I just want to come back and say that it's obvious from your edit that you've actually thought about it and seem to have learned from the situation.
Good on ya.

The only thing to learn from this is that no matter how reasonable you are there will always be someone of lesser intelligence who will get offended, words are free no matter which ones they are. You realize that someone else is getting to decide what he calls himself right? That is the offense, anyone should be able to call themselves whatever they want. My name starts whith Tactile, meaning the sensation you get when you touch something. I don't find it offensive but hey what if someone realizes that things you touch could also mean boobs! if they want to draw connections thats up to them but don't impose your views on me...
-
No. His name was obviously--and he admits--meant to evoke the obscenity. If someone reported your name using the ridiculous justification you made up, it would go anywhere, since it's clear your name doesn't violate anyone's terms of service. Obscene or racist or abusive GTs have no place in gaming.
-
Obscene gamertags have no place in gaming? What world do you live in? Disney's Magic Kingdom?
-
The one where I read the terms of service and realize how society works. If you think that's either appropriate or funny, it's you with the issue.
-
Actually society runs on the 1st Amendment. In the US it does anyway, and that's where I'm from. So if someone wants to have an obscene or offensive gamertag they should be allowed to. Especially if their GT is neither obscene or offensive, but making a societal joke. Your argument is that someone whose Tag is HolyHeck should be banned because they used the word Heck instead of Hell. And I'm not suggesting I would necessarily agree with said offensive Tag. Only that it is a person's right to express themselves freely.
-
You clearly don't have a clue how the constitution works, dude. The First Amendment applies to government restricting speech. Period. And even then it's not carte blanche. It's important to know what you're talking about if you want to argue.
-
But if you change one letter it is not the word anymore, thats like being ticketed for speeding even though you weren't speeding and the officer says, " yeah but this is a really fast sports car you are driving and I could tell you 'meant' to be going fast" .
-
That doesn't even make sense. You really think PhukU is an acceptable GT just because the spelling is unconventional? Are you 12?
-
No I am 34. PhukU is a totally acceptable name, how would anyone have any idea what that means unless they already know what f**k you means? And if they are already so intimately familiar with the term what is wrong with them seeing it?
-
Well, it's a good thing you're not in charge, because that's just stupid. Knowing what it means doesn't make it appropriate behavior. The important thing, luckily, isn't your completely inappropriate sense of what should or shouldn't be allowed, but rather the terms of service, which were clearly violated.
-
What if his name was "what the frack". Very obvious what he is intending but at the same time battle start galactica uses the term frack on daytime television. Please explain the huge difference between frack and fook
-
Take it up with the console.
-
I will totally agree that racist comments are offensive and should not be joked about at all even with different spelling, they have cruel histories and malicious intent. While his gt was cheeky, I truly don't believe he had cruel or malicious intentions when picking out his name. If we close our minds to words and ideas, nobody wins.
-
Yeah, obscenities are so, so socially important. Jeebus, if you don't like it, write a passionate letter to Sony and Microsoft laying out why you think obscene GTs are just fine, and I'm sure they'll see the light and change their policies right away.
-
I already got you with the whole frack/fook thing bud, until you explain the difference you have nothing new to add. We get it, your mind is closed and you are happy in your world. You might notice that no one else wants to join you there
-
What exactly do you think you're debating? You're like a little kid whose mom tells him he can't go in the water at the beach, and then spends the rest of the day seeing what he can get away with. Get over it and move on.
-
I am arguing about the views our society has towards certain words and the spelling of those words, I even conceded to your point that mispelling racist words would not be appropriate. You are arguing that anything that even sounds like it might be offensive, is absolutely offensive. I don't agree with that and if I sat here silently saying nothing then I would be helping to keep these silly rules in place. I think that in a place where we can shoot hundreds of people a day, blow their heads up, cut them to pieces, and defend the universe from invasion maybe we shouldn't worry about a word that doesn't even exist in any dictionary

You go, SJW.
