get matched with players of the same skill tier. That's the thing and the reason for SBMM: Everyone can get that 1.0. A 1.0 in the highest skill tier is NOT a 1.0 in the lowest skill tier. That's why it means shit. Two players can have a 1.0 and one of them is miles above the other one.
-
not everyone can have a 1.0 kd. ONE person with a 2.0 KD means there is ONE person with a 0.0 KD. It has to average out. The goal is for the matches to be competitive.
-
Erm...but you do know how SBMM works, right? Doesn't seem so...

Edited by Hound: 3/22/2017 4:35:08 PMFlow, the basic concept of skill based match making is pretty clear. But for example, if in control, bungie picked 12 guardians all with over 1.50 K/D.........In that match alone, half the team should have under a 1.0 KD. IT"S BASIC STATISTICS. It's a normal distribution, just not sure what the 6 sigma is. You throw the word skill based without understanding the formula behind it. I don't even know the formula. Yes, if your skill is higher, you will get matched with higher skilled players. But the formula to determine skill will never be made public. The two KNOWNS are this.......First, bungie wants competitive matchs. and Second, the KD distribution will always follow a normal (bell) curve. It might be skewed a bit, but I can guarantee you, the distribution is normal. and that is it, how bungie determines skill is anyone's guess. I'm sure K/D players a factor. But probably a small factor.

You've missed my point. SBMM tries to dorce everyone to the magical 1.0. That's the whole purpose of SBMM: To give everyone the same possibilities and good/bad experiences. If you're bad and well below 1.0, you'll get bad players that you can win against to push your kd/cr up. If you're good and way above 1.0, you get sweaty lobbies where you have to try as hard as you can to maintain a positive outcome. Simple.
-
No, it doesn't do that. Even in skill based match making, nothing is preventing you from getting a really good KD.... What skill based match making is doing is forcing a competitive match, close games, games that make you switch up tactics to get a win. Bungie isn't stupid, it is unrealistic to have EVERYONE hit the average. But what they can do is create matches that are competitive. It's up to the player to rise above the magical 1.0. (which means someone has to suffer). Again, you are assuming KD is the only factor. I guarantee you Bungie cares more about time to kill. - the average time between a spawn, and your guardians death. I bet you it is remarkably higher than Call of Booty. People get more enjoyment out of at least having the time to adjust then constantly dying.

Edited by FL0W: 3/22/2017 4:58:42 PMYou don't get it. K/D is flawed since two players can have a 1.0 overall even though one player ismiles above other one in terms of skill. The game sees your bad games and put you into easier lobbies so that you can shine once a while. That's all there is to say about K/D. It means shit.
-
you do realize you basically stated my point......."The game sees your bad games and put you into easier lobbies so that you can shine once a while. " Your comment ...........its not about you shining, it is about creating a competitive match. That person can still have a bad game tho in a bad lobby.... Yes KD is flawed to the extent that people care about it too much. What really matters is Bungie's algorithm to determine match making. And I have news for you, while the general theory might be out there, the proof and formula behind it will never ever be known.
-
Go ahead and reread my initial post then...because you've stated MY houghts just with different words. The fact is: K/D means shit because of SBMM. Combat Rating is much more of a skill indicator.
-
Yes, and whatever combat rating will never be known. Some websites attempt to reverse engineer it will be flawed. First person shooters have always regarded match making as HIGHLY REGARDED secrets. Take this from a software engineer with some personal experience. Unless you work for bungie, we can only speculate, but as a whole, whatever combat rating is, might be closer to the truth then strickly KD
-
Just look up your Combat Rating, it's in your crucible stats sharr on the website or this app. Your overall skill tier is determined by a combination of CR, KD, WL ratio, etc. Of course we'll never know how it's calculated, but CR is the best indicator for your overall skill imo.
-
Lol you can only play who they match you up against man. It's probably a good feeling for someone who went their whole destiny career below 1.0. Regardless of who they match up against.
-
Still missing the point. K/D means shit. Simple. If you want to measure yourself with others, use Combat Rating.
-
I'm with you. I use combat rating myself. But the point wasn't to measure himself. It's just satisfying to see that you have a positive KD regardless of matchmaking.
-
Yeah okay, it's good for the self esteem to go positive. My statemant was pointed to those players that think K/D means something in terms of skill. And that it is a flawed thought.
-
To some degree every statistic in some way shape or form is flawed. As for a person's kd let's look at it this way. We know how Sbmm works, while someone is rocking a .8 kd they play others close to the same kd of .8. In order to move up to 1.0 they have to do better than the people they play with. As they move up the people they play with skill level moves up with them. Now that OP is at 1.0 let's see if he can maintain that or even push that above 1.0. I too look at combat rating as my play style doesn't really dictate a high kd. I also recently switched from 3 to 4 (after ammo nerf) and found the crucible much more to my liking since I wasn't really a special warrior. And since then my kd on all 3 tools have gone up even more then when I was on 3. I think part of it is that most of the people on 3 are vets that have played the game for a long time they're aren't very many sheep among the wolves there.
-
I was just saying the same thing to a friend of mine about how tough Crucible became on Legacy after it was decided that old gen was being left behind. The only ones still hanging around all seemed like die-hard Crucible vets undeterred with the change. I kind of feel like it's becoming similar on PS4 now, at least since I started playing Rise of Iron in December.
