People keep acting as if being an MMORPG based game gives it an excuse for overall lack of content and sometimes shoddy shooter mechanics. I'm sure the gameplay itself is spectacular, being a strategic third person shooter. And it certainly looks great. But that is no excuse for the lack of content and the overall lack of depth and balance in the shooter aspect of the game. Your weapons don't feel effective, and while that may be true in some RPGs, that is really only in end-game content. For example, in Guild Wars, it doesn't take an extreme amount of effort for me to take down a regular enemy. It is understandable if they have been established as a tougher enemy type, but not if they are common fodder. As a closer shooter comparison, the mechanics work in such a way that tougher enemies are indeed harder to take down, but don't take a disproportionate amount of time to kill.

It's a slow burn. There are too many mechanics to learn at the start. Once you get going tho...

8 RepliesI shot some rats in The Division and got xp.. Your move Bungie..
-
1 ReplyI didn't buy it at launch, I learned that lesson with Destiny. My concern isn't with the gameplay, it's the amount of content that is provided at launch.
-
Playing with friends is what makes it really fun
-
2 RepliesI remember when I was flamed for proposing that The Division might end up like Titanfall. Oh how the tables have turned.
-
4 RepliesYou knew what you were getting youeselves into. Its an online covered based, 3rd person shooter RPG. You knew that from the start. If i didnt like first person shooters, would i buy the next Battlefield, and then complain about it??

16 RepliesThe "gameplay" never is going to grab you in the same way. Destiny is a FPS with a little bit of MMO-and-RPG sprinkled on top. So much so that Bungie seems resistant to the idea of building upon the RPG nature of the game. The Division is full-blown Action-RPG...that just happens to have cover-based, TPS mechanics. Destiny is very fast-paced, initimate, and twitchy in its play. You get to run around and be a space-magic throwing superhero. The Division has you as a spec-op soldier in an urban war zone. Where you have to slowly and carefuly pick your way through firefights. Firefights where (as learned with I died during boss fight of the frickin' TUTORIAL mission) just one mistake can leave your character dead on the ground (had a propane tank blow up in my face). If you're looking for a game to match the shooter mechanics of Destiny...you're barking up the wrong tree. What makes The Division so attractive to many people is that it is rare to get an ARPG/RPG that is THIS deep...that has game play mechanics that are this fun to play. IOW, The Division is the RPG that many of wished Destiny had been allowed to become.

Yeah kinda the same. Didn't play beta, but preordered because mates wanted to play. Only lv7 but not really sure if I like it. Game starts off by showing you that someone has put a virus on money, giving people smallpox. That's not a bad start. But then this just seems to make the area just become under Marshall law? Not sure where the game is going yet, but it's nice to play something new

6 RepliesEdited by A Stormy Dio: 3/9/2016 8:01:32 PMWhen I played the Beta, Division had some of the same problems as Vanilla Destiny (same weapon, only difference is its a higher level, High-Ends aren't as unique as in Destiny, and the space is about the same as 2 of Destiny's locations..(such as the patrols on the Moon and Earth sized)... ) the rogue system was idiotic, as shooting one pellet as a person can wind you dead, and others...
Despite that though, it was ok; Not as good as Destiny, though.

Edit: The Rogue System has recently been updated, and I hope it is for the better.
Don't understand why people think the AI sucks. In my opinion it's relatively good. It's better than the AI in most other games I've played.
-
1 ReplyAI hiding behind cover gets startled when you rush up on them with a shotty or sidearm. I should have recorded it tonight, probably have more chances to capture the AI jumping back looking all dumbfounded as time passes. AI in the Division seems very intelligent compare to what we are used to with Destiny. It's takes hell of a lot more bullets to kill normal AI than I am accustomed to but it is starting to grow on me. Can't wait to run the DZ with the boys in a four men fire team this weekend. It's going down, gotta do this weeks hm challenges on Destiny also.

10 RepliesPeople who enjoy the Division fail to realize that it's pretty much on a lesser level than Destiny. The AI is bad. On PC, the game runs like literal shit and it's still a bug-infested cesspool as much as any other Ubisoft game. The missions are all pretty much the same as Destiny as well - except Destiny has WAY less bullet sponges, and it has many more ways to counter a bullet sponge, plus the gameplay variety is much, much larger. The Division is not a tactical shooter. At all. In any sense. People who think so are absolutely naive. lolol

The enemies take more than two bullets to kill and the AI is far more intelligent and aggressive. I doubt many destiny players could even complete the hospital mission on hard let alone when the real endgame stuff comes along. Most players just like standing out in the open at long range with a scout rifle killing thrall and dregs. Not challenging in the slightest. Ive been playing most the day and there is tons of stuff to do and im still only lvl 8. By now i would have completed the entire story and raids in destiny as i did it not so long ago.

Well if you like shooting enemies then there is no better game than destiny. Bungie is the greates when it comes to FPS shooters in that sense. The part where destiny fails mega hard is content and lying about how big and in depth the game was going to be
-
The Division isn't a revolutionary game. There won't be one of those for a while. But it does do a lot of things right. The AI pushes your position actively, weapon types have their own specific strengths and weaknesses and the game runs good on mid-high range hardware. Overall, The Division is quite the competent ARPG experience. And one of the best game to come from Ubisoft for 5 years.
-
Its alittle clunky
-
Were you playing solo? My buddy and I played 15 hours today and enjoyed all of it.
-
To me destiny is a much more action oriented game where the division is more of and rpg with casual action and exploring. At least that was my impression from the beta.
-
If you try the hard mode for a mission that you are minimum level for its pretty rough.
-
I'm not. It's looks cool I admit, but it's nothing too special IMO.
-
28 RepliesBought the gold edition, redeemed all the codes played to the rooftop mission and now wish I hadn't bought it. Enemies are just cheap bullet sponges.
-
Did you not play the open beta?
-
1 ReplyIt is a RPG tactical shooter. Game play is tons of fun and a huge map to muck about in. Really shouldn't be compared to Destiny. Apples to Oranges...
-
1 ReplyI'm not impressed because I can't even -blam!-ing join Who's idea was it to make that damn console 1 person only?
