Brazillian is NOT a language

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL WITH PROPER ATTENTION, SKIP TO EDIT (DAY 2), TO GET A SUMMARY [OP] Received an email from Bungie with the header in the attached picture. Now, can you please explain to me why you show a Spanish flag for Spanish, but then show a Brazillian flag for Portuguese? This is an utter disrespect for Portugal and our language heritage. If the situation were reversed, you would also show a British flag for English, instead of an American one. Just the same way that I bet there are more Spanish speaking Latinos than actual Spanish people, the fact that there are more Brazilians than Portuguese, doesn't justify switching the banners. It's an essential thing of respecting a culture and a country. If the subject of simple respect is not enough for you to use the correct flag, please do it for knowledge reasons, since it shows a lack of the world and cultural understanding, something that a company with a global reach like yours, should be well aware of. Thanks. EDIT: As I replied to a Guardian just now, this is NOT a hate towards Brazil in any way. I have the utmost respect for Brazillian people. This is a heads-up to Bungie in asking they respect a country and its cultural heritage. EDIT (day 2): Was under a lot of stress, and without the morning cigarette when I wrote the post. So it does indeed seem like I'm super offended by it. I know it's not the end of the world or anything, it would be just a minor gesture from Bungie, and coherent with the other flags being shown, but not something that will make me drop a bomb on Bungie HQ or even getting warmed up about it. No need to start your guns, Mr. Keyboard Commandos. If you're in need of relieving stress, go have a walk or do some sport, which is what I should've done yesterday. Also, although I appreciate the support my portuguese fellows gave this, I have to tell you, we really need to stop thinking that the world owes us respect because we were a world power so long ago (have seen this argument over and over again in the comments). It's totally irrelevant now days, and until we put this old glory to rest, I don't think Portugal will ever move on. If we deserve respect, it's purely because we are people and have an identity, and part of that identity is our language. Nothing else. People deserve respect regardless of where we're from, our colour, our hobbies, our sexuality, etc. People deserve respect, period. If you don't respect people based on the fact that they are humans, then you're just a c*nt, and should die shafted by an Yeti (lol). Although I can now tell you that I'm not offended, I haven't deleted or rewrite the post because it has been interesting to hear some opinions (and make fun of the rude trolls), and even learning a couple of things. Unfortunately, most of you didn't even made an effort to put yourselves in our position, and just assumed we are super sensitive. Let me tell you a story. I also used to think like that; once I even commented to a gay friend that I didn't understand why they got so upset about gay jokes. And she said, "It's not your place to dismiss the fact we're offended if you never went through the same thing". In the past, I also didn't see what the fuss was all about with immigrants. Until the day I became an immigrant myself, treated differently, and even had my wife and friends being victims of racist attacks. Trust me on this; it changes your whole perspective. It's not the same thing, or even near, the topic of this post, I know, but serves to illustrate that you shouldn't be so dismissive when a minority feels offended. Try to go through the same experience, and don't be a c*nt. Or you'll get shafted by a Yeti... With AIDS. Anyway, it's weekend, go shoot some dregs!

 • No disrespect, but you have to realize that context is everything. In the New World, very few people would be able to recognize the Portuguese flag if you showed it to them. Whereas most people will recognize Brazil. Brazil is the largest, most powerful nation in THIS part of the world that speaks Portuguese. Its the same reason that people show an American flag when representing English as a spoken language in this part of the world, instead of the UKs Union Jack, or Canada's Maple Leaf. Anyone who is educated enough to know that Portuguese is spoken by Brazil is going to also know that country's linguistic and cultural ties to Portugal. But you also need to realize that your nations roots are not as deep in this part of the world as they are in other places....and nowhere near as deep as those of Spain.
