I'm a sniper, and let me tell you, there is a lot of flinch inflicted by high caliber rounds. There's flinch by getting shot with any gun if your scoped in. If you get domed while your shooting a sniper, you just got outplayed. Slide and shoot, throw grenades before the gunfight. Best way to fight a sniper is to not play the range game with them, push against walls, utilize sitting down to look around corners, and most snipers hardscope all the time anyway. They never check radar, push with a shotty. I understand it can be frustrating to die like OP did in that situation, but if you think snipers doesn't take skill, pick one up yourself and try it. People flood these forums non stop with sniper posts calling for nerfs when in all actuality they've been hit pretty hard already. Learn to snipe or learn to be a rush shotty. Simple as that. No offense kappa. ;)

My only problem I have with snipers is Bungie. Every time I find a counter (like my Lord High Fixer with Sureshot IS, Rangefinder, Rifled Barrel, and Hidden Hand) it gets effing nerfed (rangefinder and hand cannon accuracy). But then again: "This is not the way we meant for you to play OUR game, Guardian."
-
That doesn't mesh with what I've seen. I shouldn't be forced to use NLB just because snipers give me no other option.

Edited by Orpheus49: 7/11/2016 2:50:30 PMThe fact that a sniper forces you to rush them immediately puts you at a disadvantage. It's basically saying "I'm not looking to get into a gun fight with you, I just wanna see who gets the one shot first". There should be more primary weapon play, no questions asked.

Your best weapon is a shotgun.
-
Your best special is a sniper, I sense bias.
-
Edited by Orpheus49: 7/11/2016 2:57:18 PMThat proves how adept I am with them, I have a way with movement, and that tends to be the reason I am very difficult to take down in gunfights. Pulses really reward excellent gunplay and movement since they group shots instead of track a target all the way through
-
I agree. After switching to a fusion rifle I can push a lot easier to get a pretty distant kill compared to shotgun. You just need to stay out of the zones where snipers will obviously be hard scoping at.
-
The problem is this grinds the game to a screeching halt since they will of course watch chokepoints you have to pass through to get kills.
-
Sit and looking takes too long. Dance and look
-
Got outplayed lol. Snipers are a crutch

You are an answered prayer.
but if you think snipers doesn't take skill, pick one up yourself and try it.
I did, it's not that hard. My kd actually went up significantly. Shhhhh
-
the flinch mechanic is inconsistent because when i get shot my scope flys all over the place but i have seen peoples recorded gameplay and their scope shakes a bit but doesn't really move when they are sniping and they don't have unflinching on their snipers so its not even a case of adding flinch its a case of fixing it so that it impacts everyone the same way
-
That depends on how hard your weapons hits, if they shooting at you with a low impact is not going to flinch.
-
i meant to say with the same weapons, specifically the current meta, so mida, doctrine, last word, so the same weapons i'm being hit with don't affect other people as much as they affect me or vice versa since sometimes i have lucky games where my weapons don't move at all when i'm being hit

Edited by Cloud LDN: 7/11/2016 4:18:56 PM
If you get domed while your shooting a sniper, you just got outplayed.
Getting domed in that situation is not being outplayed, study the definition of the word, outplayed. It's something that needs to be addressed. Everyone complained about how shotguns killed from so far yet someone pouring high calibre rounds into a hard aimed sniper can still get killed by a headshot? Ridiculous. Edit: Just checked your stats, you're another biased sniper, how fun.
-
So have you been on the other end of that scenario? If you have then you would know that to land said headshot while taking damage/flinch requires even greater resolve, control and timing by the sniper.
-
Edited by Cloud LDN: 7/11/2016 4:01:42 PMI have been on the other end but greater resolve, control and timing? That is just stupid. It's simply pulling RT and somehow it counts as a headshot. Still needs to be addressed.

Why is it a smart move to challenge snipers like that? Why would anyone try to fight a sniper from long range? You wouldnt. Opening fire on a sniper will cause enough flinch and im an experienced sniper. If you do lose a match to a sniper like that, then its best to change your tactics.

Essentially, this. As for the anti-sniper rifle posts, they really need to stop. Snipers are sitting where they need to be right now, and it's a very balanced place. I do agree that reticle resettle while being shot might be something to look at, but there is a simple truth: if you see a sniper glint ahead of you, you need to either counter-snipe (after breaking line of sight!), approach from a different angle and try to get them off guard, bring in the grenades, flank with more than one person, make them feel unsafe where they are sniping. Or...just don't fight them at all. Fighting a sniper in working range with a primary is going to lose 8-10 times out of 10, and it should. The gun is designed to commit a killing shot to targets at range, mid to long, not gunfight like a primary. If you see the sniper, and you don't 100% know you can kill them in an engagement, call out the location on the mic and -don't -blam!-ing go there!-. Force them to move to a less advantageous location, and then get in their face, with help if possible. Make them regret the choice to camp. But if nothing else, just leave them alone. If the entire battle is getting fought on the other half of the map, all the camping and scoping in the world will avail them nothing. There's only so much special ammo in a game, anyways. And don't do half of the shooter's work for them. Ever come around a corner or through a door at a walk or run? Congratulations, you just bought a headshot. The only question is if there is someone there to sell it to you. Jump, slide, garrison, charge, s'step, whatever, but if your head is at normal head level, all they have to do is strafe and pull a trigger. It's easy to do, and it's easy to avoid. And for crying out loud, if you see their scope, they see you. They need one shot on target to win, you need 4-6...don't play those odds, they are terrible. The bottom line is: if snipers are killing you, just don't fight them. There are plenty of other people to kill. I realize what people are saying, that they don't feel like primaries have a chance against special weapons. It's not true, but if will feel like it if you are playing a) to the strengths of the special weapon and b) allowing the special user to dictate the rules of the engagement. If you take away those advantages, the weapons just aren't 'special' anymore, because you have taken them out of the special circumstances that they dominate in. I know it's a bitter pill to swallow, but I had to do it with Doctrine; by challenging them in the way they want you to, you are handing them kills. Watch some True Vanguard vids where he discusses staying alive and countering snipers, it helps, and it will change this situation around for you.

Snipers are broken... 167 or 181 damage on a high impact sniper body shot is insane...it was fine b4 primary weapons damage, range, accuracy, ammo, and perks got nerfed hard...now u pretty much can't challenge a sniper w a primary weapon...the ttk, little flinch, range, and ammo in a clip gives so much more time to react... Primary weapons do less damage so it takes more bullets to kill...on top of that ammo in clip was nerfed...so pretty much after each kill u have to reload or take cover...this is tough when pushing to kill a sniper cause even if u kill him u are so vulnerable... Radar n map design also make it hard to flank n kill snipers... The best primary weapons in game are fast firing low impact weapons so the flinch isn't much at all...if u use a high impact primary weapon u will see how bad they are... handcannons got a bit better but they still need work... high impact scouts (really all primary) against a sniper don't really stand a chance cause they shoot about same rof as snipers...and a sniper does 167 a body shot... a double body shot or body shot-switch to primary-one bullet dead combo has the fastest ttk in game and no gun can outgun that... High impact autos and pulses vs a sniper...rip...

Edited by Technohydra: 7/11/2016 5:39:59 PMTo be fair, high impact pulses are in a bad place in general right now. Needing the same number of shots to kill, but firing them slower means Hawksaw out-performs them often. As for fast firing weapons being best...Hawkmoon type hand cannons are devastating if used well, Jade Rabbit is a brutal gun if you have learned how to handle it, Badger and Not Like the Others, as well as the Hung Jury are really solid choices as well. I honestly think that the heavier hitting weapons, with the exception of Doctrine, are the best for a -skilled- hand (how you judge skill is another question all together, and I'm not qualified to comment on it). The trade-off is, they are harder to learn, use, and be consistent with. There is a reason why many of the highest tier players use hand cannons, instead of other things.

Snipers begin at long range, holding the advantage. Unloading a mag of assault rifle point blank into their face should at last So to counter this I'm restricted to using NLB, which is itself a sniper rifle, if I want my primary weapon to work. Not exactly a fantastic array of options.
-
Shotgun if you want the first shot to be guaranteed. I usually finish them with my primary or weaken and get them with my grenade or melee. As long as you know how to close a gap between you and a sniper, there shouldn't really be a problem here.
-
Shotgun isn't a primary. I'm talking about close to mid range options. Shotguns are point blank only and that's what shoulder charge is for.
