Another thing to consider: If you think that a popular vote will mean that cities like LA and NYC will determine the outcome of the vote, remember all of the republicans in blue states who don't have a voice in the electoral college. There are millions of Republican votes to be had in California, but are silenced by the electoral college. If Republicans want their voices heard against the big democratic cities, the popular vote would benefit them.

1 ReplyEdited by Kirby235711: 12/28/2016 10:19:22 PM
everyone's vote is equal

the population centers don't determine winners
These two things are basically opposites, when you think about it. Also, people don't realize that electoral votes per state aren't based off of population, but off of population plus 2.

9 RepliesI just went back through as many of your posts as I can. This was never a thing for you before this election. If Hillary had won through the electoral college I wonder if you still would have posted these "posts".

"You're just mad because Hillary lost. Get over it" Nope I've been against it for a while. Here's a post from earlier this year, even when it looked like Republicans were screwed in November. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/200767112?sort=0&page=0&path=1

11 RepliesEdited by Tosevite 187: 12/28/2016 8:18:19 AMI thought the electoral college exists because America was founded as a republic and while the founding fathers strongly believed in self governance, they also acknowledged the fact that the public may not always have perfect information or act rationally thus the electoral college was a fail safe if you will to prevent an 'idiocracy' state. Today it really is just a formality as no one really goes against how they are supposed to vote but it still exists because it was written into the constitution and will be nearly impossible to change. Also there is continually changing incentive as at different times and different districts both major parties benefit. Edit: While I'm rather indifferent regarding the electoral college as that's really the least of the country's issues, it does increase access to candidates for those who would normally be left out and ignored during the campaigning process. If the election were pure popular vote really only major cities would have the opportunity to meet and talk with candidates.

3 RepliesI think it should be by majority vote. You acknowledged one reason by using the map you posted ,but the other reason is voter suppression. In states that are historically republican/democrat and have almost 0% chance of switching stances, there is no purpose for voters to get out. I grew up in an extremely republican state which always averaged 65-70% republican every election and every elected official just needed a R beside their name. My political beliefs align more with democrats. My one vote in a state in which I was vastly outnumbered made me feel like I would just be wasting my time by bubbling in democrats that I knew had a .000001 % chance of winning the statewide vote. If we cast electoral college aside, all votes no matter what you believe in and no matter where you live have the same weight.

19 RepliesYou have no idea what that map even implies. Montana only has 3 electoral votes and that is compared to Cali's 55.

5 RepliesEdited by Mr.Cow: 12/28/2016 4:49:24 AMBut in order to balance out the population doesn't the Electoral votes per person need to be higher is more rural populated places than densely populated places lol. Beside if you look at the scale it's 3x10^-6, in other words 0.000006 electoral votes per person compared to 0.000001 electoral votes in the most densely populated areas lol. The colors in the chart are only there to keep you from realizing that it's really only a tiny fraction of a difference between the two.

5 RepliesWith a popular vote it would be mob rule of the major population center. I'm not looking for another argument since we've been through this before

2 RepliesIf liberal would move out of there echo chamber cities then maybe the popular vote would reflect the electoral college vote better. For example people in the rust belt were more worried about jobs over social justice. If Clinton would of talked about jobs or the economy instead of only talking about how racist and sexist Trump is she might of won. All she did was cry wolf the entire election. She was more concerned with being the first female president then what she would actually do as president.

57 RepliesIf Trump had won the popular vote and Hillary won the Electoral I would still want the electoral college dissolved. You wanna know why? Because it is a dumb/old system designed to take away the freedoms of the people because at the time of its creation the population was too ill informed and voting was too much of a hastle. For God's sake, people had to spend a day to travel to get to the nearest polling location (that's why we vote on Tuesdays). The electoral college has no place in modern voting and just smells of corruption and brainwashing. And all of you dumb Republicans defending the college because we "live in a republic not a democracy" and "you're just a butthurt liberal" need to wake up. So, you're fine with your vote meaning nothing? Your fine with giving all of the power to choose to a select few of the population that don't even have to listen to you? With this past Electoral election we saw just that. One elector from Hawaii voted for Bernie Sanders even though he wasnt supposed to. Thats not fair to the people of Hawaii. What about the Republicans living in blue states? Their votes are worth nothing. Every human being follows majority rules. Everyone knows it's right. Why should a minority govern the majority? We don't live in old aparthied South Africa. You'll say, "well, if you come to America you better speak english. Majority rules." But when it comes to a corrupt voting system that is controlled by people that want to hold power you say, "oh, that's fine. The founding fathers knew what they were doing." More hypocrisy. If the roles were reversed, Republicans would be in the streets rioting that the system was rigged and the electoral college needs to go. So shut up about defending it. You are wrong. It needs to go. Just because a corrupt system helped you win doesn't mean it should stay. And don't use the "oppressive majority" bullcrap. Please. Almost 3 million more people wanted Hillary as president than Trump. But here we are. With a ruler that does not represent a majority of Americans. Also, don't use the "well most of those 3 million were illegals" like your dumb orange god thinks. Please. Voter ID laws are already so strict in this country that that is nearly impossible. If most of the country votes liberal, then we have a liberal government. It makes sense. Why should we be governed by people who don't represent the views of the people? It makes zero sense. And the rest of the world wonder that too. They say, " why do those stupid Americans have a system like that? In my country we vote and that's it." They laugh at us and the fools defending the stupid system. The electoral college is a cancer to this country and needs to be abolished. No liberal bullcrap. It ethically wrong. One person, one vote. If a majority of Americans want someone as their leader then that person should be the leader. End of story.

Max, this is stupid even for you

19 RepliesBoth candidates played the same game. They both were aware that the electoral college votes are the requisite for winning. One was the winner of the game. One is not. The game is over. People who are trying to change the rules after the fact are as annoying as my 2 year old trying to cheat in hi-ho-cherry-o. Get over it.

1 ReplyPeople who say that the electoral college is the ideal method for an elections are people who divide Americans by state. Winning by popular vote is not really the big states deciding which president is going to be for the next for years. The voters are all Americans after all. Also half of the country didn't even vote... I can't see why is that.
