Why is it that every time someone's skill comes into question, the first thing I hear from someone is "Your crucible K/D sucks, so you suck"? Seriously, I heard someone say that to someone else in WotM the other day. Totally unrealated to the current situation.
EDIT: People were missing the point of the second paragraph and it was kind of porly written on my part, so I'm modifying it.
Basically:
There are people who don't really try in PVP that are good at PVE, and there are people who wreck in PVP that can't seem to grasp raids. So don't base your judgements of one on the other.
EDIT 2: Something I forgot to bring to light before despite being the primary reason my own K/D is lower than it ought to be (Thanks to BrassedoffDan for reminding me)-
You can easily get a good K/D by being in the back the whole game. But some of us aren't sissies. Some of us are AGGRESSIVE. We're going to break their lines, grab those crests, cap that Bravo objective, dunk that rift, or just straight up disrupt the enemy by any means necessary, and take down as many enemies as we can in the process! If being that shift in momentum and topping the team comes at the cost of a few more deaths, so be it. Guardians are immortal after all.
EDIT 3: There are three other K/D-affecting things I should mention.
1. Unbalanced teams- you know the games. Where you end up against a full team and your team is getting repeatedy wiped by teamshotting, pack memtality grenade spam, and super chains. One game wouldn't be so bad, but there are days when you need to get something done and you're just getting steamrolled every game. Speaking of which-
2. Bounty/quest grinding- Good example: When you really just want to get the thorn quest over with, mayhem isn't up, and all you have is a shotgun and a few smoke bombs.
3. Just generally not trying all the time- Maybe you are grinding the crucible while watching a funny youtube video snapped. Maybe you like to play drunk every once in a while. Maybe you're too tired to do good, but too awake to go asleep. Plenty more examples, I'm sure.
EDIT:
4. Dropping in mid match on a losing team and getting repeatedly slain by supers and heavy. Thanks Scrubbiest Scrub

3 RepliesEdited by MrMelonized: 11/2/2016 1:55:51 PMKD is a good basis of how good a player is. It shows that a player is able to hold their own. I'm able to play the objective and still get a positive whilst using an NLB and Fusion Rifle. However I would rather have an objective player than a high KD player on my team. However saying that you don't need a decent KD in a match is absolute bogus. If you ain't getting a >1.0KD in a match then you aren't truly pulling your weight. You are actually hindering your team because now someone else in your team has to make up your shortcomings in their own score. You don't always have to engage the first bit of red you see on your radar. If you have low health, you don't have to peek and fight to the death. Playing smart is the way to obtaining a decent KD. I had a match yesterday with players who rushed way too hard. So I found a choke point, set up camp and continuously picked off players. The only thing that killed me was a hammer of sol. Some people will bitch about it but the only points I gave away in that match was 165 points from my one death. That helps my team in securing the lead and hinders the enemy because they need to make up the rest of the points with the rest of the team. This was also Clash so getting a high KD is kinda playing the objective. I've played games of rift were I've camped points with a sniper and peg the enemy off as they leave their spawn area. This meant that they weren't able to get many people to the spark spawn and so made it easier for my team to capture the spark and take it to the enemy rift. Even though I wasn't directly playing the objective, I was helping my other teammates play the objective.

Yummm... strawberries.

K/D is averaged over the life of the character, so 3 year old characters K/D's are going to change very little no matter how much better you get.
-
KD does matter , but only the KD of the actual round youre playing
-
Well if you can kinda tell the player skill by their kd
-
2 RepliesPlaying solo is the number 1 reason for a lower KD. Team shooting is key to winning. A team of randoms that are all in parties with other people (that aren't even on their fire team) will get wrecked by a fire team that is communicating and giving call outs. I've heard 3 people in fire team chat since beta... 3 people. You need to mic up. Do so and your KD will climb.
-
1 ReplyThat's true pvp kd ratio doesn't matter in pve, you can be good at pve and bad at pvp.
-
I agree to a certain extent.
-
1 ReplyKD only matters if it's good, but if it's bad it means nothing, let me explain: If it's high it means a player is probably at least decent and cares alot about PvP. A bad KD doesn't mean anything tho, alot of players mess around, go for bounties, don't care about Crucible, etc. But are still elite and can kick some ass. If youre bothered that a team is asking for a high KD, don't be. Likewise, if you want to talk shit to someone with a bad KD, you shouldn't either.

People who have 2.0 kds and up generally only play with a fireteam and also mainly only play trials. And or recently made a new character . there are occasionally people who are extremely good that have 30 plus crucible days on 1 character and have 4.0 kds . but they are rare and mainly play 3s. Or in teams.

1 ReplyEdited by Combo164: 11/2/2016 8:34:45 AMI remember in the old days where handcannons were OP (cross map two tapping hawkmoon.. may you RIP, two tap burning thorns, glitched last word with 111 ads damage) no aim firebolt burns (bungie make firebolt work exactly like arc bolts. I'm baffled with the extra changes when only VK needed changing...). Traveler forbid if you stated something is OP, people will flock to your stats to see your KD and choose if you're claims are valid. Usually if its low people will claim you have no idea what you're talking about and you're just a noob. Let someone with a higher KD say the same thing and they're the wisest person to have graced the forums with their presence.
-
Sure, it's not the tell all statistic when it comes to gauging skill, but it definitely means something. A 2.0 kd player will shit on a 0.75 kd player 95% of the time. The 2.0's aim, game knowledge, situational awareness, and ability to be evasive and stay alive will be better than the 0.75's. No matter the game mode, you are more helpful to your team if you're alive more than your dead, obviously.

Edited by Seira_Vengeur: 11/2/2016 1:02:10 PMi wouldnt say being in the back is being a sissie but another style of playing. i use a pulse which is absolutely horrid up close but shines at sniper range. and with spawn flips and those aggressive types, im forced to close range a lot more often in which i use my sidearm for those situations. i do this partly cause i suck at snipers and shotguns heh

2 RepliesI've seen people with a high k/d who have been to the lighthouse multiple times so if you wana get there without being carried then it must matter.

4 Replies*play raid* *someone died* Guy 1: dafuq bud? Now we gotta wipe. Thanks, asshole Guy 2: calm down its 1 death Guy 1: you fkn suck Guy 2: wow... right to the insults. What are you, 10? Guy 1: 1v1 me bruh. Ill take you on, scrub Wut. Like, everytime something like this happens, it makes me question those people. What does k/d have to do with a raid?
or, the time i tk'ed my fireteam partner in patrol and he said (i shit you not) "Fkn quit it you asshole. You're fkn up my k/d." ... Wut
1 ReplyEdited by Maverick426h: 11/2/2016 10:33:33 AMI honestly think that fireteams in crucible should be maxed at three. Why are we allowing raid fireteams to gang up on teams of six solo players repeatedly, especially during Iron Banner? It's become a bit of a joke. This is also when your k/d takes a serious hit too and your teammates start bailing on the match left and right (which I refuse to do). You end up fighting that raid team with a couple other strangers because you're not giving up. They wait far too long to call mercy and the raid team pumps up their k/d to absurd levels while the few remaining on the other team get slaughtered. Fix this, Bungie.

Of all posts, why would Cozbro comment here?
-
2 RepliesDoes K/D help to match you to other players? I found that the better I got, the laggier and sweatier the players were. When I play using my friend's same class character, I absolutely tear through the competition and have even beaten my own personal scores on his account because it felt easier to do. It was like giving me nukes and giving me noob lobbies to stomp over. Any thoughts on that?
