Strong Female Leads in Videogames

How about we list some strong female characters from our beloved videogames. First let me clarify a few things. #1.  She has to be clearly defined.  Sorry, but for the purpose of this topic Commander Sheppard and The Sole Survivor of Vault 111 are disqualified. #2.  She doesn't have to actually be the lead protagonist or antagonist, but she has to have enough character development to justify taking on a lead role. Like say in a DLC or Spin-off Title. #3.  She does not have to be physically imposing, though it can help.  The Strength I'm referring to is Strength of Character.  Strong convictions commited to Core Values (good, bad or downright evil) and the fortitude to see them through. So my Pick was Ellie.  Yup, one of the thee Strongest Female leads to ever be featured in a videogame is in fact a 14 year old girl. She is resourceful, resilient, has one of the sweetest revenge kills ever and takes over for the main protagonist when he falls ill.  Also she broke herself free from her captors instead of just waiting to be rescued. So what's your pick for a strong female lead? Side note:  For X-clusives please state your reasons as I am a Pony and will likely not know the character. UPDATE: The list of "good" examples has been removed. There are plenty of Valid entries in the comments below. Too many for me to sort through and some responders are mistaking it for me dismissing thier entry. Read comments for my thoughts. (EDITED) Some questionable entries
Questionable = Some need for debate
Samus Aaron - No Clearly Defined Personality. Apparently she has one in two specific games that I have not played. Being that type of Nintendo IP I have my doubts on how well she's written. But I can't officially say one way or the other. GLaDos - An A.I. so essentially Asexual. Although she is very well written, which is the not so hidden point of my post. It's just hard to put an actual face on her. To be clear GLaDOS is not Caroline. She is a separate entity with a whole new personality. Think Nick Valentine from FO4 FINAL UPDATE: I created this thread after a discussion I had with my m8s where I said that strong leads, male or female, can be traced back to strong writing. In many Games writers are treated like second class citizens. Some devs have elected to completely remove campaigns all together. I think this is a shame really. Now don't get me wrong, different games serve different purposes. I own several MP only games. But if we want stronger more diversified characters we need to support good writing in the industry. Good writing leads to robust multi dimensional characters where strong leads male or female occur naturally instead of feeling forced or contrived. Back on topic I'm actually very impressed with the volume of responses, the engaging thoughtful debates and number of Valid Female entires. Keep the responses coming.
